Despite being a famous pop singer, Britney Spears is just like any other 17 year old girl. She loves to shop at the mall, read romance novels, and long idyllic days at the beach. The only thing that makes her different from other girls is: she loves singing, dancing, and making music.
This beautiful and bright teenage girl from Kentwood, Louisiana ( population: 1200), has been performing ever since she was a little girl in church choirs and dance reviews. When she was only 8 years old, she auditioned in Atlanta, Ga for a part on the Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club. Unfortunatly, she didn't get the part, but she did get an agent in New Yourk. In New York she studied at the Off- Broadway Dance Center and the Professional Performing Arts School. Soon Britney appeared in commercials and plays.
When she was 11, Britney finally joined the Mickey Mouse Club. She stayed with the show for all of 2 years, then returned to her hometown of Kentwood. After a normal year of highschool, she started thinking about her future. She says. " It was fun for a while, but then I started getting really itchy to get out again and see the world."
At 15, she got on a plane and headed for New York once again. She auditioned for an all-girl vocal group, which lead to her developing a career as a solo pop singer and her eventual rise to fame.. Britney's very first single, "...Baby One More Time," made its debut at 17 on the Billboard's Hot 100 Chart. She has since been featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and in Teen People. She is currently opening for the band 'N SYNC.
