Angurus, King Kong, and Mothra

Angurus

Angurus is simply yet another dinosaur revived by nuclear tests. The first of this species was sighted in 1955 when it and a second Godzilla attacked eachother in Osaka. The city was destroyed and that Angurus was killed. Later in 1972, a second Angurus was discovered when it helped Godzilla remove the threat of the Giant-Cockroach aliens of Spacehunter Nebula M, who had released the monsters Gigan and King Ghidrah(old)on Japan. Later, in 1974 the monster was injured by Mechagodzilla, and thought dead until 1999 when it was captured and placed on the Ogasawara Islands with the rest of the Earth's monsters. Angurus was one of the monsters released during the Kilaak Incident of 1999. Angurus also played an important part in the final battle in Fuji Forests. After this incident all the monsters, including Angurus, were returned to Ogasawara Islands.

King Kong

King Kong was first sighted on Faro Island in 1962. He was captured by agents of the Pacific Pharmaceuticals Company(PPC)in the intrest of publicity. At the same time, Godzilla, who had been buried in ice in 1955 after the destruction of Osaka, made his reappearance. When the Japanese Government found out that the PPC was bringing Kong to Japan they would not allow it! They already had Godzilla to deal with and didn't want to have to worry about Kong. They ordered that Kong be returned to Faro. Before this order could be carried out, Kong broke free and started heading toward Japan.

A few days later the beasts met in combat for the first time, with Godzilla the victor. Kong fled. Kong attacked Tokyo, but was stopped by berries put into the warhead of a rocket, that had a narcotic affect on the giant ape. Kong was then airlifted to Godzilla's location on Mount Fuji, and the two fought again. At first it seemed Godzilla would win again, this time with fatal results, but luckily for Kong a lightning storm ensued, and Kong was able to draw strength from the electricity! With his newfound strength, Kong grappled with Godzilla all the way to the ocean where both fell in. Godzilla somehow burrowed underground to escape (we all know what happens when you mix electricity and water) and Kong left victorious. Of course he he who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day...

Later, in 1967, Kong was sighted again. This time he had been captured by an evil scientist, to be used for slave labor, But King Kong Escaped! He was then challenged by a mechanical version of himself, Mechani-Kong. Mechai-Kong was destroyed by a fall off Tokyo Tower. After this fiasco, Kong left Japan and was never seen again.

Mothra(old)

Mothra was first encountered in 1961 when it came to Japan to retrieve the Shobijin, the tiny twin priestesses who lead the natives in prayer to Mothra (called Cosmos in later films). First coming in a larval form, but then metamorphing into it's adult form, pictured here, the creature seemed unstoppable. It di nnot leave until it had retrieved its priestesses.

Mothra made another appearance in 1964, this time to retrive its egg that had been washed of Infant Island, its home, and onto Japanese shores by a hurricaine. A company by the name of Happy Enterprises had bought the egg from the fisherman who found it, and when the Shobijin tried to ask the head of the company for the egg, he got the same idea everyone else who saw the Shobijin did ( $$$$$$!!!!!!! ). His attempts to capture them failed however, and the disappointed Shobijin returned with Mothra to their island.

As fate would have it, the next day (!?!), Godzilla emerged from the ground. He demolished everything that crossed his path. So before we could digest the fact that we had just refused to help the Shojibin, we were now pleading with them to send Mothra to fight Godzilla! After tremendous begging and crying, Mothra agreed to help. The titans clashed! Mothra was quickly killed by a blast of Godzilla's radioactive breath. Mothra had tried evrything, including the poison powder stored in its wings, but still lost.

Fortunately, the Shobijin were able to cause the egg to hatch immediately, and two larvae emerged. The two larvae were able to trap Godzilla in sticky strands of silk and then dumped him into the sea. They then returned with the Shojibin to Infant Island.

Later that same year, a meteor fell to Earth, releasing the monster King Ghidrah, and awakening the monsters Godzilla and Rodan. Again humanity pleaded for Mothra's assistance. One of the two larvae had died and there was no way that one silk-spewing caterpillar was goig to be any threat against the three-headed super-dragon! But Mothra had the idea to try to get Godzilla and Rodan to work together with it, together they could defeat Ghidrah. In a most hilarious sequence, the monsters "argue" with each other, over why or why not they should help the humans. ( This sequence was translated by the Shobijin, and features great quotes like, "Oooh! Godzilla uses such awful language!")After about a minute of this, Mothra left to fight Ghidrah by itself. Godzilla seemed to be moved by the little worm's bravery so, just before Mothra bit the dust, Godzilla stepped in and challenged Ghidrah. This caused Rodan to join in to, and sooon the three Earth monsters routed the space monster.

Mothra wasn't seen again until 1966, when it rescued natives of Infant Island from the forces of the Red Bamboo, an evil syndicate that produced nuclear weapons, and sold them to the highest bidder(maybe that's how Pakistan and India got their nukes). The natives were being used as slaves to make a berry juice that repelled the monster Ebirah from attacking the cargo ships that went to and from the island.

Mothra was not seen again until 1999, when it along with 10 other monsters was captured and taken to the Ogasawara Islands for study.
