Houston says it was her clumsiness that caused a deep cut on the singer's face while yachting in the Mediterranean with her husband Bobby Brown. Through her publicist, Lois Smith, Houston told the "New York Daily News," "I feel like a klutz."
Police were prompted to investigate the injury after receiving conflicting accounts as to how the injury happened. According to "Wall of Sound," Police said Houston told doctors on the island that she cut her face swimming after falling on some rocks. A crew member told a different story, saying the injury occurred while Houston was still on the boat. Houston's publicist said Tuesday the accident did actually happen on the yacht.
Smith says, "They were having lunch, and she slipped in the dining room... She thinks she cut herself on a dinner plate that broke when she was trying to break her fall. [Houston] said, 'It was a dumb thing.'"
Houston has denied reports suggesting her husband, Bobby Brown, may have caused the injuries. "Believe me, he wouldn't be there if he did," Houston said.

Rachel (WhitneyFan.Com) reports that the October 5th performance is "Classic Whitney" and the Greatest Hits will come out then, also to be titled "Classic Whitney". Arista reports so but we all know how they rarely tell the truth.
I don't know how Janet Jackson could beat Whitney out for the Dorothy Dandridge role, because Whitney owns the rights! The only way JJ would get the role is if Whitney didn't want it. After Whitney got the rights (which JJ was dying for) the press said JJ might try to do a movie based on a 1970s Dandridge biography. I heard also that Halle Berry wanted the role, but that she'll do an HBO version instead. [Don't these alternatives sound tacky compared to Whitney?! : ) ] I hope Whitney doesn't cast anyone else, and that they start preparing a script soon, so these other people don't put their lousy versions out first and over-expose the story.

Whitney is the executive producer of the movie. She was not been rejected it is her decision who would play the role. Remember she owns the right s to the book.

Soul diva WHITNEY HOUSTON surprised producers by failing to turn up for the preview of her update of the classic CINDERELLA. The I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU singer has been involved with every last decision on the film - in her role as one of the executive producers. But for once, Houston has washed her hands of responsibility. Insiders speculate that it may have something to do with her mysterious cut received while she holidayed with husband BOBBY BROWN on the paradise island of Capri.
From Cybersleaze
Singing superstar WHITNEY HOUSTON has left the Mediterranean island of CAPRI after doctors stitched up a deep cut in her face. The chart-topper flew off in a helicopter with her husband, bad boy BOBBY BROWN and her brother and his wife after attending hospital for emergency treatment on the two-inch gash on her left cheek. Houston booked in to the exclusive EUROPA PALACE hotel after she was injured while touring the Mediterranean on a 120-foot yacht. The celebrity party then fled the small enclave by helicopter to an unknown destination. Italian police said conflicting accounts of how Houston was cut prompted them to investigate. Houston told doctors she hurt herself by hitting a rock while swimming, but a member of the yacht's crew reported she was cut while on the yacht.
Thank God this has nothing accusing Bobby! Why's everyone suspecting him?
Houston was brought to Capri's Capilupi hospital on Monday with a small but deep cut on her left cheek, police said. According to reports in "The Milan daily Corriere della Sera," Houston was crying and received two stitches.
Police say conflicting accounts of how Houston was cut prompted them to investigate. Houston told police she was hurt by hitting a rock while swimming. A member of her yacht crew claimed Houston was hurt while on the boat, according to a paramilitary police officer.
Houston and Brown are touring the Mediterranean on the yacht.
Last June, witnesses in Honolulu said they saw Brown slap Houston during an argument in a shopping mall. Houston refused to cooperate in the investigation. A publicist for Houston later said it was a case of mistaken identity.
The question in the August edition of Ebony is Who should play the tragic star?
Janet Jackson
Whitney Houston
Vanessa Williams
Halle Berry
Jasmine Guy
Angela Bassett
This is in the order in which I think you get the role of Dorothy Danridge.
From Gary
I heard Janet's actually got the role now. I'm not sure if it's true but hopefully Whitney still has it.
I received a letter again from a staff member in Arista who said there will be more promotions in the near future. Yeah, yeah that's what they always say then they do nothing. Lots of fans have written me to say how disappointed they are with the "Heart" failure...
July 22 [10:00 EDT] -- Whitney Houston was brought to the hospital yesterday on the Italian Island of Capri, where she and her husband, Bobby Brown, had stopped on their yacht tour of the Mediterranean, according to the Associated Press. Houston had a small but deep cut on her face, which has sparked a police investigation.
According to police, it was conflicting reports of how Houston incurred the wound which prompted them to investigate. Houston told the cops that she hurt herself by colliding with a rock while she was swimming, but a member of the yacht's crew reported that the singer was cut while she was on the boat.
In June, witnesses reported that they saw Brown slap Houston during an argument in a shopping mall. Houston wouldn't cooperate with an investigation, and later said it was a case of mistaken identity.

