The End 'O' Reilly
CyberParty ! !

10/25/97

Hee hee ha ha ho ho! It's over! The Reilly Reign of Terror is over! As of October 1, 1997, Sally Sussman is the new headwriter of Days of Our Lives. FINALLY!!!! No more plots that last longer than most marriages! No more ridiculous character about faces! Best of all

NO MORE REILLY!!!!

I'd like to thank everyone who has sent in their least favorite storylines!

Reilly's Dumb Ideas

Wow, there were SO many, I had to summarize them! But if you want the details, feel free to visit
Reilly's Dumb Ideas Page

It looks as though the Carrie/Austin/Sami/Lucas/Mike storyline is the winnner, with the MarDevil storyline running a close second! And the general trend seems to be that just about everyone hated storylines that had anything to do with romantic geometric configurations!

Open Letter to Reilly

from Carrie, in MD

Ok. This is really long, and you don't have to read it, but I was just really ticked off about this hero-worshipping crap that SOD was spewing forth about Reilly. Well, that disgust sort of manifested itself into the urge to write, and I wrote this letter to SOD. I never actually sent it, but it felt real good anyway. So, I'm sending it to you, because I think it pretty much summarizes my disgust toward Reilly. In a recent article, you mentioned how everyone is going to miss DOOL's former headwriter, James E. Reilly. I am curious as to just what it is about JER(k) that everyone is going to miss. Is it his amazing ability to create storylines that are long, repetative, boring chronicles of pain and misery? (Sami has been torturing all of Salem for nearly five years now) Or maybe his knack for dragging out once-interesting plots until no possible entertainment can be derived from them? (it was 3 whole years before Jack managed to convice Jenn that Peter was evil) How about his continuous character assasination? (Hope believed Franco, whom she had known for two days, over Bo, her fiancee. The old Hope would have never done this) Or perhaps his wonderful "romantic" reunions? (After being apart for ten years, John and Marlena were together for ten days before being broken up again) Maybe his wonderfully hideous plots that make you turn off your tv in disgust? (Marlena's possession, the "Lady in the Cage" storyline) Or how all his plots contain a schemer, a martyr, and a clueless idiot? (Kristen, Marlena, John Sami, Carrie, Austin) Maybe his popularity with the audience? (I think this webpage speaks for itself) His horrendous recasts where he constantly mistook nice looks for acting ability? (Austin, Billie, Roman, Jennifer) The endless insults to our intelligence? (Does he honestly expect us to believe that John wouldn't realize his fiancee was pregnant with a pillow?) His giving mediocre actors far too much airtime? (I could manage Kristen, but Susan and Sister Mary Moira was just too much) How about how none of the women on Days have spines? (Marlena couldn't tell Kristen to get the hell away from John Carrie let Austin play his charade with Sami for eight months) Or maybe how he wrote all the men to have the same characteristic - "If I can't be with the one I love, I'll love the one I'm with"? (Austin couldn't have Carrie, so he stayed with Sami John couldn't have Marlena, so he stayed with Kristen Bo couldn't have Hope, so he stayed with Billie) Or how the pillars of the community - Alice, Mickey, and Maggie - aren't allowed to have storylines? (When was the last time Mickey did something other than be a lawyer?) Or that, while he wrote all the people in Salem to be extremely religious, none have any real morals? (Kristen confessed to a priest, yet ignored his advice) Or that the majority of Salem ignores their children? (I have been taping Days for ten months, and in reviewing those ten months, I have sited one and only one day that Phillip Kiriakis was shown) Perhaps it is how he writes matchups to be near inbreeding that is so appealing. (Billie and Bo are step-siblings) Or how nearly everyone has had at least one failed marriage. (Marlena has been married to three different men) Or perhaps it is the utterly bizzare nature of some characters. (John is an ex-priest with two illegitimate children and a history of adultery) Are these the wonderful things the headwriter brought to us that we're supposed to miss?

Goodbye, James Reilly - I won't miss you at all.

me either!
