Our first baby!

It's kinda funny how fast everything went. We only got married May 12 of this year and within a few months, Shuhui got pregnant! For many of of you who knew that we went to Turkey for our honeymoon, let me answer this now: the baby is NOT "Made in Turkey". The whole thing happened after the honeymoon.

Let's see, Shuhui was feeling pretty strange one day when she decided to purchase for herself one of those off-the-shelf pregnancy kits. Well, it turned out to be "positive" and she called me immediately in the office to tell me the good news. I'm gonna be a daddy!

The 1st trimester is said to be the most difficult of all, and this is true for Shuhui. This is the time when Shuhui feels nausea very often and she will get dizzy spells in addition to being tired all the time. Normally she doen't get to bed until past midnight but Shuhui is now in bed by 10:30pm.

We made some adjustments such as moving back to Shuhui's parents' home so that her Mom can cook for her during dinner time and buy breakfast for her in the morning. She will take the cab to work and after work so that she does not need to haggle with the morning crowds. And the most important thing - that we start praying for our unborn child every night.

During this time as well, Shuhui took some additional food such as milk and some vitamins that she normally does not take. I bought for her "Anmum" milk which contains folate (for mornings) as well HL milk (for evenings before bedtime) . The gynaecologist (KW Lee in Glenaeagles Hospital) asked her to eat some Folic Acid tablets as well as Sangobion (iron + folic acid, etc) and DHA.

It has been said that if one looks at cute baby pictures during the course of the pregnancy, then the baby will turn up looking cute as well. I have no idea how this notion came about, but anyway, I found out about this excellent baby photographer named Anne Geddes who takes the best baby pictures I have ever seen. Here are some of her pictures that I printed out to be placed at Shuhui's workdesk.

As we progressed, Shuhui's womb became considerably bigger that we have to shop for new clothes. There are 2 ways of going about this: (a) to buy clothes of a increasingly larger size, i.e., from M to L to XL, or (b) buy maternity dresses. Due to cost, we decided to choose option B. We realize, after visiting a few shop that specializes in maternity dresses, that these are not cheap.

A "normal" looking dress can cost anything from S$70 to over S$100, which is not something we are willing to pay to be wearing only for these few months. Anyway, there are 2 places that we found clothes that are somewhat cheaper. One is called "Kiddy Palace" at Jurong Point and the other is at the "Metro" department store located at Marina Square. The Metro was having a sale of 20% off everything so we had a pretty good buy. Another good place is "Mama Chic" at Specialist Shopping Centre. In case you are wondering, the answer is "yes", we did buy the maternity from each of the places mentioned.
