» CHAPTER SIX «
Brian felt something latched tightly onto his right hand. He wasn't sure where he was. All he knew was that he was laying down and something had his hand. Brian's eyelids opened slowly to reveal his teal eyes. He focused on the object next to him. Nick was holding onto his hand for deal life. Wisps of blonde hair tickled Brian's arm. As the rest of the room came into focus, Brian realized he was in a hospital room. Energy slowly returned to his body and soft words fell from his lips, "Mommy?" He felt like a little boy. Images from when he was five danced in his head. "Mommy?" he repeated.
Nick's head jerked up at the sound of Brian's voice. His blonde hair stuck up at odd angles and blue eyes were clouded by sleep. He woke up immediately. "Brian?"
"Mommy...." was Brian's only response.
Nick was puzzled at Brian's strange behavior. Brian's fingers curled tightly around Nick's hand. "Want me to go get her? She's just outside," Nick offered.
Brian's words was as soft as his breathing, "Don't leave me."
Nick did the only thing he could which was to press the nurses' call button. Within minutes a nurse was in the room and Nick explained Brian's odd behavior. A doctor entered shortly after and attempted to run some tests on Brian. However the young man refused to cooperate and the doctor soon left.
"Brian, I can't feel my fingers," Nick winced. Brian's hand loosened his grip but still held Nick's hand tightly.
Brian's mom entered the small room. Her breath caught in her throat as she saw her youngest son looking so frail. He looked at her with hopeless teal eyes. She gasped. He had the Nyton eyes. She finally managed to find her voice, "Nick could you please leave us alone for a minute?"
Brian's hand retracted away from Nick's. "Sure," Nick replied worriedly. He kissed Brian's forehead and left the room.
Jackie sat on the edge of the bed and pulled Brian into a hug. "Why didn't you tell me?" He wanted to know. She could feel his tears soaking her shirt.
"You must understand that if was ever to speak of my origin then I would have been killed. I am no longer a Nyton, but a human. What I want to know is how much you know," she soothed.
"Well, the Nytons are in danger...."
"We can't talk about this here, it's too risky. When you get out we'll talk in private." Jackie stroked her son's hair.
"Promise?"
"Yes, now what are we going to tell the others about your eyes?"

"He knows now. This is worse then we originally feared," one of the beings observed.
"What do you propose we do now? Cheste must have warned him not to sleep with anyone. We will have to work extra hard at him..." The second being's eyes lit up. "Or calculate his weakness. No doubt he will tell his mother everything, we will just have to hear what the boy says."
"Won't she know we're here?"
"Yes, but that is a risk we will have to take."

Two days later, Jackie entered Brian's room with a wheelchair. Although the young man insisted that he didn't need it, the doctor insisted that he at least take it to the car. He pulled on a shirt, gimmicking in pain. His body was still sore from the other day.
Jackie smiled, "And you wonder why they want you in a wheelchair." She began to fix the collar of his shirt.
"Mom!" Brian protested.
"I'm just looking out for my baby." Jackie continued to straighten his shirt.
Brian sighed, "Mothers." It didn't matter that his mom was a Nyton, all mothers were the same.
"Now, get in," She offered the chair to him. "It's only to the car, I promise."
Brian reluctantly sat down. "Happy?"
"Yes thank you." Jackie kissed her son's cheek and wheeled him out of the hospital.
Once they made their way home, Jackie got Brian something to drink as he situated himself in the living room. "Now, I want you tell me everything you know," Jackie commanded.
Brian began relaying everything that Cheste had told him. By the end hot tears cascaded down Brian's cheeks. It was a lot for him to take in. Within the past 72 hours his complete life had changed. Jackie calmed down Brian.
"I can't believe you're the only one left," Jackie murmured. "When I left there was several thousand left at least." Several minutes later she requested, "Now tell me again who told you all of this."
"Cheste she said she was a..." Brian thought for a minute. "She was a Fetra, at least that's what I believe she said."
Jackie gasped. "The Fetras are the sworn enemy of the Nytons. Brian, you must heed what she has told you. The Nytons have brought nothing but destruction to the universe. I'm an a Nyton and it is something I am not proud of. I don't want the Nytons to go into extinction, however, destruction and hatred is in the Nyton blood. You must decide if the Nytons live on or die out."
"I can't believe all this comes down to me." Brian's breath was caught in his throat. "What do I do?"
"I can't tell you that, it is a decision you must make on your own. However I fear that if the Nytons are involved, then the decision will be made for you."
"What do you mean?" Brian inquired.
"The Nytons will stop at nothing to get what they want. And at the moment they want you and more specifically to sleep with you. If you refuse to corporate then they will force you to do what they want," Jackie explained, "So either way you loose."

