An Impossible Love - Chapter 11

by: Elisa

Lucky entered his house, his mind still on Elizabeth. He trudged up the stairs and frowned. The way she was acting earlier scared him. Vampires weren't scared of anything, at least as far as he knew. Who was the 'they' that she was so afraid of, and why would they kill them, just because they loved eachother? That's some crazy law. He opened the door to his room and heard a soft ringing deep in his dresser drawer. Hurridly, he closed the door to his room and dug it out.

"Ow!" He pulled out his hand and grimanced. Something had pricked him. Fumbling around with his other hand, he finally found the phone and answered it. "Hello?"

"Lucky! What took you so long?"

"Hey, Frisco. I, um, had to make sure no one was around." He lied, not wanting to tell him how much he wanted to forget SAF and live a normal life.

"I have some news. I just had a vampire sighting. I need to see you right away. I'm at the corner of Fifth and Main. I'm tailing the suspect right now, but it seemed to have stopped for the moment. Follow my signal on your radar. I called for back up, they should be here shortly. Frisco out."

"Damn!" Lucky wanted to throw his phone down and stomp on it until it was no more than a pile of dust. Reaching into his drawer again, he stabbed his hand with a metal object. Heaving a huge sigh, he shoved aside the clothes and raised his eyebrows. Slowly he picked up the rose pin, gently feeling the course surface with his thumb. This is why he felt such a strange attraction to the other pin. It reminded him of the one he had.

The phone beeped in his hand, reminding him of his job. He stuffed the pin in his jeans pocket and hurried out of his room. He ran down the steps and swung open the front door, almost colliding with the person on the other side.

"Sorry." Lucky said, shaking his head. "I'm kinda in a hurry. Who are you looking for?"

"I'm here for Lulu."

"Oh." Distracted, he called into the house, "Lulu, someone here to see you!" Turning, he brushed past him, "I have to go." Without waiting for a response, Lucky disappeared around the corner.

Lulu came out of the kitchen, holding a glass of water. "Darren!" She set the glass on the table and went over to give him a hug. Surprised at her boldness, she stepped away from him and smiled sheepishly. "I wasn't expecting to see you so soon."

"Yeah, I wasn't busy so . . ." His voice trailed off, still rattled from the impulsive hug. "Are you ready to go?"

"Uh huh." She grabbed her purse and jacket and followed him out the door. "Wasn't Lucky just here?"

"Yeah, he said he was in a hurry, so he took off."

"Huh." She wondered what was so important that he had to take off so quickly.

~~~
A strange sensation prickled at the base of her spine. She stopped and listened, using all of her senses. She was being followed, she could hear the footsteps about a block behind her. It would be easy to lose him, but she was curious. She had been living recklessly lately, perhaps it was the knowledge of her impending demise that made her act so irrational. She altered course and headed for the park. The trees and minimal light would be to her advantage if something should occur. Whoever was following her was human, she wasn't worried.
She could see the trees off in the distance, but did not rush her steps. She scanned the area and heard nothing out of the ordinary, the leaves rustling in the breeze, the little creatures that lived there, late night joggers. As soon as she entered the park, she shot up into a tree. Hiding in the branches, she waited patiently for the person to appear.
~~~

Frisco watched as she vanished into the park. He didn't know if she detected him yet, but it was better to wait until reinforcments before he made a move. He glanced at his watch, they should be here shortly. He saw a car round the corner which he recognized. His men were inside, he strode over to them, and inclined his head to the park. He did not want to speak, he feared that she could hear him. He wasn't sure what her hearing range was, so he had to be careful. They nodded and drove off. In a few minutes, his men would surround the area and the creature would be captured.

