Jess's Review

This week's review is the spiffiest thing that I can think of. It is the Hanson Concert at Detroit's Palace of Auburn Hills that happened July 28. I got to go and as I was telling my freind, Kate (who was also at the concert), "thgis is the greatest day of my life!" We got to the Palace a good hour before the show started. So, Kat and I went and got stuff from the merchandise booth. (I recommand the tour book and the poster. the poster is a good 6 ft. tall!)Then we got out dinner of pizza and went to our seats and wainted for Admiral Twin to start. Admiral Twin's set lasted for a half hour. Their music was okay. They weren't the greatset performers, but they were enjoyable. The only thing I really didn't like about their act was that I couldn't understand what they were singing. As for Hanson, I knew the songs, so even if I couldn't hear what anyone said, once the music started, I caught on. But, since I am not too familiar with Admiral Twin, it was a little difficult. Once the opening act was over, we waited a half an hour for Hanson. Kate bought binoculars and I was on "Hanson Patrol." The roadies had a silver screen on the stage, but from where we were sitting you could see around it.We didn/t see Hanson, but we did see Jason taylor and Scott Hogan (Jason is the wacky bacy up guitarist and Scott is the bassist). So we looked at then for a bit. The, the lights went out and "Gimme Some Lovin" started. Kate and I stood up and rarely sat down during the entire show. Hanson takes breaks between the sets. So, for the first set, which included "gimme Some Lovin", "Thinking of You, "Where's The Love", and "Weird", was over the guys left the stage so the roadies could set up fort the next set, which was the acoustic set placed in a "three car garage." In there, the guys played "Stories", "With You In Your Dreams", an old motown song "Money" (which I think was sung by Zac, and he did a very good job), "Solier" and "Madaline". Taylor let the crowd pick whether they wanted the guys to play "Money", "With You In Your Dreams", or both. As you could expect, we picked both. After "Madeline", Zac and Taylor left the stage. Isaac was on to play "More Than Anything" from BOOMERANG. His performance was beatiful. He has an amazing voice, espescially when he sang that song. I sat through the whole song with the binoculars fixed on him. "I think I am going to cry,"I told Kate when he was done. I guess I can't express how much I likes that song. After the wonderful "More Than Anything", a set change was done and out came Zac, Ike, and Taylor to give us some more reasons to scream. They sung "Speechless" and "I Will Come To You" before they introduced the back up people. Then they plyaed a song that I think they wrote, but haven't recorded yet. I didn't get to hear the name, due to the loud volume of the screaming, but it sounded cool. After the unrealeased song they played "A Minete Without You" (Kate's Fav) which they dedicated to the peoplewho were stuck on the second level, "Good Lovin", and "Man From Milwalkee". And, as usual, they took a poll on how many peolple there had MON, which was pretty much everyone. After that, everyone got up because they thought that the show as over, but Zac said "You want us back? Well, you'll have to scream!" So we did, loudly, and they came back to do "Look At You" and "Summertime Blues", in which Ike did a very interesting voice. They finally got the rest of the water out of their Super Soakers and ended the show with an a capella choursus of "Weird". After the show, we couldn't find the car, but that's beside the point. The show was excellent. the screaming wasn't as loud as I exspected it to be, and the guys all looked and sounded better on any TV braocast possible. As kate described it,"That was wicked! I can not even put to words how much fun I had!!" If you ever get a chance to go to one of their shows, I recommend it whether you like them or not! You will find a whole new respcet for Hanson and their music. So, thats all for me. See 'ya on Albertane!

