Tatewaki Kuno is the self proclaimed "Blue Thunder of Furinken High". In reality he is the captain of the school kendo club, son of the principal, and a lame-brain playboy beyond all belief.
When he first met Akane, he became instantly enamored of the girl. At the speech competition he stated that whoever wanted to date Akane must defeat her in one-to-one combat. Akane, being one of the most cutest girls at Furinken High, suddenly had to wade to school every day through swarms of attackers, who were trying to ask her out. Kuno challenged her on a daily basis, and miraculously, she won each and every challenge. This lasted until Ranma came to live at the Tendou residence.
When Kuno learned of Ranma and Akane's engagement from Nabiki Tendou , he became furious, and attacked him in the middle of a school hallway. The fight quickly left the building, out of a third floor window. In the pool, some thirty feet below, Kuno attacked Ranma again, under water this time. Blinded by the pool water, he grabbed Ranma to try to drown him. Being in cold water, his fist closed on girl-type Ranma's right bosom. After Ranma bashed his head into the side of the pool, Kuno lay dumbfounded, trying to figure out what had happened. He came to the conclusion that Ranma had gone and left a female imposter in his place. He tried to catch up to the girl, who had ran into the park. There he found Akane, who had been bringing hot water to Ranma. He challenged her, with the aside that if she could defeat him, he would allow her to date him. Besides his offer, Akane fought him anyway, trying to buy Ranma time to change back into a boy. At one point during the fight, as he was falling through the air, he knocked girl-type Ranma out of a tree. Ranma, still as a girl, defeated him handily. Suddenly enamored of the red-haired 'Pig-Tailed Girl', Kuno sought to try and date her. After selling Nabiki him several photos of Akane and Girl-type Ranma to him (for 1000 yen [Nabiki's price] a pop), she told him the fastest way to give a gift to the 'Pig-Tailed Girl' was to give it to Ranma. Following her instructions, he did so, only to see Ranma splashed with cold water. Nabiki appeared to pour hot water on Ranma. Kuno accused Ranma of practicing black magic, and enslaving the Pig-Tailed girl to his own evil ends. Once again Ranma defeated him, ending Akane's daily fights in the school yard.
Remember when he uses his wooden kendo sword, it is as deadly as the real thing and he usually speaks in poetry, or misquoted Shakespearean monolog. Also, after seeing Ranma change shapes, and finding out Boy-Ranma and Girl-Ranma have the same name, he still believes that they are two different people, and that he has a chance of freeing the pig-tailed girl from the evil Ranma.
