- "Noel Not To Join Tailgunner"
- Noel Gallagher isn't about to launch an alternative career as the drummer in the new band Tailgunner, as a report in another weekly music paper suggested.
- A spokesman for Oasis told The maker that Tailgunner is Mark Coyle's band - the man who produced "Definitely Maybe" and has been Oasis' live engineer - and that Noel's input won't be as large as originally claimed: "Noel will probably have an involvement but whether he'll have time to play in the band is unclear. His main commitment, obviously, is to Oasis, who are about to become very busy."
- However true the reports were, Liam didn't waste any time in ridiculing the idea of his brother as a drummer. He allegedly told a tabloid: "I see no problem with Noel doing some stuff in anothe rband. And I feel fine about him drumming with them. He's crap though and could reeally do with some drumming lessons."
- Oasis have been experimenting with electronic elements and synthetic drum beats on many of the drum tracks for their forthcoming album, according to David Massey, executive vice-president of A&R at the band's US label, Epic. Massey spoke to an American website about the band's next LP, which is planned for release in 2000. He commentd: "I think it will really surprise some people. There's some songs that are almost quite acoustic and others that have [big] beats." He continued: "It's not a dramatic departure for them, but it's very contemporary and significantly different from the last album."
- Meanwhile, Tony McCarroll, Oasis' original drummer who was sacked in 1995, has spoken about Bonehead's departure, insisting that there is life after the band.
- He told The Independent on Sunday That he has no regrets about leaving Oasis: "In truth, I've never been happier or more excited about the future. I know it sounds very cliched, but I will never look back in anger."
- He called Bonehead's decision to quit "brave", adding: "I wish him the best of luck and I am sure sooner or later we are going to bump into each other. I'll probably need to get a few things off my chest before we can be real mates again, but I don't see that being a problem."
- Bonehead himself is still avoiding any press, which, according to a spokesman for Osasis, is unsurprising, as he gave very few interviews during his years in Oasis.
- tabloid tales
- There was a calm after the storm that the tabloids created around the announcement of Bonehead's split form Oasis. They have been far more interested in the (forever growing) family life of the Gallagher brothers. After the world premiere screening of 'Mickey Blue Eyes', starring Hugh Grant, a very pregnant Patsy Kensit hard to take a nap before joining the party at London's Waldorf Hotel, according to The News Of The World. So "gallant" Liam booked her a £300-a-night luxury suite, so she could take 40 winks in a quiet place. How sweet!
- The couple were pictured only days later in The Sun attending kensit's own premiere for her new movie, 'Janice Beard: 45 WPM'. Apparently, it was a less glamorous affair at a "tiny" 293-seater cinema in Edinburgh. The paper claimed that the "Oasis rocker" is wild about becoming a dad and he supposedly gushed: "I'm mad for being a dad. I can't wait for my kid to be born." Patsy allegedly told the paper the forthcoming event isn't going to dampen her career plans: 2I'm not quitting acting after I've had the baby. I've got the three films in the pipeline."
- Meg Mathews was described by the paper as putting the "mmm! in mum-to-be" while she relaxed at the launch of a new James Bond amusement ride at the Trocadero in London's Piccadilly. And if you saw the rather revealing picture of her, then you know why. An "onlooker" described it well: "Her low-cut black outfit was stunning - we all thought we were in for a bit of an eyeful."
