THE INTERVIEW
I think I should point out that this interview took place early March 1998 and between then and whatever the point of time it is now when you're reading this, the band may have changed opinions or view and all situations may have changed.
Is this you first demo? Was it done in the studio or on a machine?
Yeah, this was our first demo and it was recorded in a studio and was co produced by us and Vince Butero, he's a really cool guy, its his own studio called Dogma House Recording, it was great, 4 straight days of getting drunk and playing music.
As individuals, what are your main influences?
Telmo is influenced by hip hop, Incubus, Deftones and Sepultura. Kevin is influenced by Korn, Sepultura Machine Head and Wu Tang and System of a Down. Joe is influenced by Stuck Mojo and Machine Head. Nelson is influenced by Metallica, Pantera, Rage and bob marley and BB is influenced by Igor Cavalera and David Silveria. As you see we all have different influences.
What's the biggest headlining show you have played so far? What the biggest show you've played (headlining or not)?
Probrably the show coming up with Salmon, System of a Down, Deftones and Papa Roach in April, but the Insolence/Dredge show was our best so far. The place was packed and the crowd was goin crazy.
Robb Flynn is a big fan, I hear. Do you have any more famous fans?
Well Beno the manager for System (of a Down) has told me he really liked us, but I can't think of many others right now, others do [like us] but they don't really come to mind.
Have you had any record label interest so far?
Yeah, we've been getting scouted, no offers yet, but there has been some interest, we really haven't been out long enough to get lots of serious attention, were still in the early stages, but everything will happen once we play a couple more shows, and get our CD out.
What would do you think would be a good record label to be signed to?
We would love to get signed by Immortal or Roadrunner those are great labels, they have great bands and they promote them really well.
Any plans to tackle Europe and/or the rest of the world? If so, when?
We'd love to play Europe in late '99 early 2000, we cant wait.
Nor can I!
When you get round to doing the album, will you use additional musicians and/or special guests?
Possibly a DJ or percussionist.
Are the songs written from personal experience?
Lyric wise they are all really personal and come from personal experience. Special mentions would have to be 'Puta, Suja, Whore', 'Fake', 'Deny Me' and 'Falling Through'.
If I HAD to pigeonhole you (which is something I hate doing, because it gives people the wrong idea), I'd say you sound like a thrashier version of Korn with Sevendust and (a smidge of) System of a Down mixed in. What would you say?
I guess that could be said, all three of these bands our influenced of us, and were honoured to be compared to them.
What gear do you use?
Kevin uses Ibanez 7 strings, Jackson ps-4. Peavey 5150, marshall cabs and Digitech rp-6 effects processor. Joe uses Ibanez and Jackson guitars, Crate Blue Voodoo and Marshall cabs, Digitech rp 10. Nelson plays Ibanez basses, uses swr bass heads and ampeg cabinets. BB uses Pearl Export, and Zildjian ZB Plusses.
POINTLESS AND TRIVIAL (but fun):
Describe each other in five words...
We can describe ourselves as studio, beer, cannabis, women, loud (and more beer).
Coal Chamber vs Deftones. Discuss. And is Korn past it?
They are both great, two of our favorites. We havent korn's new stuff but old stuff is great, they completely changed metal forever.
Sepultura: Fucked without Max?
Hell no, we think it will be very original and we are looking forward to hearing it more than Soulfly. Soulfly isn't to original it is a Roots ripoff.
Speaking of which... Soulfly: Roots throwbacks?
Yup, what is Max thinking?? He is one of our idols and a great musician (we love him) but he said it would be completely different from Sepultura, and he lied (damn right, I remember an interview with him saying he wanted a hip-hop feel. I don't feel it) and talked all kinds of mad shit about the rest of Sepultura, but good luck to him cus Soulfly is good, and he is a god.
Who will be the biggest underground metal band in 3 years time? Answers other than 'Down2None' are prefered.
We're not sure about this one but we'd have to say it would be Juice.
Who will win the FIFA World Cup? (Soccer to you, football to me).
France is strong they're gonna surprise, Brasil will be upset.
What do you know about UK metal (not that anyone in the UK knows anything!)?
We've heard of lots of great bands like Pitchshifter, Pulkas and One Minute Silence.
Does ALL Dance music suck?
Nope, lots of its hella cool, especially European/English-Techno-Jungle.
Cheers for you time, lads