I went to Michele's house at about 1 in the afternoon, but we didn't really leave until 2:30 because we had to do some stuff (i.e- get flowers!) We met up with Lauren and Rachel and they got in the car with us. We drove down the Hershey, and we went to Chocolate World. I was feeling kinda sick, so I didn't stuff myself with chocolate! Then, we went down to the sound check. I heard "Sunshine of your Love" by Cream, so I didn't think it was Hanson....... But they also played Where's the Love, thinking of You, and MMMBop (everyone there sang along to MMMBop!) Then we left and got lunch. By the time we got back to the stadium, it was just about time to go in. We got in, and we were amazed to see our seats! They were so cool!!! Here's what it was like: THE STAGE IS HERE SECTION SECTION SECTION A B C We were in row 8 of section B!!!!!! It was so cool!!! So, anyway, everyone started running over to the gates by the side of the stage, so we did too. We waited there a little while, and then the HANSONS walked by!! That was so cool!! Tay was wearing some kinda ugly shirt....ewww....... Anyway, they waved, but not in our direction:( Then, Admiral Twin came out to sign stuff! I got to talk to them, get their autographs, throw flowers at them, and I asked Jarrod to give Ike a kiss for me. He said he wouldn't, so I asked for a hug for Ike. He said he wouldn't do that either, so I was like, "OK, how about a handshake?!" And he was like "That, I can do! A handshake from Kate to Ike. Got it!" That was so cool! I didn't get to see John, because he didn't come out. That sucked. Then we went back to our seats. We talked to some girl who were behind us, and they got to go backstage! I was so jealous of them! They said that the Hansons wouldn't sign anything (who knows why?!?) but they got a picture with them, and Tay put his arm around one of the girls shoudlers! That would have been too cool! So, then, after a while, Admiral Twin came out! It was cool! They had on their matching suits, and they had really colorful guitars. They were great! Michele and I were going nuts for them, and they noticed! They kept smiling at us! We had "WE LOVE ADMIRAL TWIN" signs, but the bitchy guard lady made us take them down. You guys have to check out Admiral Twin! They are so cool! Go to their webpage! http://www.admiraltwin.com After Admiral Twin left, we went to the bathroom. That took a while, but by the time we got back, their was just enough time to get into our seats and get ready for Hanson. We could hear them behind the curtain getting ready, and talking to each other. Then, the curtain dropped! And they started singing Gimme Some Lovin/Shake Your Tailfeather. It was so cool! I would say, Isaac was no more than 15 feet away from me, we were that close! I can't tell you every detail of the concert, because that would take up way too much room! But I'll tell you about the REALLY cool stuff! After Gimme Some Lovin', they played "Thinking of You" and then "Where's The Love." Of course, they played the long version of WTL. That was really cool! It was hard to see Zac behind his big old drum set, but i could tell he was having a much better time then at the last concert I went to! Anyway, they played a couple of other songs, then, they left for a minute while the crew changed the stage. They made the stage into a "3 Car Garage" with a littler drumset for Zac, a chair, and an acoustic guitar for Ike, and a little keyboard and seat for Tay. It was so cute! They played a few songs, including "Stories" which they messed up on a little. See, Ike started singing too soon, and Tay put his hand up like he was saying "Hang on a minute. We gotta start over." but Ike just stopped singing, and started again at the right time. It was cute! Then, Zac and Taylor left, and it was just Ike. He sang that great song "More Than Anything." It was so amazing! He never looked up while he sang. (I wish he had because I had a sign for him that said "IKE! I Love You More Than Anything!") But it was nice that way, because he really looked like maybe he really had the feelings he was singing about. Oh yeah, and "Sunshine of your Love!" It was them playing! They played it for the first time ever on the tour at our concert! They also played the first song ever released by Mercury Records, but I don't remember what it was! It was soooooooooooo cool! Near the end, while they were introducing the back-up players, Tay jumped off the stage, and when he tried to get back up, he couldn't! Zac had to kinda pull him up, but It gave us a great view of his butt! They threw water balloons, and squirted water guns. Once, Tay got his big old water bottle, and Dumped it on the crowd, then threw the bottle! It was cool! And, boy can he ever throw those water balloons FAR!! Oh yeah, another cute thing! When they were just running around the stage, a BIG beach ball came up onto the stage, and Zac grabbed it. He was like "Wow!! This is one BIG beach ball!" and he kicked it into the crowd. Then Ike was like "Hey! Bring it back up here." so they did, and Tay set it down in front of Ike, and Ike took some steps back, ran forward, and kicked the ball. It was cool!! I had such a cool time And I loved it at the end when the three of them stood in the middle of the stage, and sang a capella "WEIRD," because I was standing on my seat, and it was like they were looking right at me, and I was looking right at them. It was so cool....................... BY FAR THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!
