More on the
Pokemon Trading Card Game
Now that you have the basic idea of the Card Game, you can expand your deck by getting either one or more of the THEME DECKS and some packs of BOOSTER CARDS. With each Theme Pack, you get a set of 60 cards (including a holographic), a Pokemon coin, 10 damage counters, and a rule book. Each Theme Deck concentrates on certain Pokemon Types:
OVERGROWTH DECK: Features Grass and Water Pokemon
BRUSHFIRE DECK: Features Fire and Grass Pokemon
BLACKOUT DECK: Features Fighting and Water Pokemon
ZAP DECK: features Psychic and Lightning Pokemon
In a non-beginner's game, each Pokemon Trainer has 60 cards in his/her deck. With the Booster or Theme Cards, the player may run across the following attacks: Sleep, Confusion, Paralysis, and Poison. The game gets really interesting if your Pokemon gets paralyzed (cannot attack or retreat for one turn), Confused (a coin determines if it can attack or hurts itself during the attack), or put Asleep (a coin determines if the Pokemon will wake up so it can attack or retreat). Perhaps the Pokemon has been Poisoned, in which case it continues to loose 10 HP every turn!
Each Booster Pack has 11 cards in it
THE DUELIST
Volume 6 Issue 3
(March 1999)
Wizards of the Coast, the makers of the POKEMON TRADING CARD GAME, has published an issue to help the player along. There are 4 articles which include a basic description of the game, a walk through a typical beginner's game, hints on building up a strong deck, and a complete listing and description of all of the Pokemon trading cards (damage, weakness, HP's, etc.). The issue also includes a "Playmat" so you can have your own POKEMON FIGHTING ARENA. I found this issue to be quite informative and useful.
