Three lousy weeks and still nothing. He'd given it his all. He'd tried to impress her, to seduce her, but she continually spurned him. Him. Lenon Luthour. He got everything he wanted, yet this one girl wouldn't have him. And he like it.
He couldn't explain why. Maybe it's because he wasn't used to people saying no to him. She was a challenge. She puzzled him like no-one had done before. She should be all rights have fallen for his charms, it looked like she had for a while. But she hadn't. And the more she ignored him and insulted him the more determined he became to bed her.
It wasn't just a matter oh honour anymore. It had become something more. Suddenly it wasn't Lex who had set the challenge, it was her. And he had to rise to it.
Lenon had been challenged many times in his life but none had been as hard as this, and he had never been determined to complete them as much as he was with this one. Somehow it was different.
Lenon didn't understand Lisa Larson. She was a complete mystery to him. She didn't behave like any other girl he'd ever been with. She was a mystery wrapped in an enigma. And he liked it.
He couldn't explain what it was he liked about her. It certainly wasn't her looks. He kept trying to tell himself it was the challenge but he knew that wasn't true either. It was something more then that. It was something he couldn't explain.
He didn't think about it to closely. Didn't want to. If he examined it he might find out something he didn't want to know about himself.
Now, he sat watching her. She knew he was here and he knew she knew. It was very infuriating. She let him sit there and watch her but if he came any closer she would get up and leave and he would have to chase her which would lead to an awkward conversation and him being shot down. He didn't like being shot down.
He had followed her to the small bar on the edge of town. Well, more accurately he had paid someone to follow her then walked in coolly 30 minuets after her. It was cramped and smoky and a bad band were playing on the small stage at the front of the room. There was a bar serving drinks to anyone, and a lot of the people in the establishment looked to young to be drinking. All in all it was the type of place where Lenon would hang out, not Lisa.
She wasn't here for the music and alcohol though. She was here for a guy. THey were sat at a table leaning so close there cheeks were almost touching. He whispered something to her and she smiled. Lenon felt a fluttering in his stomach and had the sudden desire to hit the guy. It wasn't jealousy though. That was what he told himself any way. It was just that the challenge was getting harder. Not that Lisa was cuddling up with some other guys when all his attempts had failed.
They rose slowly from the table and made there way out. Lenon remained in his seat at the bar. HE sighed and ordered another drink. Maybe he just needed to get well and truly drunk. Then everything would look better in the morning.
~*~*~*~
Lenon groaned and rolled out of bed. His head was pounding. He groaned and stumbled into the bathroom. He switched on the shower and relaxed back under the warm spray of water. He sighed as the water hit his back like little, needles, piercing his tired body.
He would have to act fast if he was going to get to Lisa. Maybe he could arrange for something to happen to her 'boy friend' Something very nasty. Or maybe not so nasty for him.
Imagine the look on her face if she was to find a tape of her new guy in bed with one of Lenon's associates. One of Lenon's male associates. But of course she would know he had done it and it would damage his chances even more, if that was possible. As much as he wanted revenge on the guy for moving in on Lisa while he himself was trying to it would have to wait.
He had to get to her first. He had to be her first. It wasn't like it was a requirement for Lex but Lenon knew Lex would never give him any respect if it took him so long that someone else had got to her and fucked her while he was still trying to get her to even consider fucking him.
Besides. If he couldn't be her first he didn't want her. He didn't want to be the guy she fell back on when she got dumped, or the guy she would always remember as breaking up her relationship. He wanted to be her first, damn it. Her first.
He stumbled out of the shower and towelled himself of. He strode out of the bathroom to find LEx sat on the bed. Just perfect. He should have been expecting it really. Lex had a way of showing up when he was least wanted. Lenon strode over to some drawers and pulled out some underwear then went to his closet and began picking out clothes.
Lex watched him intently. It unnerved him but he wasn't about to let the older boy see that. He pulled on a pair of black pants and a blue shirt then returned his attention to his 'brother'.
"What do you want?" he asked sharply.
"Are you still working on Lisa?" Lex asked. Lenon shifted under his brothers gaze. Somehow the way Lex was staring at him made him feel like he was still naked.
"Yes."
"You needn't bother. I already got someone else to do it."
Lenon's mouth dropped open. Lex did that. It was Lex's fault.
"It was a mistake to use you for this," Lex continued. "You're to well known. She was onto us. I needed someone she didn't know. He managed to do what you couldn't. Don't feel bad about it. Maybe next time."
