AGENT DANISH MULLY
Agent Danish Mully originally trained to be a medical doctor. However, her scientific
demeanour and ability to question the existence of even her own breakfast made her
the perfect choice when the upper powers of the FBI were looking for a suitable
partner for renegade Agent Sculder on the Hex Files. Although initially a sceptic,
Mully's experiences over the years have left her in a position where she can no longer
argue that there are not forces trying involved in a massive conspiracy against the
American people... However, realising that any agreement with Sculder's point of
view could lead him to be somehow attracted to her has always helped Mully retain a
firmly closed mind on issues of the unexplained.
It was clear very early on that Mully was going against her superiors wishes, by not
directly debunking all Sculder's work. Her resolute
actions, particularly in the face of danger at the hands of a monster (The
Birds)
led the Posh Club to see her as a threat and it cost her
dearly when the Pipe Smoking Man saw fit to have her removed from duty by
arranging her abduction by forces unknown. (Restoration) Although
subsequently returned, the event was to chance Mully's life forever (or at least in the
episodes when the writers saw fit to remember it had even happened).
An apparently live alien did nothing to change her scepticism (Les
Visiteurs) but her beliefs were rocked when Sculder discovered secret
Government files containing her own name. (Exodus Res Dana) Mully risked
both her job and her life to follow her partner's quest and discover the truth.
What she found was a microchip implanted in her neck, a revelation which cost the
life of her sister who was mistakenly gunned down in an attempt on her own life
(PS234) He resolved held, though, and when Sculder returned she rejoined
with his search for the truth. So much so that even after Sculder's recruitment as the
new Time Lord (Out of Time) Mully decided to keep the Hex Files reopen.
Her sister's death, though, led her on a personal crusade which culminated in her
capture of the man who killed her. (Cabrit Sans
Cord). However, she was not prepared for the revelation he told her once in
custody: that as a result of her abduction she had developed cancer.
At hospital, the extent of the tumour was revealed and classed as terminal. However,
Mully refused to give up and set up to try and find a treatment (Black Death).
It soon became clear that any hope for a cure lay in the same men who had given her
the cancer, and when Sculder came into contact with a virus identical to one in her
blood she
fought a Senate Sub Committee to make time for Sculder to locate the cure. He was
unsuccessful, and the blow was enough to make Mully believe when an informant
told her that her illness all her work with Sculder was a lie meant to cover the truth.
(Gologtha)
But Sculder forced her not to give up, she
should first try to expose the men who were guilty of giving her the illness
(Redox) However, she succumbed to her cancer and
when the supposed cure from Sculder apparently failed (Redox Too) it was
faith which gave her strength in her final hours... Mysteriously, her cancer went
into remission. Mully went back to work on the Hex Files convinced more than ever
that the conspiracy and her illness were anything but alien. That belief was challenged
once again after Mully witnessed the deaths of fellow abductees
and the prophecies of Cassandra Spencer (Prophecy Woman), beliefs which
led her to a similar apocalypse from which she only narrowly survived. Undergoing
hypnosis to find out what happened, she found herself closer than ever to believing
(The End of the Beginning)
It was the destruction of the Hex Files and the continued pressures of the FBI against
her which took their toll on Mully and
after being blamed for the bombing in Dallas she felt ready to quit forever. (The
Hex Files Movie) Once again, Sculder's resolve drove her on. Although still not
convinced of aliens, she could no longer deny to herself the nature of the conspiracy
and that the work had to continue. In the end, it was her insistence which reinstated
the same Hex Files project she was once sent to debunk.
Her experience in Antarctica has made her resilient. With a more aggressive attitude
and suspicions of her superiors she quickly developed a mis-trust for Danger Cowley's
sudden reappearance in Sculder's life and on the Hex Files. (The Beginning of the
End) When Cassandra Spencer reappeared, her suspicions about Cowley
appeared confirmed but Sculder refused to believe she would betray him. The end of
the Posh Club (Tomorrow's End) may have removed the greatest threat, but
Mully's suspicions against Cowley remained. Finally she proved the duplictity of Sculder's former ally (Life) but could not stop Sculder's desperate search for the truth which caused him to be abducted by the alien Colonists.
Alone and finally realising the truth behind Sculder's accusations after all these years, Mully resolved to trace the Colonists who abducted him and save him as he did once for her. Her efforts were hampered, though, by the extremley manly Agent Butch Doggy, (The Universe) the FBI task force leader assigned to find Sculder first. Persuing Sculder's trail to Arizona, Mully realised that although not being able to trust Doggy she had to at least work with his sceptic viewpoint to be able to discover the truth about Sculder. (Everything) With Doggy's re-assignment to the Hex Files, a new partnership has been formed to discover the truth, whatever it may be, and ultimately to find Sculder if he isn't already dead. Her new partnership has required Mully to sacrifice her usual scientific detachment and accept some of Sculder's more ludicrous leaps of the imagination in the face of Doggy's unbending scepticism. Which is even more vehment than her own ever was. However, after using some of Sculder's theories to solve her first Hex File with Doggy (Worst Episode Ever) Mully found peace with her changing world views. When the Colonist threat reached its final days and invasion seemed a certainty (Invasion Earth) Mully resolved to carry on Sculder's work and try to prevent it, despite having no means of defence against the aliens. Her resolve, though, was tested when it became clear she might be able to recover Sculder. She abandoned her duties as an FBI agent to travel to the location of Sculder's return. It was a choice which seemed right, but when Sculder seemingly made a deal with the Pipe Smoking Man to exchange mankind's survival for the location of his hamster, Mully felt he had betrayed everything they stood for. Enraged, she teamed up with Bicep and Marita to stop the Colonist threat themselves (Nothing Like the Truth) only to discover that Sculder had been protecting their interests all the time. Her faith in her partner restored, Mully resolved to carry on working with Sculder to fight against the Colonists as long as they were both able... X-Files Equivalent: Agent Dana Scully
