About the Author
My home was too chaotic for me (especially because of Genevieve/Jenny, my eldest sister, whom I fought most of the time), so I packed up all my belongings and took the bus many kilometres away. I was almost 18 at that time, so I applied for a job as a "guest relations officer" (which is called "dance hostess" now) in response to a lucrative newspaper ad. I was told that I was too young and inexperienced for the job, so I settled for "waitressing" instead.
I was attracted to the nitelife in a different sense.... the quality of the sound systems, the ambience, the environment, the interaction, the financial independence .... I also met many men asking me out. But I refused.
Then came (*******), a Eurasian gentleman who seemed so nice to me, initially, that is. I quit waitressing after a month there and worked as a clerk in a multinational company in an effort to hold a proper day job.
Never did I know my boyfriend who was so adorable could turn out to be such an abusive, violent and possessive beast just weeks later.
I've also had enough of his betrayals that I eventually found out about and I didn't like to be compared with his previous girlfriends.
Three months later, I quit my day job and was thrilled when I was finally accepted to work as a "dance hostess" in an "exclusive members' club" consisting of mostly Japanese clients whose tradition was to entertain their business associates frequently.(I also wanted to show my boyfriend that I could get that job!)
