when i was seventeen i got my ears pierced. i went to the local mall and walked up to the shop and said, "i'd like my ears pierced." she said to me..."the right or the left?" i said "both." i had to sit there for abt fifteen minutes and explain why i, being a boy, would want both of my ears pierced. finally she did it. i was as happy as i had been for quite some time. now i realize there are some of you that will say, "what a poseur...he got his ears done at claire's...i can't believe that shit." please, if you have that attitude, understand this...i lived in redneck-kkk-hick land at the time...our town didn't even have mtv...and the internet??? forget it. also...this was in 1994. i'm sure there were plenty of people with ampallangs at this time, but when was i gonna see that shit??? the answer is...when i got older. when i graduated high school...my family moved to Dela-where...the first state. i picked up a cd that year...Marilyn Manson: Portrait of an american family. i liked it so i started looking out for pic of the band, you know...see what they looked like. Man, this manson guy was like nothing i'd ever seen...i noticed something abt him...he had his lip pierced. So there you have it...Marilyn Manson was the first person i had seen with a body piercing, except that punk kid in "the lost boys" with his septum done. i decided i wanted to be involved in this kind of thing, so started buying magazines, reading abt this "new obsession that was sweeping the nation", and wishing i could be a part of it. i finally decided i was gonna get pierced. i picked my lip, right side cos at the time i figured it would look the best on me, rather than an eyebrow or a bridge. i bought the supplies, read some books, asked for advice and did it myself. it was great...putting the ring through, and putting the bead in...looking at myself in the mirror for the first time, thinking...this is what i've always wanted...something that made me feel complete. from that moment on...i was hooked.
