Some Things Never Change - Chapter 11

by: Jess

"Dad? I uh…"

Luke was still standing there. Finally he said, "Pinch me Roy. Cause if this ain't true, if my boy isn't standing here in front of me, if I am seeing things…"

"Dad? Dad stop. I'm here. I'm not dead okay?"

"Your not seeing things man." Said Roy silently watching his friend. He knew how much Luke went through after Lucky 'died' his friend had told him himself. Bobbie had told him how he started drinking to much and held everything inside.

Luke took a slow step towards Lucky. Then he walked towards him quicker. Lucky walked towards him to. Within three seconds Luke was holding his son in his arms and they were both crying. "I'm sorry dad."

Luke looked at him, "I…I saw the body. The match…it matched. And your subway token was on…How did this happen? I never thought I'd see you again." He pulled Lucky back to him and hugged him again.

Lucky took a deep breath and pulled away from his father. "The match was tampered with. It was to make everyone think I was dead. They took my necklace…they ripped it off my neck…I tried to get away dad I did. I used everything I had but it wasn't enough. For weeks, months even I tried to escape. I got close a few times but I couldn't… I was stuck there."

"Cowboy slow down there. Who is they? Where were you stuck."

Lucky took a deep breath. "You should sit down."

Roy had stood back and watched the father son reunion. He wanted to know what happened to the boy, but he didn't want to intrude. He turned and started to leave. "Roy? Will you stay please? I um…I don't want to keep reliving this. I don't want to have to say it to every person I see. If I tell you both now I won't have to say it so many times. You could tell Aunt Bobbie."

"Stay Roy. Come in and pull up a seat." Said Luke. He went behind his desk and poured himself a glass of brandy. Roy and Lucky both sat down.

"That night…I walked Elizabeth home, then I went home. I couldn't sleep so I started to read my notes for the test I was having. I called Liz, talked to her. After…after I hung up I was looking at the candles she had bought for when she was over. I had lit them up when I was on the phone with her. I…I guess I fell asleep cause a little while later I heard a pounding noise. I jumped up and hid behind the door. Next thing I know I have two guys climbing in my window and another coming out of the bathroom and then one kicked the door open. They all came at me and I kicked and punched and fought as hard as I could. That's all I remember. The next thing I know I was waking up in a room made of steal. I had a headache so they must have hit me or something."

"Who Lucky?"

"I didn't believe it dad. Cause he was dead. You said so yourself, but then the door opened. I asked him who he was. Caesar Faison. He's alive dad, well he was. I told him that whatever he was planning wouldn't work, I told him that you would find me. So he told me I was dead. He told me about the fire. I said that it still wouldn't work cause my body wouldn't be there and mom has a sense about these things, then he told me about the body and how he fixed the records. It was like…I was dead. No one would look for me cause they didn't know I needed to be looked for. He said something about Elizabeth and I went straight for his throat. Dad he said you were doing business with him."

"I was. I didn't know who he was. Then I found out and started playing games with him. He almost killed me and Felicia Scorpio. I was going to kill him Cowboy. Then suddenly he was dead. I didn't do it. We don't know who did. Whoever did pumped him full of drugs. But this was two years ago. We're have you been since then?"

"He'd been gone for like three months. That was strange cause he usually only stayed away a few weeks. He used to play chess with me. If I could beat him I could ask a question. There was a computer in my room. I opened the mechanical door so many times with it. But I could never get far enough out of the building. Anyway one day the door opens and I expect to see him but I didn't. Dad it was…" Lucky couldn't breath. He had hated being in that cell when Faison was in charge but it was ten times worse when she came into the picture. "It was Helena." He said quietly.

Luke's eyes widened. She wouldn't dare do this. But she did. "Helena? You're sure Lucky? Did she say why? Did she say how she knew Faison."

"Dad it was her plan. Faison was just her ally. She said she was going to use me when it suited her needs. She said it was payback for Stavros's death. She was… Oh God. Dad the things she said…the things she did."

"What did she do you to you Cowboy?"

"First I have to ask you something. Was Elizabeth…was she hurt…did she get beat, or raped after I left?"

"No! Cowboy nobody touched her. Why would you ask that?"

"She showed me pictures. I knew from the ones of mom that she could have had them doctored but all these years I wasn't sure dad. I thought it happened. She told me every time I tried to escape Liz would be hurt. When I…talked back to or her did something she didn't like…they beat the hell out of me. Dad I didn't quit I need you to know that. I never quit. Every time they hit me I hit back. But I couldn't leave."

"How did you?"

"One of the new guards let me convince him to let me go. I knew I could be putting Liz in danger but I'm was okay for a week or two. That's how long she usually stays away. We locked all the other guards in my room. Dad you have to protect Elizabeth. She knows how much I love her and she'll use that against me just like Stavros did to you with mom."

"Cowboy nothing is going to happen to Liz, and Helena will never touch you again. God this is still hard to believe seeing you…here." Luke was trying to ingest it all. His boy had been beaten and threatened for the last three years.

"Dad don't tell mom that they hit me. Don't tell her they did that. It'll hurt her."

"I don't keep things from her anymore Lucky. We agreed on that when we got back together. I have to tell her and I'm sure you understand that."

Lucky looked at his dad. Things really had changed. "Okay. How is…um Lulu?"

"Lucky I already told you how your sister was in the truck. Ask him what you really want to know." replied Roy talking for the first time. He dreaded telling Bobbie all this.

"Wait first how did you find Roy? And how did you know it was okay to talk to him?"

"He didn't find me. I found him. I almost hit him with my truck. When I saw his face I noticed him from your mantel."

"How did you know to trust Roy?"

"He told me his name. I knew a friend of yours wouldn't hurt me. Dad I have to tell you something, It's about what you said…at my memorial service."

"You saw that?"

"Yeah. Helena made me watch it. You said that your adulthood had come at the price of mine. That isn't true. Dad when I left home I was angry and I thought I hated you. I didn't. I hated what you did, it hurt because I had you as the perfect man in my head and all of a sudden you weren't anymore. I didn't know how to deal with that. But eventually I did, I know that growing up you guys loved each other. What I did was wrong, it was wrong and it was selfish, but dad I don't regret it. It brought me closer to Elizabeth. But it wasn't your fault. My uh death wasn't your fault. It was Helena Cassidines."

"Thank you Lucky. Didn't I tell you I had one hell of a kid Roy?"

"Yeah man you did. And you do."

Lucky picked up the picture of Elizabeth. He looked at it for a second knowing he was being watched. "Is she okay?"

"She misses you still. But she's good."

Lucky put it down and lifted up the baby photo. "I don't recognize this one. Did mom just find it or something?" Luke looked at him in a strange way. "What? It's me right? Either that or you guys had another kid."

"Lucky after you left Liz was crushed. I think in her own way she wanted to die. She moved out of Audrey's and into Kelly's. Everyone was worried about her. She got to be friends with Jason Morgan. He saw her at Jake's one night and she was picking up guys. He stopped her. She'd done it to try and forget you. They talked at Jake's, and they related to each other. Jason was in pain from losing Michael, and Carly getting married, and she was in pain for you. They were only friends though nothing more. Jason took her for rides on his bike and when she didn't want to go home to her empty room she stayed in his guestroom. Five months after the fire she left town. For four months no one but Jason, Sonny, and Carly knew where she was. She made them promise not to tell. We all wrote her letters but she never wrote back and she never called. She'd wanted to be alone. The day Jason told us that she left he also told us…"

"What Dad? Told you what?"

"When Liz came home after four months it was to baptize her child. Your child."
