Baked Potato - North Hollywood, California, United States

by Mario on May 1, 1997

The show last night went very well. They started at around 9:40 pm. Andy played with Jerry (I forgot to get his last name) and a drummer whom I have never seen before but was nevertheless brilliant. They started with this blues song. Afterwards Andy started with his usual jokes. They wen into World Gone Strange and another song from the album. They played a Coltrane song and another called Afro Blues or as Andy called it Blue Afro. They played other jazz pieces and then the set ended. The place was packed with people who were talking to Andy. My friend who is a guitarist was asking Andy about the music business.

Finally after I kicked my friend away I talked to him. Very nice funny gentleman. I told him I was from N Hollywood and during the show he was making fun of how hot it was today in N Hollywood. Finally I asked him questions I promised to ask for the people from this wonderful mailing list.

He was on an online chatline a month ago in New York where he was playing but it will be a while until the next. Andy will be playing here for one more week and then he will take a break. He is not gooing to Europe until the fall when they have festivals over there. He is releasing an album in the fall. He asked how I was and sensing that he was in a good mood asked him "the question". Andy said if the Police will reunite it will have to happen soon. Sting and Stewart are getting along better now but Andy says it is ultimately up to Sting. He loves playing in the clubs. Shea Stadium was nice but he prefers smaller places now. I told him many people would give their "arms and legs" as one fan told me but he said we will see.

Jerry is a really nice guy. He lives about 5 miles from me and I have seen him before in two stores. He enjoys playing with Andy and he will let me know when they will be playing again. At this point Andy went to mingle with other people so I was happy. I should have brought my camera but thinking I couldn't take pictures I didn't. They started the 2nd set and then Andy said a joke about Jerry's bass (six string) how it made out of 10,000 matchsticks and it sounded like shit but he was joking. The rest of the set ws great, waved goodbye and left with a smile. I hope I gave as much detail as I could. If I left anything out or want to know some more please email me.

Jerry's last name is Watts. The drummer is Bernie Dressel; he usually plays with the Brian Setzer orchestra. And yes everyone, the show was great. This was my eighth! I can only believe I did something really honorable in my last life, to be able to see Andy on a weekly basis these days, in this one. The downside, is being this near him, this often, is causing my brain to slowly die. Overload you know.
