General HospitalLucky was lying on a hospital bed wearing a gown with an I.V. in the back of his hand. He had been admitted for observation after he had passed out, and he had been sleeping for about five hours. Luke was sitting next to his bed waiting for him to wake up so he could tell him what had happened.
As he began to regain consciousness he could feel his head pounding. He forget for a moment what was going on as he turned his head towards his father. The drawn look on Lukes' face made the last few days flash vividly through his mind. He sat up in the bed a little to quickly and immediately put his hands over his eyes, groaning loudly.
"Lucky relax! Your gonna be fine! Lye back down!" Luke said as he gently pushed his sons shoulders towards the pillow.
"Where's Elizabeth? Is she okay? What happened after I passed out?" Lucky was struggling with his father trying to get out of the bed. "TELL ME!" he screamed at him when he didn't get an answer.
"Keep your voice down!" Luke told him.
"Lucky?"
It was faint and hoarse, but Lucky would know Elizabeths' voice anywhere. He turned to his father who was smiling at him. Luke pulled the curtain back that was separating the two beds and when Luckys' eyes met Elizabeths' he jumped off his bed and collapsed on the floor.
"Lucky!" Elizabeth and Luke said together as Luke bent over to help him stand. "Take it easy!" he said worriedly to his son.
Lucky looked at Elizabeth, but spoke to his father, "I need to touch her. Please." He starting crying as Luke brought him closer to the edge of her bed. Her eyes were barely opened as she looked back at him with tears of her own. Her head was bandaged and she was hooked up to all the necessary machines. His fists were white as he gripped the rail on the side of the bed trying to keep himself from falling over. Luke wrapped his arms around him from behind to help him stand and Lucky slowly reached his hands out to touch her face. When they made contact with her soft skin he sobbed and slowly leaned in to kiss her lips. He laid his forehead gently against her cheek as they continued to cry softly. "I thought I was gonna lose you," he said through his tears.
Elizabeth smiled and cleared her throat to speak. "I thought I told you already that you're stuck with me," he pulled back and smiled at her, "Forever."
"Let's get you back to bed," Luke said after a moments silence. He helped Lucky get back on the bed and noticed that he and Elizabeth were silently yearning to touch as they stared at eachother. He started moving the furniture that was separating the two beds, pulling it to the other side of the room.
Lucky looked at his father like he was crazy. "Dad, what are you doing?"
When he had all the obstacles out of the way, he pushed Luckys' bed towards Elizabeths' and wiped his forehead with his hand, "I fought tooth and nail to get you guys in the same room together, but what's the point if you're a mile away from eachother? Phew that was hard work! I think I'll go get something cold to drink," he finished hurriedly and rushed out the door.
>>>>> As he shut the door behind him he stood still for a moment. He couldn't believe what he had just witnessed between his son and the woman he loved. ‘Love' he thought. The word didn't begin to describe what Lucky and Elizabeth shared. He had felt Luckys' soul come alive in his arms when he touched Elizabeths' face. He was still amazed as he walked to the cafeteria with a smile.
>>>>> Lucky slowly moved over on his bed and unhooked the safety latches on the rails separating them. They fell, and knowing her wound was on her right side and her left was closest to him, he inched slowly towards her and laid down on his side next to her. They never took their eyes off eachother as he took her hand and kissed it softly. He pulled his blanket up over him and they drifted into a peaceful sleep.
>>>>> Lu-Lu had quietly snuck into their room shortly after they had fallen back to sleep. She had crawled up on Luckys' bed, taking care not to wake them, and watched them for a while. She silently thanked God for not taking them away from her or her family and laid down next to her brother. She fell asleep cuddled into his back.
******************************* Nicolas, Angela, Luke, and Laura were taking in the sight before their eyes when they entered the room a few hours later. They were smiling broadly, staring at the three of them, when Lucky woke up.
"What's going on?" he asked softly not wanting to wake Elizabeth. When he went to turn over he felt someone beside him and he smiled when he saw it was his baby sister.
Luke walked over to the bed and carefully picked Lu-Lu up in his arms. Laura went over to Elizabeth, and Lucky watched as she stroked her cheek softly. He reached up to wipe a stray tear from his mothers cheek and she smiled at him.
"We just wanted to say good-night before we went home," she whispered.
Lucky waved as he watched them leave. When he looked back at Elizabeth her eyes began to slowly open. "Hey," he said softly as she focused her eyes on him. He noticed her struggle to speak and got worried. He sat up quickly and searched her face, "Are you okay?"
