The latest incarnation of the USS Enterprise is the Sovereign-class ship NCC-1701-E. The Sovereign-class ship is a bit of a departure from it's Galaxy-class predecessor. The Enterprise-E is longer in length but has only 24 decks as opposed to the Galaxy-class's 42. The Sovereign-class has an elegant and sleek design that represented the design style of the latter-24th century Federation. This new Enterprise could also be considered "retro" in styling in that the design of the ship takes many of its marks from the original Enterprise. Following in the trend of other new starship classes (such as the Intrepid), the Sovereign-class molds the traditional saucer section into the secondary hull to make the two flow together as one unit. As tradition goes, the ship has two warp nacelles which are connected by pylons onto the secondary hull, which houses the warp core. Interestingly, the saucer-section of the Enterprise houses the impulse engines. There seem to be two shuttlebays in very traditional locations: one at the very aft of the secondary hull, and another on the back end of the saucer section (like the Galaxy-class). Tactially speaking, the Enterprise-E is extremely advanced, with multiple phaser arrays and torpedo launchers. The main forward torpedo launcher is housed on the underside of the saucer section. An interesting note is that the Captain's Yacht is also located on the underside, in the same complex.

The Enterprise interior is very standard. The main bridge is located on deck one of the saucer. The bridge has an open and functional design. The command area is located in the center of the bridge, with the Captain's chair raised slightly above the two other chairs (one on either side), which are equipped with their own small readouts. Helm control and Operations take their usual positions in the front of the bridge, facing the main viewscreen. Many other consoles and stations line the walls of the bridge, and there are a few standing stations that allow for tactical and other controls. The bridge is equipped with at least two turbolifts in the aft of the room and access to the Captain's ready room, conference lounge, and an emergency airlock. The remaining 23 decks of the ship include very standard areas such as a modern sickbay complete with EMH program, holodecks, and a large and open Engineering which houses the warp core and plasma coolant tanks.