Behind him, Jim strolled up, carrying a tranqulizer gun. Frisco took it and slipped it in his pocket. Seeing the expression on his comrade's face, he knew that his men were in place. He couldn't wait for Lucky any longer, they had to capture this creature, she was a danger to society. He crossed the street and entered the park alone.

~~~
A man watched the drama that was going to unfold in front of him and he smiled. Things were falling into place. He could feel Lucky coming, whether he knew of the situation or not, it didn't matter. The stage was set for the last chapter of this story. He leaned back against the window, the breeze ruffling his soft dark hair. His feet dangled over the street. He supposed it was dangerous to sit so high above the ground, but the view from here was perfect to observe the scene that was about to happen.
He saw the leader of the group enter the park, alone. He was either a very brave man or a foolish one.
~~~

Frisco didn't know what was going to happen. It was dark and the park was practically deserted. He didn't want to pull out his gun, but he didn't want to be unarmed either. In his experience it was better to seem defenseless than to go all out commando. The branches above him rustled, several leaves floated to the ground in front of him. He stopped and glanced up, his senses alert. There was something up there, he could feel it watching him. Relaxing his muscles, he leaned lazily against the tree. He knew that his men would come instantly if it decided to attack. "I know you're up there." He said casually, as if he encountered strange creatures hiding in trees on a daily basis.

Liz jumped down, landing several feet in front of him. She regarded him with interest, he was tall, almost as tall as Lucky. His blonde hair was tied back into a loose ponytail and his eyes seemed to peirce through her. Until she came to Port Charles she never met so many people who knew what she was. She remained silent, but she was well aware that there was more people in the area than before. A small trickle of fear shot through her, but she discarded it immediatly. They were only human, afterall. She could outrun them if it proved necessary. But first she needed to know what he wanted.

He stepped away from the tree, a little wary of what she could do. She was small, with eyes that must sparkle in the sun, if she could go out into the sunlight. His eyes were drawn to the pin that she had on her shirt, he had seen it somewhere else before, but could not place it.

"Who are you?" She asked, narrowing her eyes.

"No one important." He replied.

She shuffled her feet, moving slightly to the left. She heard people moving behind her, but she kept her cool. The situation was getting tricky.

If her hearing was correct, she could distingish eight different breathing patterns. They were armed, she could hear the metal scratching against their clothes.

"That can't be true." She began to move slowly, as to not cause him alarm. She went to stand next to a tree, leaning her back against it.

"But it is. I'm no one of importance," He insisted, "However, you seem to be."

"Why?"

He smiled coldly, "Can't you guess?"

"I can't imagine why."

"You'll see when you get there."

"Get where?"

"Where you're going." He reached for his pocket to pull out the gun. Taking aim, he pressed the trigger. The dart flew harmlessly into the tree.

He blinked, she was no longer in his line of vision. Damn! He knew he should've moved faster, now she was gone. Where was his men? Why haven't they done anything? He looked around frantically. "Beta team! Are you there?" Silence greeted his call.

"Your men will not be able to help you."

He spun around, and swallowed hard. She had changed form. "What have you done with them?"

"Since you are no one of importance, I don't think you really have to know." She said wickedly, her eyes glittering with glee, "But since I am a kind soul, I will give you this." She reached behind her and threw one of his men on the ground. He was dead. Frisco did not need to get a closer look to know. The man's head was missing. His fingers lossened on the gun and it fell from his hands. He closed his eyes, fighting the bile that was threatening to come. "Perhaps now, you will be more cooperative with your answers."

~~~
Darren pulled out his keys and opened the front door. Pushing open the door, he stepped back to let Lulu in first. Balancing a stack of movies in his arms, he carefully made his way in.
"Hey son, do you need any help?"
Startled, he let out a yelp as he felt the tapes fall from his grasp. They hit the carpet with a dull thud. One of the tapes hit his foot and he jumped back in pain. Lulu rushed over and held onto his arm as he hopped on one foot. "I think I got it, dad."
Mr. Jackson chuckled and shook his head, "If you say so, son." He smiled over at Lulu, "Hello, Lulu, how are you?"
"I'm fine, Mr. Jackson, obviously doing a lot better than Darren." She joked.
Darren's dad laughed, "Don't turn the tv too loud, okay? Your mother and I are heading up to bed." He walked up the steps, shaking his head with laughter. Darren was so much more amusing when he was dating.
Darren sighed, "I think he's laughing at me."
"No he isn't." She turned her head away, hiding a smile of her own.
"You're laughing at me too."
"Moi? Laugh at you? That would never happen." She gave him an innocent look.
He hobbled over to the couch and plopped down. "Lulu, you wound me." He exclaimed melodramatically. "Here I am, an injured man and you laugh at me."
Lulu shook her head and sat next to him, she threaded her arm through his, and smiled, blinking angelicly.
"Oh don't give me the doe-eyed look. It's not going to work." He stared into her warm brown eyes, suddenly very aware of how close they were. He cleared his throat, uncomfortably. "So which movie do you want to watch first?"
"I don't know." She got up and picked up the movies. She brought them to the coffee table and set them down. "You can pick." Lulu sat down and smiled at him.
"Okay." He leaned over and selected a tape, he didn't bother to look at it as he slipped it into the vcr. "Do you want something to drink?"
"Sure, but I can get it myself, being that you're injured and all." She grinned, standing up.
"Funny, very funny." He grimanced, grabbing a hold of her hand and pulling her closer to him.
"I'd like to think so." She slipped her other arm around his neck and smiled. He wrapped his arm around her waist, and returned her smile. Suddenly a loud explosion sounded behind them on the tv and Lulu jumped. Darren chuckled and pulled her onto his lap. She settled comfortably and grinned sheepishly, "It just startled me."
He tightened his hold around her and moved his head closer. "Me too." He whispered.
"Mmm." His face was coming closer to her and she was having trouble thinking clearly. Their lips brushed and Lulu felt a tingle of excitement go down her spine. She moved closer to him and he deepened the kiss. They were so caught up in eachother that they didn't hear the front door open.
"Whoa!" Cindy exclaimed and instantly turned around, shoving her sisters back out the door. Things were moving faster than she had expected, but it seemed to be working out. Lulu was just what Darren needed and vice versa. She couldn't be any happier.
~~~