She nodded towards him, "I'm just a little dry. Can you..."
Lucky was already reaching for the jug next to his bed and pouring her a glass of water. "Here," he said tipping the glass slightly so she could suck on the straw. After she had taken a couple of sips she let her head relax on her pillow.
"Is that better? Did you want something else? I could go..."
She placed her fingers over his mouth stopping him from losing his mind with worry. "I'm fine," she said softly. "I only need one thing right now?"
Lucky was worried again, "What? Name it!"
"I need you to kiss me," she put her fingers on her lips and then his, "Right there."
Luckys' eyes filled with tears as he leaned in and slowly began to kiss her. They kissed softly for a long time enjoying the feel of the others lips and tongue against their own.
Elizabeth pulled back a little from him and looked deep in his eyes, "I can't wait for you to make love to me again. I need you to make my body feel alive instead of useless and painful."
Lucky touched her face with his hand and stroked her cheek with his thumb. "I will. I promise." He leaned in and kissed her one more time before they fell back to sleep.
******************************* Tuesday, June 9 TH, 2007
Lucky was dressed and sitting in the chair watching Elizabeth sleep. He had been released from the hospital a little while ago with a clean bill of health, but he wasn't happy about it. He wanted to spend every second, asleep or awake, with Elizabeth. His Aunt Amy had assured him that she would allow him to sneak into her room after visiting hours were over, but it wasn't enough. The doctors had told him that the reason for the extent of Elizabeths' injuries was because of the particular bullet that was used. It was such that once it entered the victim it literally exploded and did much more damage to the tissue. They were used by "High Class" criminals mostly, but if you knew the right people it was easy to obtain some. This had scared him to death and made him even more determined to protect her. If that was even possible. He had just gotten off the phone with Jason and they had discussed getting tighter security, after telling him he would take him up on his offer to manage the coffee company. He told him that he would start after the cops found Rick Benson and Elizabeth was well. Jason had made him promise that if he decided he wanted out at any point that he would quit, and he had agreed. He was planning to attend university courses at night for computers when he had saved enough money, so that he could pursue his real talent. He knew a lot about them, but he also knew that without a degree it would be hard to get in the corporate door. He had decided all this as he watched Elizabeth sleep last night. He had gently placed his head on her chest feeling it rise and fall as she took each breath and listened to the sound of her heart beating in a slow steady rhythm. He knew how close he had come to never feeling or hearing it again, and he vowed to God that she would always be happy. He would give his life for it.
Elizabeth awoke to a kiss on her lips. "Hi," she whispered sleepily.
Lucky picked up her hand and held it gently in his own. He took a deep open mouthed breath and looked lovingly at her. "Hi. How do you feel this morning?"
Elizabeth smiled at him, "Better." She tried to sit up on the bed, but the pain in her side from the bullet wound prevented her.
Lucky watched her face squeeze from the pain and quickly got up. "It's okay, let me help you." He gently moved her up on the bed and used the remote to elevate it. "There." He noticed that she still looked like she was hurting, "Do you need the doctor?"
Elizabeths' face relaxed as the pain subsided and she smiled at him again, "I'm fine. I see you're doing well yourself." She looked him up and down seeing he was dressed.
"Yeah, so it seems," he said smiling at her.
"Are you going back to your parents?" she asked him slowly.
He placed his hand on the side of her face, "No. I'm staying right here with you and when you get released I'm going home with you." She smiled gently at him. "Elizabeth, why did you follow us? I mean, you could have died, or Faison could have taken you from me or..." she stopped him by placing her fingertips to his lips.
A single tear slipped from her eye, "I was so afraid that you were gonna get hurt and that I would lose you forever. I can't live without you again. I would rather die, than live another day without you. Don't you understand?"
Lucky closed his eyes and kissed her fingers. "I do understand. I feel the same way," he opened his eyes, "but you almost died and left me here alone. I don't know what I would've done if..." he couldn't finish as he was overwhelmed with emotion.
"Lucky, it's okay. I'm fine, you're fine. It's okay." She was stroking his face, gently wiping at his tears.
"I just... I love you so completely... so deeply,..." he reached out and cradled her face in his hands as he continued, "you are the air I breathe, the most important person in my life. I don't ever want to lose you."
"You won't," she said matter-of-factly. "Not ever."
He smiled and leaned down, kissing her full on the mouth. "I have some important news," he said as he sat back down and looked at her.
"What is it?"
He was still holding her hand and he kissed it before he began. "I was talking to Jason earlier and..." He told her of the plans he had made.
