- "U2 Outwit Oasis' Masterplan"
- U2 have beaten Oasis in the battle to get to Number One in the album charts last week by 22,000 records - and once more laid claim to the title of biggest rock band in the British isles.
- The Irish stars sold 144,000 copies of the album "The Best of 1980-1990" to go straight in at the top of the charts, whereas Oasis sold 122,000 of "The Masterplan", the band's B-sides and rarities album.
- U2's The Edge said he was highly impressed by the record sales of their "Best Of..." set - and that they'd beaten Oasis. "The greatest thing was that it was one of us that was gonna be Number One. I'm happy it was us. But if it had been them, I couldn't have wished for anyone better to have beaten us," he told NME.
- An Oasis spokesman said the band were pleased with their Number Two position. "It's not really a battle, because they're all great mates and have been for a few years. We're pretty pleased - Number Two's a very good result."
- "Liam Latest"
- Liam Gallagher will not be charged with any offence following his arrest on November 4 on suspicion of causing criminal damage, due to a lack of evidence.
- A statement issued by Creation Records last Friday (November 13) criticised national newspaper coverage of the incident involving the singer and photographer Mel Bouzad. It said Laim had not been on a 24-hour drinking binge, nor had he behaved "like a wild man" and continued: "In fact, Liam was confronted by Bouzad whilst having a quiet afternoon drink with a couple of friends at a local pub."
- The statement also claimed that Bouzad has frequently been seen outside Liam's home, despite his claims that he had not been following the Oasis singer.
- Bouzad had claimed that the singer broke his camera lens and stole his film in a fight outside the Pembroke Castle pub in London's Primrose Hill, though Creation denied the allegations.
- A Scotland Yard spokeswoman confirmed that no further action would be taken.
- "Most Influential People In The UK"
- Noel Gallagher, Richard Ashcroft, Alan McGee and Geri Halliwell have been voted as some of the most influential people in the UK today.
- Noel found himself at number 49, McGee at 87...in the Power 300 chart, which was compiled by Channel 4 TV and The Observer newspaper to show the people exerting the most influence on the everyday lives of British people.
