Hi everybody in the list!!!

Just my little thoughts about saturday's night gig....first of all I couldn't enjoy the show 100% but that was just a problem of mine (a TERRIBLE HEADACHE!!!...aww, my head was exploding, but hey I wouldn't have missed the show for anything!!)

But let's see...I must tell you that I've seen lots of better concerts by Sting, and that's why...

I agree completely with the opinion of Martin Nickel about the Korbach show...the sound was really poor...Vinnie's drumkit was really low (apart of the bassdrum who was really high)...and even the bass wasn't clear at all.

I was a bit disapponted by the set list too...Ok, I didn't expect to hear "Strange Fruit" performed just by bass and voice, but the songs chosen were...hmmm...predictable? Will you pass me this one?? The songs were just the same of Korbach. Boys, aren't you bored as I feel by the medley "Bring on the night-when the world ..."?? Come on...he's been playing this medley for 10 years!!! We all know he's got LOTS of other song to paste together and make special! Please Sting...change songs!!

The Van Morrrison concert , despite other people's opinion (they told me he was great), for me was definetely BORING ...and it was 1 hour and a half!!! awwww ...He played from 21.00 to 22.30 , so Sting started off just at 23.00!!!!! (I guess most of the audience was tired too at the moment).

The performance of Sting and his band wasn't really brilliant...I agree with the fact they haven't reharsed that much (some songs' arrangements seemed a bit confused)...and the trombone's role was not so defined...

Now, just a few curiosities:

Before the concert started, the crew was changing the drumkit etc. etc...they passed "on the air" three songs: the first was "Papa don't preach" by Madonna!!! Aaaarrrgghh!! People started to whistle hard!!! The second one was...listen carefully..."TEMPTED"!!! by Squeeze!!! Cool!!! The third...er...I didn't recognize it...

During the concert, here's a few gaffes by Sting... after the 3rd song, he forgot to introduce Kenny Kirkland!!! Instead he started with "I Was Brought..." --- then, during Kenny's solo, strangely Sting ran away from him, exactly at the other side of the stage. So I thought, "maybe they've had an argument??"...but in the end Sting introduced Kenny, if you want to know. So...I guess that was just Sting forgettin' it...

About forgettin...He didn't sing the verse "Seven days will quickly go", because he sang "Sunday'll be too late" (the one with the Louis Armstrong-like voice) two measures LATER!!!

In the first row of the audience, there was a group of die-hard fans of Sting with a Black T-shirt with yellow stripes (I wonder if my friend Monica was one of them??)...well, you must know that the security men never allowed these fans near the stage, so the fans were bound to stay about 5 metres from the stage, seated.

So here's my final opinion...it wasn't a bad concert after all (a Sting concert can never be bad for a fan of this list, I guess) but I've really seen much better...just as Martin & Sandra said: "It can only get better".

Well...I've never written this much in my entire life (neither at school, hehe), so I'll stop it here. Sorry if I've bored you or if my english; sometimes fails me...I hope you understood everything....

Feel free to ask anything about the concert, I'll answer with pleasure...

I am just back at work after 10 days holidays and I'd like to add my comments on the two gigs, Verona and Assisi, I attended recently. I will not go deep into details on the very concerts, first because I am not a musician and I cannot give technical opinions, second because you have already read Andrea's comments about Verona and those of Martin and Sandra on Korbach and on many things I agree with them .

I do agree it was a pity the set list was shortened: I really missed Hounds of winter, and the acoustic version of You still touch me, or I'm so happy with people picked up for singing.

But let's start from the beginning - Verona, Saturday, June 21:

About the audience, well, the Arena was full, about 12.000 people, too calm for me and Sting was too *cold* if we can say so: I mean he was there to play his songs, few words to thank the audience, but no emotions, no feelings, just ordinary routine. The place was elegant, Verona is an important place for music and the approach of the audience towards the artist is that of great respect but a *polite* respect. I do not mean that obsessed fans are not polite, but surely we cannot listen to his music without singing, clapping hands, jumping, dancing or getting involved anyway in the music. We are not at the cinema, staring a movie, or ?

Van Morrison: although he is not so famous in Italy, he had some audience (especially foreign people) there for him. The music was amusing, but the man himself is not so friendly: he did not greet the audience, nor did he say anything during the whole concert (one hour and a half..) Even when we met him in front of the hotel (actually we where there waiting for Sting...) and we greeted him, he completely ignored us. Strange man...

Walking in Verona, early in the afternoon, we met Kenny and Butch, and stop few minutes just to express them our compliments and took some photos. Nice, as usual.

Sting: some of us (lucky Guido, Walter, Lydia, Barbara and others) had the chance to meet him at the airport and could speak few minutes with him, had their things signed, took some photos. I really envied them. In the afternoon, we all waited for him in front of the hotel, we touched him (sorry, but it is still a strong emotion for me to be in front of him, to shake hands), took some photos: he was very kind, calm, smiled and greeted. After the show some of us went to the restaurant, and even waited in front of the hotel: Sting went back there at 3 o' clock and was in such a good mood that joked with Barbara who was telling him off for coming back so late.

Ya, Andrea, I was one of those die-hard fans, who left their 90.000 LIT worth numbered places (about 58 US Dollars) to sit on the floor, 5 meters from the stage. (But where were you ?) We had second raw seats, but in the first raw there was the cream of the crop of Verona, snobbish people who were there just to show off. (I guess if they ever heard some of the songs...), and beyond us, calm people too. So we just sat on the floor as near the stage as we could go, but had hard times with security men: we couldn't really move, nor stand on our feet: at the end of the concert we were so angry with them that some of us really argued with them.

Lydia's idea of the T-shirt was really nice: we wore black T-shirts with yellow stripes : we were about 14 people. The local TV noticed it and Lydia, Guido and Barbara have been interviewed at the end of the concert.

So, in conclusion, a good gig just because it was Sting playing, and most of all, because we were a big group and enjoyed staying together, spending the waiting hours together. Otherwise, it would have been just another gig.

Peace and Sting forever