"I have an idea," one being stated in the ancient language.
"What?"
"We will kill two birds with one stone. Go get Cheste and detain her."
"But, how...." the younger began.
"Don't worry about how everything will tie in, just go get her!" the older snapped.
"Going." The second being vanished. A smile curled up onto the first being's lips.

Jackie stiffened up. "What is it mom?" Brian asked.
"They're here," Jackie breathed. "Show yourselves! I know you're here!" she screamed.
A being in the form of a woman about Brian's age appeared sitting on a chair sipping soda. "How you survive on this Earth food I will never know."
Jackie pulled Brian close to her, and stared at the Nyton with cold eyes. "What do you want here?"
Brian could not keep his gaze off the beauty in front of him. She took note of Brian's interest in her. "My name is These, and I think you know what I'm here for." She walked swiftly over to Brian, cupping his face in her soft hand. It took all the strength Brian could muster to turn his head away from her. "Must you resist me Brian?"
"The deal was that if I came here I, along with whatever family would be left alone. You know this is a political refugee planet!" Jackie spat.
"You are right, however, we are now working under secondary protocol. When we are endangered, and one of your family members can save us, then all formalities and agreements get overridden." These smile was sinister.
"However he still has a right as being to decide!"
"STOP TALKING ABOUT ME LIKE I'M NOT HERE!" Brian screamed. Both women were taken aback by his outburst. Brian was a pleasant person with a controlled temper but at the moment no one would be able to tell that. "I AM A PERSON AND I HAVE RIGHTS! IT IS MY DECISION! YOU," Brian turned to These, "LEAVE MY MOTHER ALONE! AND YOU," Brian looked at his mom, "CAN STOP PROTECTING ME, I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF!" Brian stormed out of the house.
These looked at Jackie who was still staring after her son. "He's definitely a Nyton."
"What do you want from him?" Jackie continued to stare into the space where Brian had been just minutes ago.
"Just to mate with him," These said as if it was nothing.
* * * * * * *
Brian walked down the deserted street. He kicked a rock and watched it bounce along the black asphalt. He didn't know why he blew up at These and his mom. He had a feeling that the last person he needed to be mad at was his mom. After all, she DID have all the answers. Brian kicked another rock. It bounced off a mailbox post and hit him in the leg. "OW!"
"You know Brian, blowing up at everyone when you need them the most isn't exactly the best thing to do," came a whimsical voice behind him.
Brian turned around and smiled at the sight before him. "Cheste!"
She walked up to Brian, draping her arms around him. "Miss me?" Brian nodded.
Uneasiness began to form at the pit of Brian's stomach. His mind screamed at him to turn and run away. However, he couldn't get his body to cooperate. Her soft lips soon found his. And her grip on him seemed to tighten on him. More alarms went off inside his head. Brian had only known Cheste for a short time but he never knew her to act like this. If she had wanted him she would have done so already.
When Cheste pulled away Brian gave her a long hard look. "Who are you?"
Cheste's form melted before him and was replaced by a figure hidden in a cloak. "Probably your worse nightmare... as a human that is," the voice spoke the ancient language. Brian gasped as the being's teal eyes began to glow.