WHITNEY HOUSTON is being upstaged by new soul sensation BRANDY - and it's causing catfights on the set of a new film. Crews on the set of TV movie CINDERELLA have to rely on co-star WHOOPI GOLDBERG to stop the rows, according to American tabloid the NATIONAL ENQUIRER. A source on the set tells the paper, "Whitney is just plain jealous of the young star and it shows in her attitude. Some of Whitney's comments have got back to Brandy." The source quotes Houston, 32, as calling the 18-year old actress and singer a "little pipsqueak" and she won't let her "forget one minute who the boss is - she may be an actress but when it comes to singing I can blow her doors off." In a row over a dance scene Brandy retorted, "Just because your dance moves are from the 1970s doesn't mean you have to get mad. Let us young people have a little fun." Whenever she's around and the atmosphere is tense, Goldberg steps in to calm things down, cracking jokes. The source adds, "When things start heating up, it's Whoopi to the rescue!"

(Now, I agree. I don't think they care even. This guy can only say "Sorry you are so unhappy". Long term plan? I think if they stop promoting, it will have its day. Besides, it's not some christmas album which can be released year after year. You know, God's Property is doing better than "Preacher's Wife" so far. And both are gospel albums. Looking at God's Property (#5 this week), its sales are from the R&B market. "Step By Step" was a huge mistake. It hardly helped the album and is remembered only for being a club hit. R&B radio didn't even play it much, not even the Teddy Riley mix. They should've promoted gospel songs like "I Go To The Rock" or "Hold On, Help Is On The Way". If "Stomp" by God's Property can hit and bring the album to #1 on the R&B albums, Arista made a huge mistake.)

Enclosed is news of CINDERELLA-tv movie from Vareity. It gives an insider's view of the production and it sounds magical to me! Hope it will be another success on Whitney realm on television this time. If possible, we would love to see Whitney get an Emmy for her co-producing this show!!! Keep our fingers crossed. :)

