Ryouga Hibiki is the eternal lost boy with fists of steel and a heart of glass. He attended junior high school with Ranma, and always lost out in the bread line to Ranma. Not just once, but dozens of times. Ranma would very literally snatch the day's fare of food from Ryouga's mouth. Ryouga, not being able to stand this treatment any more, challenged Ranma to a duel in the vacant lot behind his house. Ranma accepted, and he as promised, showed up across the street from Ryouga's house the next day. Ryouga never showed. After waiting three days, Ranma went back home, and left shortly on another training mission with his father to the cursed springs of Jusenkyou in China. But by the time he found his way there after a four-day journey all over Japan, Ranma wasn't found.
To avenge the grudge, he went to China after Ranma. He eventually blundered his way to a desolate mountain range, where a pigged-tailed girl chasing a panda, knocked him off a cliff and into Heitouenniichuan, the spring of the drowned piglet. After narrowly escaping Jusenkyou with his new piglet hide intact, he wandered China on foot for several months before making his way back to Japan to vent his revenge on Ranma for leading him to China in the first place.
Ranma had absolutely no idea of Ryouga's curse until Akane hit him in the head with a barbell, during a rainstorm. Later that same evening a black piglet appeared in The Tendou house, which Akane instantly adopted as a pet. She instructed Ranma to give the piglet a bath, which turned out to be a revealing incident (of plot, as well as other things). So Ranma kept a promise to Ryouga to not to tell any one about his curse. Ryouga fell in love with Akane when she kissed what she thought was her pet piglet. He now sleeps on her pillow.
However, he feels certain that no one could love him as a human with his curse. Akane is unaware that the pet pig she sleeps with is Ryouga, despite several close calls, and is angry whenever Ranma abuses her piggy.
In addition to a complete inability to follow directions, Ryouga is fooled even by Ranma's most ridiculous disguises. Extremely strong, he often shatters rocks and walls in his anxiety.
