Viz Communications is publishing these English translations of the Pokemon manga (Japanese comic). Retail price is $3.25 US.  The first four comics have the title of "The Electric Tale of Pikachu"  while the current series (starting March 1999) is entitled "Pikachu Shocks Back".

The Electric Tale of Pikachu #1:  "Pikachu, I See You"  has Ash discovering a Pikachu gnawing on the electrical wiring in his home.  From there, the story is basically the same as the first TV episode, but without Prof. Oak.  May, Gary's sister, is introduced.

The Electric Tale of Pikachu #2:   "Clefairy Tale" has Ash and Pikachu discovering the Clefairy.  They meet Prof. Oak and Bill.  Ash and Misty are not in this story!

The Electric Tale of Pikachu #3:  "Play Misty for Me" has Ash battling Brock in the Pewter City Gym, as well as Ash battling Misty at the Cerulean Gym.

The Electric Tale of Pikachu #4:  In "Haunting My Dreams", Ash and Brock meet Sabrina.  This story differs quite a bit from the TV version.