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - There's still plenty of magic in Hollywood, and nowhere is that more impressive than on Stages 22 and 26 at Sony.
That's where the $12 million, two-hour ABC Rodgers & Hammerstein ``Cinderella'' is being filmed for The Wonderful World of Disney, to air in November sweeps. The Prince's Palace set is built on the same stage where The Wizard of Oz's Yellow Brick Road once stood; in homage, the courtyard bricks of Cinderella are tinged yellow.
Impressed by this movie magic were Mary Rodgers (daughter of Richard) and James Hammerstein (son of Oscar II), who were visiting the set as I arrived Thursday morning at Sony. They had given their blessing and go-ahead to the ``rainbow'' cast put together by executive producers Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Debra Chase and Whitney Houston.
``Houston is involved in every decision,'' Zadan and Meron told me. ``She approves all elements.''
As for the elements of a mixed-race cast, Whitney -- who grew up, as we all did, with the classic, Caucasian ''Cinderella'' casting -- told me, ``It's a good time to do something like this. It's happening. After all, we all love 'Cinderella.' It was a joint decision to do it this way.''
In this version, Cinderella is played by Brandy (Moesha); the Prince by handsome (Filipino) Paolo Montalban; the Fairy Godmother, Whitney Houston; Queen Constantina, Whoopi Goldberg; the stepmother, Bernadette Peters; the stepsisters, Natalie Desselle and Veanne Cox; and Jason Alexander as the Prince's steward.
They are directed by Robert Iscove in the contemporized (somewhat) script by Robert Freedman, produced by Mike Moder, in colorful costumes by Ellen Mirojnick and on Randy Ser's fairytale sets -- one of which may make its way to Disneyland.
Disney chairman Michael Eisner will introduce the made-for-TV movie when it airs on ABC. He, Joe Roth and Charles Hirschhorn were responsible for the go-ahead of the project. And, Zadan and Meron remind, ``We were told that if Whitney didn't do it, no one would have come aboard.''
As I arrived on the set, Brandy was about to get the marriage proposal from the Prince, who discovered it was her foot that fit the slipper. But Brandy (18) told me her foot would never have fit the tiny slipper: ``I'm too tall,'' she laughed, ``But my feet are pretty, anyhow.''
With the many successful Rodgers & Hammerstein revivals, I asked Mary Rodgers what would be the next R&H to return to Broadway. Maybe The Sound of Music, she said, adding that Oklahoma! is being readied for England's boards next season. She and Hammerstein said this Cinderella, despite its rainbow cast and contemporary music beat (with bongos), is ``true to the original.''
(The Julie Andrews starrer, at a cost of $375,000, aired March 31, 1957, and was viewed by 107 million. CBS's 1965 redo starred Lesley Ann Warren.)
Three musical numbers are added this round, including Falling in Love With Love which was written by Rodgers with Lorenz Hart, and which will be sung humorously by Bernadette Peters. Also The Sweetest Sounds, which Rodgers wrote by himself for No Strings, after Oscar H. died. (It was the only musical he wrote by himself, Mary added.) The third song, not in the original (or the 1965 remake) is There's Music in You, which Whitney will sing. It's from the 1953 feature Main Street To Broadway, in which R&H also appeared.
Mary Rodgers is particularly proud of the music being written today by son Adam Guettel, who has the CD Floyd Collins (Nonesuch) now on the stalls.
``I guess it's a genes conduit,'' she smiled.
James Hammerstein says he'll be busy producing through the year 2000 thanks to prolific writer Joe DiPietro, whose ``I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change'' was produced by Hammerstein.
Jason Alexander says he cannot go back to Broadway because the legit hours are not conducive to being with children and raising a family. Meanwhile he returns to L.A. boards in ''Promises, Promises'' again at UCLA's Freud Hall, Aug. 14. Alexander hopes Cinderella's producers Zadan and Meron will do more TV musicals -- with him. He suggested City of Angels. Jason just directed a seg of AMC's ``Remember WENN'' in N.Y.
As for the future of Seinfeld after this year, he says it all depends on how well it does and how much fun they continue to have (under their new pact$).
Meanwhile Disney has promised Cinderella's producers Zadan and Meron more TV musicals (they also did Gypsy) and they're talking possible projects with Bette Midler, well as with Barbra Streisand and Glenn Close -- with whom they did the very serious ``Serving In Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story.''
Whitney Houston's talking with Danny DeVito and Jersey Films to play a detective in the feature version of ``Get Christie Love.'' About the Dorothy Dandridge biopic, Houston thinks it should be done now; she'd not star, but produce.
Lest we forget, there will be Cinderella special effects magic: pumpkins turning into coaches, mice into coachmen, etc. It will be created by Digital Magic.
And talking about special effects, on the stage next to ''Cinderella'' at Sony: Madison Square Garden had just been eaten by Godzilla...

Despite early reports that the two singer/actresses were eager to work together, sparks have apparently started flying between co-stars WHITNEY HOUSTON and BRANDY NORWOOD on the set of their new movie CINDERELLA. Houston, 33, reportedly told GRAMMY-winner NORWOOD, 18, "It takes years to be as good as me." An insider says that Brandy in return takes delight pointing out that those "years" Houston took becoming that good in reality just mean that she is now past her prime. The same insider confesses, "It's only a matter of time before it turns into a roll-in-the-dirt cat-fight." We would love to have ringside seats for THAT one…
Now I wonder if I can believe this one... Cybersleaze didn't post any lies about the Hawaii incident...
Sorry you are so unhappy with the promotion of "Preachers Wife". While it has sold over 2 million copies it could get even better. I also hope that some more promotion will be done in the future. Thanks for your comments.
(Okay so you think it could get better? By the way it's 3 million. Oh well, please release "You Were Loved"!)
My Question:
Have you heard about Whitney's new single "My
Heart Is Calling," which only entered at No. 2 on the Bubbling
Under chart in the June 28 issue? It will become Whitney's
lowest charting single if it enters the Hot 100. Because of
absolutely no promotion at all for this single, its chart life may
remain bleak.
Billboard's Response:
As for "My Heart Is Calling,"
it certainly is struggling up the Hot 100. It debuted at No. 81
the week of July 5, 1997, then moved to No. 80, and this
week inches up to No. 77. I think it's a great song, but one
thing that might be hampering it is that it is from "The Preacher's
Wife" soundtrack, and that is not exactly a hot current item. It's
been a long time since the movie was released, and even the
home video has been on our Top Video Rentals chart for nine
weeks.
Special Thanks to Fred Bronson who featured my question on his Chart Beat Chat Column which answers questions about the Billboard Charts. For the full question and article, Read Here!
The new "Step By Step" Promo 12" is a double 12" package with 3 new remixes from Tony Moran and Junior Vasquez. Here's the track listing:
Step By Step (Junior's Arena Anthem Mix)
Step By Step (Album Version)
Step By Step (Tony Moran Diva x Diva Mix)
Step By Step (Tony Moran Radio Remix)
Step By Step (Soul Solution Diva Vocal)
Step By Step (Junior's Tribal x Tribal Beats)
Step By Step (K-Klassic Remix)
Step By Step (Teddy Riley Remix)
In case you didn't hear, there's a special promotional 12" out of Whitney Houston's "Step By Step". It's not available in stores, but i saw it where I work. On it there's 3 or 4 remixes that have not been realeased anywhere, and Whitney's name only appears as "Houston". I'm sure if you really want it you'll be able to find it somewhere. It features dub and underground mixes by Junior Vasquez and Tony Moran.

