Minya was first seen on Sollgel Island in 1967. Minya was in his egg, dormant until a radioactive storm, caused by a United Nations weather control experiment, revived the egg. The egg hatched and the defenseless Minya was immediately attacked by three Kamakuras. Godzilla appeared and fought off the Kamakuras, and then appeared to adopt the small creature as his son. Presumably, Minya is the same species as Godzilla, but as you can clearly see, this does not look to be quite true. Theoretically, Minya may be of a species similar but not identical to Godzilla.
After the Sollgel Island sighting, Minya was not seen again until 1999 when he was captured for the Ogasawara Islands Research Project.
Kamkuras were Giant Mantises indigenous to Sollgel Island in the South Pacific. The first recorded encounter with these creatures was at an unspecified date, when they were discovered by Dr. Matsumiya. The next known sighting was in 1967, when they were seen by the U.N. science team sent to conduct top secret weather control experiments.
Originally, the Kamakuras were only about 8 feet in height, but were mutated to their giant stature by the radiation storm caused by the weather control experiments. There were only three of these giant Kamakuras. Two were toasted (literally) by Godzilla, and the other was killed by the gigantic spider Kumonga.
Kumonga was first discovered by Dr.Matsumiya on Sollgel Island. The creature was not seen again until 1967 when it emerged to terrorize the "populace" of the island. The Kumonga killed and devoured the last giant Kamakuras and almost did the same for Minya. The Kumonga was capable of spewing webbing on it's adversaries, effectivly immobilizing them. In the end Godzilla and Minya combined their strenth to permanantly vanguish this dangerous opponent.
A second Kumonga was discovered in 1999 when it was captured for the Ogaswara Research Project.