"Why did you get someone else?" Lenon asked through gritted teeth. Lex just smiled indulgently at him.
"You were failing."
Lex rose without another word and left the room. For a few seconds Lenon stood still, then he whirled and threw the lamp from his bedside table on the floor. He tore the covers of his bed and pulled open his closet throwing his clothing out. He grabbed his TV and pushed it to the floor, and his VCR. The expensive stereo system went next. He pored all his energy into totally trashing the room, screaming as he did.
Finally he collapsed next to the wardrobe. He reached in and pulled out the box he hid there. With shaking hands he pried the lid open and grabbed a rollup, quickly lighting it and taking a deep drag.
He stayed there for quite some time, smoking. Finally he felt calm enough to get up. He made his way to the bathroom and combed his hair again then straightened his shirt, making himself presentable. He grabbed a jacket from the pile on the floor and left the room. He knew that by the time he god home the room would be clean, all the things he had broken replaced.
As he walked down the stairs he began to plot revenge.
~*~*~*~
Lenon found himself wandering through the city. The whole day he had been trying to come up with a suitable punishment for Lex but he couldn't think of anything. What could he possibly do to Lex that would hurt more then the betrayal. When he had got home all the evidence of his rage had been erased which somehow made him even more angry. He excused himself and went out to the track his father had bought under the building. It was a garage but it had been converted for Lenon's personal use. They used to use it for time trials until Lenon started refusing to co-operate.
He had run round the track for hours, going at top speed, but somehow it wasn't satisfying. He had thought about taking the car out for a drive but he didn't really want to be confined to the car right now. He wanted to run. To get away from everything.
Instead he had found himself wandering the streets. He didn't know where he was going, didn't care. He just wanted to get away. Just wanted to escape the thoughts.
He didn't realise he had arrived at the bar where he had seen Lisa and Lex's guy together until he was already inside. He ordered himself a drink then settled in to listen to the music. It wasn't that it was particularly good music, but the music was almost loud enough to drown out his thoughts.
He let himself drift away. Why would Lex do that. You didn't do things like that. If he was going to put another man on the job he could have at least told Lenon not to bother about it anymore. He wouldn't have minded if this other guy hadn't broken her so damn fast.
And here he'd thought Lex was doing something to help him. All Lex really wanted was to break him. Lenon knew Lex was jealous. Jealous that Lenon was the favourite. Lenon was the strongest and most intelligent. Lionel actually wanted Lenon, he must since Lionel had adopted the young boy. Lex was just jealous was all.
Lenon swiftly finished his drink and ordered another. He would just have to drown his sorrows. That would get rid of those pesky thoughts the music couldn't drown out.
Just then, the door opened and Lisa entered. Lenon silently swore. It was as if some higher power was conspiring against him. He didn't need this. He didn't need this at all. He wished he could just curl up and disappear but she had already seem him. She was staring at him, but not in the usual 'oh no, not you' way. In a desperate way.
She made her way over through the crowd and he fought the desire to ignore her. Maybe he could get her to fuck with him. Fuck her good. That would show Lex.
As she came closer he saw her eyes were red and tear stained. Her nose kept crinkling as if she was trying to hold back more tears. He kept his eyes on her as she came right up to him.
"Can we go somewhere to talk?" She yelled. He studied her for a second. She was a mess. Her normally neat hair was uncombed, springing everywhere, her eyes were puffy and she was wearing a big sweater and black jog pants and some wight trainers. she looked broken. Which would make it even earlier for him to get her into his bed.
He nodded and they walked outside. It was dark out. There weren't many working streetlights around here. They made there way to her car and climbed into the front seat.
"I'm sorry," she blurted. Lenon's forehead wrinkled in confusion. "For thinking your brother sent you," she explained. "I...I...There was another guy and...he...I...we had sex then he told me your brother was paying him and he wouldn't be caught dead fucking me if it wasn't for the money."
Tears started to trickle down her face. She sniffed and tried to wipe them away.
"It's ok," Lenon whispered. "I get it. You want a hug?"
She nodded and shifted closer, leaning her head on his shoulder. He stroked her back slowly and whispered soothing things into her ear. After a few moments she calmed down and relaxed into his embrace.
"I'm sorry," she whispered again.
"You don't have to be," he told her reassuringly. "It was a mistake. But I'm not my brothers pawn. I'm my own guy."
"I know now," she said softly. "You...maybe wanner go see a movie sometime?"
"It would be my pleasure," he replied with a grin. She looked up at him, eyes still red and puffy from crying, then left forward and pressed a soft, chaste kiss to his lips. The kiss only listed for a few seconds then she puled back and wiped her eyes on her sleeve.
