(b. Björk Gudmundsdóttir, 21 October 1966, Reykjavic,
Iceland)
Björk has been a part of the Icelandic music scene since she
made an album at age 11. In the early 80's she sung for the band
Tappi Takarrass and recorded two more albums with them.
She found success when she joined the Sugarcubes in June 1986
with Bragi Olaffson, Einar Orn Benediktsson, Margret
Ornolfsdottir, Sigtryggur Balduresson and Thor Eldon, Björk's
former husband and the father of her son, Sindri. She appears on
their first album, "Life's Too Good", which earned them
fame in the UK.
Björk went solo in 1993 with the release of "Debut".
Her second solo album, and my favorite, "Post" was
released in 1995, and made number 2 in the British charts.
"Telegram", released in 1996 consists of re-mixes of
the tracks on "Post" and one new song. Her latest, "Homogenic",
was released 23 September, 1997.
Her songs are comprised of techno dance beats
and whimsical lyrics and Björk's interesting vocal style. She
has a wonderfull voice, and despite being small, she can sure
surprise with a good loud scream now and then. I like her music
because it is always fun!
