Boston Gardens - Boston, Massachusetts, United States

by Brian Baker on February 26, 1991

I've seen Sting in concert twice. Both times were on his ...Nothing Like the Sun tour.

The first time (at Boston Garden), he was incredible. It is so cool to hear 20,000 people whispering the lyrics to Message in a Bottle.

If you've heard his acoustic versions of Message, you get a slight idea of what I'm talking about. But it is a shallow comparison with being there and actually experiencing it. He changed the lyrics of Englishman in New York from "See me walking down 5th avenue" to "See me walking down the Combat Zone".It was hilarious. He complained about how Americans make tea and about how he wanted the Red Sox to win the World Series against the Mets.

The second time was on the last branch of the tour. I caught him in Mansfield, Mass at Great Woods. He seemed very tired from the touring. He played neither Roxanne or Message in a Bottle and came back for only one encore (He came back for *3* the first time).

I'm catching him early in the tour in Worcerster, Mass on March 9th [1991], so I'm looking forward to another great concert. (It's going to be difficult to beat the David Bowie concert I saw over the summer, though).
