Memories Revisited - Chapter 3

by: Amber

The limo arrived at Audrey's house and Daniel and Liz got out. Liz looked up at the house and her eyes were set on her old bedroom window. She could almost see Lucky going into the window.

Liz was brought back to reality by Daniel's grunting. "Look at this dump, it should be knocked down."

Liz decided to ignore that comment and they entered the house. As soon as she walked in, many memories hit Liz. She could still feel Audrey in the house and in a small way that gave her comfort.

Daniel was already on the phone with Realtors to put the house up for sale and Liz managed to sneak up to her old bedroom. When she entered the room for a second she thought she saw Lucky sitting on her bed waiting for her, but he quickly disappeared. Liz sat down on her bed and then collapsed on it. Tears spilled down from her eyes as she gripped the pillow. "Oh god Lucky, I need you so much."

The door to the bedroom abruptly opened, Liz quickly sat up as her tear stricken eyes met Daniel's cold eyes. "Well now, what is the little baby crying about now?"

"Leave me alone." Liz lay back down on the bed. She was shocked when Daniel left the room, but she knew that would not last.

A short time later Liz went back downstairs to find Daniel asleep on the couch. Liz quickly grabbed her coat and purse and walked out the door. Once she was outside she sighed, thankful she could get away if even for a short while.

Liz just walked around her former hometown surprised that not much had changed. She found herself sitting on the docks looking out onto the water just remembering happier times.

Lucky had gotten some food from Kelly's and decided to head home. He was walking along the docks when he noticed someone sitting on the bench. He looked closer and his heart sank when he realized it was Elizabeth. For a minute he just stood there taking in her beauty, she was stunning. Lucky decided it was now or never. He walked down the steps and approached Liz.

"Elizabeth."

Liz was startled by her name being called and when she looked up she did not expect to see the pair of deep blue eyes she had missed so much looking back at her.

"Lucky?"

Liz stood up from the bench and she and Lucky locked eyes. There was a moment of silence and they looked each other over.

Lucky was in awe of her beauty, over the years she got so much more beautiful. Lucky cleared his throat and finally spoke. "I heard you were coming back to town, I'm sorry about your grandmother."

"Thank you." was all Liz could think to say. She would often play in her mind what she would say to him the next time she saw him, but it was all forgotten. "So…..um….how are you doing."

"I'm good and you." That sounded so dumb, Lucky thought to himself. Her grandmother just died how do you think she is doing.

"I'm as good as can be expected. Do you…..want to sit down?'

"Sure." Lucky set his bag down and sat down on the bench next to Liz. "So are you here with your family?"

Liz looked at Lucky and then looked away. "I'm here with my….husband, the children are home."

"I see." Lucky ran his fingers threw his hair and Liz knew that meant he was nervous. "I heard you got married, and your children, are they okay?

"My children…..they're fine." Liz felt herself begin to cry, but choked them back as best she could. "How….are you doing? My grandmother told me you got married a few years ago, how's your wife.?

"Oh I'm not married anymore, we divorced about two years ago."

"I'm so sorry" Liz was mad at herself for being relieved that lucky was not married anymore, she wished she was just as Lucky. "Do you have any children of your own?"

"Yes I do, I have a daughter Lauren, she's seven."

"And I bet she's daddy's little girl?" Liz said with a smile.

"yeah she is." Lucky also smiled and laughed, she still knew him.

They both laughed and then fell silent once again. "I missed your laugh, you look beautiful Elizabeth. Even after all these years, you're still so beautiful."

Liz was silent, she for sure did not feel beautiful, but hearing Lucky say that to her made her feel warm inside her cold body. Lucky knew this might be his only chance to talk to her so he just went for it. "Listen Elizabeth we need to talk."

"About what?''

"About everything, about how things were left between us."

"Lucky, it's been 15 years, what else is there to say?"

"A lot, look can we just go somewhere and talk?"

As much as Liz wanted t go anywhere with him she knew she couldn't because if her children. "I can't not now, maybe another time. I have to get back before Daniel starts to worry."

"Oh okay, well another time then." Liz and Lucky got up from the bench and for the first time the moonlight shinned on Liz's face. Lucky was startled by what he saw. "Elizabeth what happened?'' He brought his hand up to her cheek where her most recent bruise was.

"Ow!" As soon as Lucky touched her, Liz whined in pain. "It's nothing."

"It does not look like nothing." Lucky got scared, what was she hiding? "How did you get this bruise Elizabeth?"

"It does not matter how I got it, don't worry about it, don't worry about me. I'll be fine."

Lucky knew she was not fine. "Did you husband do this to you?"

Before Liz could answer him, they were interrupted by Daniel coming down the steps. "Well now, what do we have here?"

"Daniel, I was just taking a walk." Liz was scared, she did not know what Daniel was going to do.

Daniel approached Liz and Lucky and extended his hand. "I don't believe we have met, I'm Liz's husband Daniel Mansfield."

Lucky took his hand, there was something about this guy that did not sit well with him. "Lucky Spencer."

"Lucky Spencer?" Liz could see the rage in Daniel's eyes. "So you're Lucky, well it is so nice to meet you. Liz has told me about you."

"She has?" Lucky already knew he did not like him.

"Well I'm sure you'll understand, but Liz and I do have to be going home. It was nice meeting you."

Lucky could tell Liz was scared, but he did not know what to do. "yeah you too, good bye Elizabeth"

Liz did not want to say good bye to Lucky but she knew she had to make Daniel happy. "Good bye Lucky." Her voice was shaky and full of fear. Daniel grabbed a hold of Liz's arm and pulled her up the steps.

Lucky knew Liz was in trouble and the bruise defiantly came from Daniel, but what could he do? He knew he had to think of something before it was too late.
