The Lone Ranger Fights On
As the second episode begins, we see that The Lone Ranger is
hanging on the edge of a cliff while attempting to reach Collins.
Collins has a rock raised over his head ready to throw it down
and crush the ranger when he loses his balance and falls to his
death on the canyon floor.
The Lone Ranger and Tonto climb back down off the cliff
and make plans to find a horse for the ranger to ride. They talk
about a valley where wild horses run and start to make their way
there.
As the ranger and Tonto arrive at the valley, they see a beautiful
silver stallion laying on the ground, about to be killed by a mad
buffalo. The Lone Ranger takes aim, fires and kills the
buffalo. Walking up to the injured horse, The Lone Ranger tells
Tonto how beautiful it is and he wants to nurse it back to health.
Time goes by and the horse is up and running around. "It's a
magnificent animal" the ranger tells Tonto. "It reflects like
Silver from the sun" Tonto says. "Silver" says the ranger, "that's
what we'll call him. Silver. Here Silver, come here big fellow."
The horse starts to run away but there's something in The Lone
Ranger's voice that draws him back and to the rangers side. The
Lone Ranger then begins the training process and soon, he's riding
Silver while Tonto rides his horse, Scout.
After this has been accomplished, the ranger tells Tonto it's time
to see an old friend of his named Jim Blaine who knows about a silver mine
that the Reid brothers owned and operated.
The Lone Ranger and Tonto ride up to the ranch where Jim
is living, only to see Butch Cavendish lurking in a
bush, shoot down a judge that is visiting the friend of the rangers.
Jim turns and fires at Cavendish, knocking the gun out
of his hand and wounding him in the shoulder. Meanwhile, another
Cavendish gang member, comes around from behind Jim and knocks
him out. The two outlaws flee as The Lone Ranger and Tonto ride up to the ranch.
Talking with Jim, the ranger discovers that the Cavendish gang has
plans to take over the nearby town of Colby. Many of the town
leaders have been killed and replaced by men loyal to Cavendish.
The ranger, Tonto and Jim ride to the old silver mine. There The
Lone Ranger asks Jim to work the mine for him so he and Tonto
will have spending money and then asks Jim for something unusual.
"Jim, I want you to make me silver bullets" the ranger says.
"Silver?" Jim asks. "Why in the world would you want silver
bullets?" The ranger explains that the silver bullets will be
a symbol of justice. "Say, that's a great idea" Jim says. "I
can make them right here in this mine."
The ranger then asks Tonto to ride into town and tell the sheriff what
happened. Tonto goes into town and brings the Sheriff back. Jim,
The Lone Ranger and Tonto explain what happened to the sheriff.
They agree to work together to capture the gang.
The Lone Ranger sends Tonto back to town to bring the sheriff's
assistant. While in town, Tonto sees two deputies sitting on
the sidewalk in front of the sheriff's office. They tell Tonto
they don't believe him and warn him to get out of town. What Tonto
doesn't know is that the two men he has just talked with are
secretly Cavendish gang members.
The Lone Ranger and the sheriff team up to find the Cavendish
gang hideout. They follow the trail left by the outlaws when they
ran from Jim Blaine's house after the shooting of the judge.
The ranger and sheriff come upon some wheel tracks. The sheriff
tells The Lone Ranger that they belong to the buggy owned by the
town doctor. The Lone Ranger and the sheriff don't know
that the Cavendish gang has kidnapped the doctor and forced him
to attend to Cavendish's wounds.
Soon, The Lone Ranger and sheriff spot the Cavendish hideout and
see the doctor treating Cavendish. The outlaw leader is boasting
about all the killing he has done and now he wants the doctor to
join the gang and be around to mend them when they're hurt.
While listening to all this, the sheriff's horse suddenly makes
a noise and Cavendish sends some of his men to investigate. The
Lone Ranger and sheriff are ready when the outlaw gang members
walk by and a fight ensues. The Lone Ranger and sheriff gain the
upper hand and prepare to march the men back to camp.
Not hearing anything from his men, Cavendish orders the doctor to
find out what happened. As soon as the doctor starts to leave,
The Lone Ranger comes around from behind Cavendish and shoots the
gun from Cavendish's hand.
Leaving the sheriff and town doctor to guard the outlaws, The
Lone Ranger walks over to Silver and suddenly hears the sound
of approaching riders. It's other members of the Cavendish gang
returning to the camp. The ranger tells Silver that they've got
to help the sheriff and the town doctor. He climbs onto Silver and, for the first
time, we hear those famous words "Hi-Yo Silver Away!"