Thanks a million to Carrie for taking the time to type out an interview with Whitney she found in a magazine.
Interviewer: What do you worry most about your daughter?
WH: That somebody's gonna be stronger than I am and influence her and take her away from me. That really drives me crazy. There are so many mean people who have sicknesses. They prey upon our children, and we don't know who what or where...it's very very frightening. Intrviewer: Did you enjoy being pregnant with Bobbi Kristina? WH: I loved every moment of it. I LOVED it! I had the best time. And I think a lot was due to Bobby because he was such a charmer. He was the best friend and the best husband. There was nothing he wouldn't do for me.
Interviewer: You've been with Bobby a long time now. What are the qualities that attracted you to him?
WH: He's a gentle man. You always hear about one side, and the press sees him when he's out somewhere drinking....
Interviewer: He's got a wild reputation...
WH: Yes, he does. But he's no different from anybody else who likes to have a good time. I don't like to go out as much as Bobby does. He enjoys it.
Interviewer: How do you handle his being in the headlines? He's been in some violent scenes.
WH: Well, I don't think that every time Bobby steps out that he intends to get into some of the things that happen. I know that he doesn't.
Interviewer: Are you ever physically afraid of him?
WH: Sometimes, sure. There is an element of street out there, and I know the streets myself. My mother took me and put me in an all-girls school and said, "No, girl. You're going this way, and this is what we're gonna do here. But the best advice I can give is stand by your man. It's not just the good times that matter, it's the not-so good too. (Yeah so can you leave him alone now?)
According the BMG Music update reports:
The Newark airport will be renamed after her in 1998 December.
Wow, first a school, now an airport! She is truly a legend!

I read this article about Whitney and she's got this fund set up to help people with problems-it's like a helpline. So I really don't think that she would keep quiet about being lesbian if she has helplines set up for people who are afraid to admit being lesbian. I wish the press would leave these people alone. I mean-they never get any good news that has to do with the real world anymore. Instead of nosing aroung in other people's life, they could at least make an effort to write a proper news article. All you can find today in newspapers is crap written about other people's lives. No more important news. It's ridiculous.....

Whitney wasn't there to sing LIVE as I had thought she was going to...they just played one of her songs (Step by Step), that's all. But in tvguide online they made it sound like she would be there to sing in person...I guess they wanted a big name so people would watch the program...

By the way,I want to report about the magazine I found at the secondhand bookstore last weekend.According to it,Whitney Houston appeared on Japanese TV commercial in 1989. Do you know that? (I became a big fan of Whitney since The Bodyguard so I didn't know that. It was Sanyo that appointed Whitney as the image model. That company started Sanyo Heat Beat '90 campaign and made some Whitney original goods, like T-shirts, telephone cards, etc. I can tell you more details of course, but some Japanese may also read your homepages,so won't you call to them about this. I'm really interested in these goods.
If any Japanese people know about this, please e-mail me! Thanks to Eita for this info!
Some interesting information I got on the "My Heart Is Calling" single. It seems that there is yet another cover for "Preacher's Wife" on the back of the single. It has Whitney in a badge turtleneck looking upwards with her hair down and curly like in "Step By Step".
Also, the single says "From the Triple Platinum Soundtrack Album" which means the "Preacher's Wife" is now certified for sales of 3 million. Hope to see that figure go up soon!
WHITNEY HOUSTON has seen some of her amazing fortune fizz away after an investment in soft drinks giant PEPSI COLA went wrong. The superstar singer and a group of celebrity pals plunged $20 million into NEW AGE BEVERAGES, which markets Pepsi in South Africa. But the company pulled the plug on its promotions when it got clobbered by rivals COCA COLA. Actor DANNY GLOVER also got stung by the bad investment. Glover, who forked out $75,000, admits, "This wasn't supposed to be a quick kill." Other unfortunate stars who invested were basketball hero SHAQUILLE O'NEAL and OJ SIMPSON's attorney JOHNNIE COCHRAN. A Pepsi spokesman says, "We share everyone's disappointment." Yeah, we bet they do.
