I went to the Sting show at the Concord Pavilion last night. I saw in the front row, but in the obstructed view area which meant I spent the whole time standing and could only see Vinnie Colaiuta's head if I stood on my tiptoes. I had never been to this venue before. It's relatively small (capacity 8,000) and the seats wrap around about 75% of the round stage area, so the artist achieves an intimacy with the audience without having to try too hard.
The show wasn't as good musically or audience-wise as the one at Shoreline Amphitheater on Saturday. Sting's voice got worse again. In fact, he gave himself a break and let the audience sing most of Roxanne alone. He also didn't sing "Walking on the Moon" or "Message in a Bottle." Still, it was a blast to be so close.
