OASIS Faq
NEW MUSICAL EXPRESS
11th September 1999
- "Liam Records Without Big Bruv"
- Liam Gallagher has recorded his first song without Oasis, NME can exclusively reveal.
- The track is a collaboration with Ocean Colour Scene's Steve Cradock and is a cover of The Jam song 'Carnation'. It will be released as a double A-sided single with Buffalo Tom’s version of 'Going Underground' on October 11 through Ignition. It will be the first single taken from the album of Jam cover versions, 'Fire And Skill'. Out on November 1, it also features Noel Gallagher's version of 'To Be Someone, alongside recordings by Garbage, Beastie Boys and Reef. Paul Weller himself has contributed a reworking of 'No One In The World' to the album, which features as the final hidden track.
- "McCarroll In Wind-Up"
- Meanwhile, sacked Oasis drummer Tony McCarroll has been having a laugh at the expense of the Gallagher brothers - He sent a letter in to The Sun offering his services as their new bassist in the absence of Paul McGuigan, while obviously poking fun at the Gallaghers' recent run of disappearing band members.
- The letter reads: "Dear Liam and Noel. After hearing about my old pals Guigsy and Bonehead quitting, I thought I should drop you a line. It's been a while since we spoke but now I feel you might want to hear what I have to say. Now there are only two of you left from the original line-up, I feel I should offer my services again."
- He continues: "I know you two never thought I was the best drummer in the world but you might be keen to hear my proposal. I never really thought Guigsy was actually that good a bass player - so I feel I could quite easily step into his shoes. I've been practising and I think I could give it a good shot at being the next bassist. "I've been strumming my guitar and taking lessons at my new workshops up in Manchester. And with my new skills I might even consider abandoning my Northern roots and coming back down to the Big Smoke. So come on lads, it would be like old times. Don't worry, I'm not in it for the money, that's all been settled now. So let’s just al let bygones be bygones and start jamming. How about it then boys? Any chance of an audition? Yours, Tony McCarroll
- A spokesperson for Oasis confirmed that the letter had been sent by McCarroll, but explained: "He probably just did it for a laugh and to get publicity for his community music project. It's very tongue in cheek. I don't think Noel and Liam will be taking it seriously."
