Introduction

This page was not chosen because I visit the site -- this review is my first visit to the site.  This review does show what kind of pages your most likely to come across when your looking for a page.

Download Test

  • All browsers were closed before the test.

  • Address for the main page, or page that consists of contents, or the page that was viewed in the screenshot was pasted in the testing browser.

  • Time was ended when the browser stopped downloading.

  • U.S. Robotics Practical Winmodem 56k installed during test.

  • Time shown in minute/second format.

  • Read the Disclaimer for more information.

Browser Time
Internet Explorer

0:43

Neoplanet 2.1

0:13

Netscape 4.05

0:08

Opera 3.51

0:58

It is a bit difficult to explain the reason(s) why IE and Opera did so poorly.  As for Netscape, which had an impressive download time, we can presume that the reason for the low time is that it was the first browser to view the page, which was viewed two times.

Images - Total [16], Total bytes [149,486]

Image loading will take about:

91.96

seconds @ 14.4

45.98

seconds @ 28.8

23.67

seconds @ 56K

Disclaimer: The connection test was done on a 56k Winmodem connected at 32k bps.  Remember download times will vary depending on your modem speed, browser, server of the page, telephone line activity, and your internet service provide (ISP).  This will not guarantee that the page will download at the same rate on your computer as it does mine, this is just an estimate.

Graphics

  • Velocity 4400 18MB used.

  • ASTVision 4I monitor used at 32-bit color and 800x600 pixels.

The layout on this page is made with Netscape in mind -- this is a page that will downloads and looks well in Netscape, in addition to all of the browsers.  The images look a bit larger in the other browsers, while Netscape seems to keep the image and format of the page under control.

If you have been on the internet long enough to witness the many changes pages' format, you will be quite familiar with this format:   left-pane frame, middle column containing sections and information, and finally a white background.  Very simple, but still the download time is a bit dissapointing considering it's format.

The Page

This page mainly focuses on information, not multimedia.   There may be a few multimedia sections, however.

  • Information - This page has a variety of information.  As you can tell from the following list, it is outdated: Wishkah information, Nirvana FAQ, Nirvana Bootleg Guide, Discography, Concert Chronology, Equipment, Krist's AMN post; in addition to some things about Kurt's death.  Nothing new or original here.  There are plenty of other pages that offer more viable information.
  • Images - Total Images - 34, [363,891 bytes].  As you can expect..outdated pictures.
Image loading will take about:

223.11

seconds @ 14.4

111.55

seconds @ 28.8

57.43

seconds @ 56K
  • Audio/Video - WAV., AU., MIDI, AVI. and MOV. formats available.  I will admit that it does offer quite a bit of songs.  Still, I am a little resistant because it is not on the page's server and it is probably outdated.   You could try to download some of the songs if you wanted, but there are plenty of other pages out there that offer the same thing and more.
  • Lyrics - For all of the albums before Wishkah, including rare songs.  In pretty good format.
  • Guitar - Same format and style as the Lyrics.
  • Links - Well, this seems to be the only impressive section on the page.  It allows you to search through it's database, but not matter what your query is, you get the same page.
  • Message board- A cute lil' message board.  Not a lot of posts, not a lot of anything.

Conclusion

This page is nothing to get excited over.  We can still manage to learn a lot from this page.  It is nice to see the old pages.  Back then, most of the pages were quite original.  We can also learn to keep our layout simple, our content fresh, and..hmm, add a search engine to our page.