"Want me to drive you home?"
"Sure."
~*~*~*~
Lenon sat on his bed. It was all so stupid. It should have been so easy to fuck her right then in the back of her car. Why not. She would have caved under a little pressure. Instead they were going to see a movie on Saturday night. They were going on a date. Lenon didn't do dates. Not unless they were totally necessary.
After she had dropped him of he'd got into his own car and driven out of the city. He'd driven to Smallville, the town where he had been found so many years ago. He'd driven to the field where he'd fallen to Earth.
He'd just sat for the longest time in the field, watching the crops sway. Then he'd got up and run. He figured he must have run around Smallville at least 20 times. IT let him think. He'd always thought best when he was running. This time thought he didn't feel any clearer after the long run though. If anything, the things he had thought over only made him more confused. Like why he hated Lex so much for what he'd done.
It was nothing to do with honour. As much as he wanted to say it was because Lex had challenged him then not given him a chance to prove himself that wasn't it at all. It had nothing to do with Lex really. It was Lisa.
It wasn't Lex who had betrayed him, it was Lisa. He'd gone all out for her. Given her all he'd got and what did she do in return? She went out and banged the first guy who wasn't him. It was all her fault. Which left one question, why wasn't he mad at her.
He'd thought about that while he was running to, but he'd not come up with any answers. Well, he had but they weren't true. They couldn't be.
He'd got back into his car and drove back to Metropolis, back to the flats and back to his bedroom. It wasn't to late and he wasn't to drunk (even though he was quite high but Lionel was oblivious to stuff like that) so all he'd got as he crept into the flat was a glare from his 'father'.
Now he was back in the confines of his room though one question kept running though his head, and he didn't want to answer it. "Why aren't I mad at Lisa."
He wanted to think it was because she'd said sorry. It should be enough that she apologised. He knew that wasn't it though. Greg had apologised for leaving Lenon waiting while he went of with some girl but Lenon hadn't accepted the apology. Why should Lisa be any different?
He knew she shouldn't be but she was, she was different. He want to tell himself that it was just because she was so innocent. She still thought that her apology would fix everything. But that wasn't it.
Maybe it was her eyes. Her big green eyes. They'd looked so innocent, all full of tears from crying and all. But he wouldn't let himself think about that. He couldn't afford to let himself think about her adorable eyes, or the way her nose crinkled, or her smile, or her lips, or the feel of her lips against his in the soft, innocent kiss...
He'd done it. He'd gone and fallen. He'd been told not to often enough in his life. Told others not to even but none of that mattered a flying shit now. He'd gone and fallen in love with Lisa.
He didn't know why. It wasn't like she was exceptionally beautiful. He'd seen exceptionally beautiful and she wasn't it. It wasn't that she was smart, he didn't like that, or that they had a lot in common. He didn't have any idea what it was. It was just there.
And speaking of just there the door opened and Lex happened to be just there at the worst possible time. THe older boy wandered into the room and lit up a joint. He offered one of Lenon who gladly accepted.
"Want to tell me what this is about?" Lex asked, holding up a picture. It was of Lenon and Lisa, sat in the front seat of her car kissing softly.
"None of your business," Lenon responded sharply. Lex just studied him curiously.
"She was upset," Lenon found himself explaining. "About your guy. She just wanted a shoulder to cry on and I wanted a fuck."
"THen why didn't you fuck her?" Lex asked casually.
"What's it to do with you anyway?" Lenon asked sharply, standing and pacing. Lex watched him, not speaking.
"It's not like I'm going soft or anything. It's just something about her. It's just her. I don't know why. Just something about her makes me wanner be nice to her and...I don't know Lex. I can't explain it."
"Oh I can," Lex supplied. "You've gone and got a crush on her haven't you."
"NO!" Lenon exclaimed, his professional mask slipping into place. He couldn't allow Lex to know that. THere were so many ways the older boy could use it against him."
Lex just smirked. Lenon knew he had lost and collapsed back onto his bed. He took another drag then turned back to Lex.
"What do you want to keep this to yourself?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"Of course. You're my brother. Can't I just do something nice for you?"
"No."
Lex laughed. The older boy took a drag then stood up.
"Think whatever you want," Lex said softly. "I won't tell anyone yet. I'll let you do what you want and stay out of your way. I just hope one day you'll be in a position to return the favour."
Lenon watched in amazement as Lex walked out the door. This was definitely to good to be true.