She didn't kill all of his men, in fact she only hurt this one by accident. He had made the mistake of sticking a gun in her face. She wasn't expecting it and had lashed out. She supposed that she exerted too much force, she only meant to knock the gun away, but instead she ended up taking away the man's head. As soon as the blood started flying, the other men ran away in horror. Some army commandos they turned out to be.

She studied the leader, wondering what must be going through his mind right now. She could tell that he was resisting the urge to throw up, his face was turning a faint shade of green. "What do you want to know?" He tore his eyes away from the body and rested them on Liz.

"How do you know about me?"

"Experience."

"Then it's true that is a government organization that is out to capture us?"

"Yes. But it's not common knowledge."

She took a couple of steps closer to him, oblivious of the fact that she was standing in a pool of blood. "You seem convinced that you could handle me. Why?"

"Weapons. I am not foolish enough to believe that I could over power you in a physical fight."

"Yet, here you are, alone with me, ready to challenge me."

"I did not say that I was going to challenge you."

She smiled, her eyes turning a deeper shade of blue. "But you are. I can see it in your stance, your posture. You getting ready to attack."

"And if I am?"

"You would not be successful." She stated.

He said nothing, his face expressionless.

"You said earilier that you were going to take me somewhere."

He nodded.

"Where?"

"I can not say."

"The hell you can't." She took another step closer, but Frisco remained where he was. He would not show fear, he could not. He stared at her, his gaze unblinking. "Damn you, I will make you tell me." She lunged at him, knocking him over. They landed on the grass, she pinned him to the ground. Her hands tightly clasped around his throat, she let the power of her gaze affect him. She did not realize the power of her gaze until she was ten. She was in some sort of garden, she remembered that there were lots of roses. She had stared at one and after a while the flower began to wither. As she grew older she used to the power of her gaze to get what she wanted. "Tell me where you were to take me."

Beads of sweat formed on Frisco's forehead, it was taking all his will power to tear his gaze from hers.

"You have a strong will, human. I am impressed." She jumped off him and smiled maliciously. "As I said before, I am a kind soul, perhaps we can strike a deal?"

"What kind of deal?" Frisco gasped, sucking in air. His hand brushed against something cold. With a start, he realized that it was his gun.

"You and I will have a duel. If I win, I will get all of my answers truthfully."

"And if I win?" He asked, his fingers curling around the gun.

"I shall let you live."

He just needed a second, a fraction of a second to distract her . . .

"Frisco! Wait!" Lucky called, crashing through the bushes. Liz spun around, a look of amazement crossed her face as she saw him.

It was all the time that he needed. Quickly, he raised his arm and fired. He hit his target.

A flash of pain bit into her arm. Liz looked down to see a dart proding from her arm. Her eyes widened as she looked up at Lucky, finally understanding how he knew about vampires, "You're one of them." She whispered, before the world turned black.
