» CHAPTER FIVE «

Cheste helped Brian lay down on the couch. He still had one hand clutching his chest and the other holding his stomach. His young face was knotted up in pain. Warm tears escaped from his tightly clenched eyes. She knew that the pain was the only thing real to him at that minute. Cheste knew she couldn't do anything for him. She knew she could only sit back and watch him wither.

Brian opened his eyes and tried to look at her. She saw that the hue of his eye was changing and that his eyes darted about, unable to focus on anything. Cheste quickly retrieved a garbage pail and set it next to him. She knew what was coming. His face paled, even his pink lips lost their color. Brian found that he was unable to shut his eyes. She gently placed her hand over his eyes and forced them shut, leaving her hand there in case they opened again.

Brian felt like his insides were being torn out and then replaced with beaten, oddly shaped organs. His stomach lurched, responding not only to the fiery feeling in his organs but to the rapid movements of his eyes as well. Cheste shifted him so he faced downward. Brian didn't know which way was up. His equilibrium was shot and he felt queasy. A hot feeling filled his throat before all contents of his stomach were forced from his body. He could feel Cheste holding the upper half of his body with one hand and the other still firmly over his eyes. His eyes ached, but not with the same fire as they had before.

Finally the pain subsided a little, but his body still ached. Cold sweat ran down his body and plastered his bangs to his forehead. Still, Cheste left her hand over his eyes. Several whimpers escaped from his pale lips. "Shh... it's almost over."

Brian didn't have long to wonder was still ahead of him. The new feeling was somewhat familiar, but with the pain, it made the usual pleasurable thing feel like hell. He felt his muscles contract and then release. His entire body spasmed. This repeated two more times. Normally, his body was left with a dull ache, but now, waves of pain ran through his body. Brian desperately tried to get a good gulp of air, but his throat wouldn't open enough to allow the amount he wanted in.

Cheste removed her hand. "Slowly open your eyes and look at me." Brian complied and was relieved to find that his sight was back to normal. Something was different, he could see things sharper now, more clearly. Cheste looked into his now teal eyes. Her suspicion was correct, they were the eyes of a Nyton. Her hands swiftly moved to his throat and gently rubbed it. Brian found it easier to breathe and he quickly swallowed large amounts of air. Her hands continued to knead the tender skin.

"Wha... what was... that?" Brian gasped as he fought to regain some composure.

"This will take a while to explain, but I believe you need some rest." Cheste's hands began work on his other sore muscles.

Howie called an ambulance. It had been about two hours since Brian had collapsed. The group gave up on Brian waking up by himself. Nick sat on the end of the couch, propping up Brian's head. He and Kevin kept vigil over the unconscious man.

Nick rubbed his eyes like a small child trying to stay awake. Howie seemed to be holding Kevin up completely. Kevin's green eyes never faltered from their intense stare at the lifeless body. It was almost as if Kevin was willing Brian to look up by staring at him.

AJ walked back in the room and looked at Howie, "How is he?"

"Same. But Nick is about to fall asleep, but he's not letting himself and I think Kevin might needed to be treated for shock. The ambulance is on its way," Howie reported.

"I'm not tired," Nick whined.

AJ and Howie exchanged glances. Their brown eyes both said the same thing, "He's tired." Nick never saw the look because he was dozing off.

A short time later, Brain was at the hospital. The only diagnosis the doctor made was that Brian was suffering from exhaustion. Kevin had a feeling that the doctor's analysis was wrong, but he couldn't disprove it. Kevin was resting in the room next to Brian's. Nick refused to leave Brian's side. The blonde's left hand held tightly onto Brian's limp right hand. Nick soon felt sleep overcoming him and he rested his head down on Brian's bed.

Brian slowly peeled his eyes open. He noted that his body was still a little sore, but it was bearable now. His breathing had returned to normal and for some reason he felt renewed. Brian realized he was wearing different clothes now. He couldn't remember what he was wearing before but he knew he didn't have anything that felt this soft. The material was several times softer then the finest silk and it had a rich deep red color to it.

"You needed that rest. You were exhausted after that. While you were sleeping, I bathed you and gave you new clothes," Cheste stated.

Brian felt his face heat up and he was positive it matched the color of the garment he now wore. She smiled, "Don't worry, it's nothing I haven't seen before. And I didn't do anything to you." His now teal eyes watched her carefully. "I forgot how modest you humans are. If you are offended, I am sorry."

Brian licked his lips, trying to find his voice. "No, it's okay." His words were soft. "Now will you tell me what happened to me?" His body language seemed to tell her that no matter what she said he wouldn't be surprised. It had been several hours since he met her and the information he had learned was now absorbed in his brain.

"Yes. As you know you are part Nyton and part human. Well you have been human for all your life. Your Nyton organs can be shifted into human organs, but sometimes problems occur. Sometimes part of you needs to turn Nyton but the other part of you won't let it. This causes, well... medical defects would be the best term for it."

"My heart murmur," Brian breathed.

"Yes, very good. Now here is the other part, that will explain what happened a few hours ago." Cheste's melodic voice continued the explanation. "When you learned you were part Nyton, your subconscious didn't know how to tell you to stay human. For a Nyton to remain something, he must keep that thing in the right frame of mind. You didn't know how to do that, so your body started to try to put you into the Nyton's natural form. However, since you're part human your body wouldn't let you. That's why you were in so much pain. Somehow your body established the ability to maintain human form, or it was forced back. I'm not sure which. Now that it is established in your mind, you'll most likely stay human. But if you have any sort of pain later on, just get in the human frame of mind. Do you understand that?"

"Yes." Brian drank in ever word she said.

"Now here's the second part. Since you're Nyton you know of the dangers the other Nytons face. I'm not quite sure how because I am not Nyton. The other thing that happened to you was your body testing your ability to reproduce. I'm sorry to sound scientific and crude, but there is not other way to explain it. Now you know that if a species is with a member of the opposite sex there is well, the general need to mate."

"Kind of like Species 2," Brian interrupted.

"I think, but I am not certain. You have that natural link that all Nytons do, you know what danger your race is in. And your body will try to fix it. Now what I say here is very important. Are you listening to me Brian?"

"Yes ma'me."

Cheste smiled a little at his "southern gentleman attitude." "When you return back to Earth you must NOT mate with anyone! You don't know if it is human or Nyton in human form. There is no way for you to tell the difference. If it is a Nyton then the fate of the universe could change forever."

"No one?"

"No one. And if you must... what's the word you humans use... I believe the slang jacking off is the one I'm looking for. If you must do that, you must make sure that you aren't careless and leave...." Cheste wasn't sure how to phrase what she wanted to say without offending him.

"You want me to make sure there is nothing that the other Nytons can find and use," Brian guessed.

"Exactly."

Brian thought about what she had just said. He knew he wasn't the type to go out and sleep with every girl, so he figured this would be easy for him. However, he didn't take into consideration basic human nature. He forgot that when you are restricted from something, it only makes you want it more. The fact that the Nyton part of him wanted to be with the female Nytons also slipped his mind.

"You must return now. Your friends and family are worried about you. Tell no one what you have learned and if there is more information you need, talk to your mother. She will be able to provide other answers to your unasked questions."

Brian's vision blurred slightly and the room spun a little. "Will I ever see you again?"

"Yes...." Her musical voice faded out with his vision and Brian was once again in darkness.
