- "Meet The Suits"
- by Nigel Williamson
- in an article about the behind-the-scenes professionals who make the business possible; lawyer Kaz Gill
- ...no one illustrates what a serious business pop has become better than Kaz Gill, who, at 37, is one of Britain's foremost music industry lawyers. Staham, Gill and Davies, the firm he set up eight years ago with two partners, numbers among its clients Oasis, Radiohead, Suede and Elastica, and Gill is the archetypal music industry "suit", the ultimate interface where creative and corporate confront each other. He does, however, make a point of seeing all his clients outside business meetings. "That's the bit that makes what I do more enjoyable."
- These days, it seems, a good lawyer is near the top of the shopping list for any new act, only just behind the guitars and drum kit. "Whether that is a good thing or not I don't know, but we set ourselves up to support new artists and develop talent. Many of the big names we act for have been there from the start. We get involved earlier and earlier and avise who should manage them and which label they should sign with."
