Some Things Never Change - Chapter 5

by: Jess

Lucky had been blindfolded while he was led to Helena's room. There were two huge guards so he knew this would not be his time to escape. Helena had put the tape on right away. Lucky had sat there and watched as his family gathered at the church. That was his and Elizabeth's church. Just seeing her in it made the tears fall. He saw his father tell Nikolas that he had a right to be there and then his parents hug. There were so many people there. He listened as his father told Liz that he'd always be there for her, then as Liz told him Lucky had loved him as much two days ago as he did last time Luke carried him on his shoulders. Lucky silently thanked her for that. She was always so caring and think of others. His mother gave a tearful eulogy, he cried at the pain on her face. Then Liz was up there and he held his breath wondering what she would say.

"Hi. Laura asked if I wanted to say anything and I do. If I can just figure out how. I feel so lucky to be the girl he loved. I guess what I wanted to tell you was Lucky saved my life. If you know me you know I'm not exaggerating or trying to sound poetic. He literally picked me up off the ground from the snow and the ice, and took care of what hurt and watched over me at night. He took all my anger and bitterness and turned it into something shiny that I will always always have. And this is why it's not right that he's gone. Someone, who saves a life, should have an extra life. More time not less." It felt so good to hear her voice. But it broke his heart to see her so sad and no he can't do nothing about it.

Helena paused the tape and laughed, "Such a dramatic little girl isn't she? Well here comes Luke's. I never knew he was so deep." She laughed and played the tape again.

His father got up and thanked Elizabeth. He stood and looked around at all the people for a minute. Lucky knew that he must hate this, being in a church and talking in front of all those people. "They say, them that says things, that the child is the father of the man. I heard that all my life and I never paid much attention to it. Until Lucky became a teenager. No actually you know, the truth is he never was a teenager he went right into adulthood. It happened in one day. If there were any warnings I didn't see them coming. But just because it was fast it doesn't mean it was smooth it was painful. It was so painful for him. And it was the hardest thing I've ever done. Letting my boy be a man, at the same moment that my child was telling me that he hated me. And believe me I wouldn't a done it if I had known then that I was going to miss so much time with the son who was here so briefly. But at the end of the day he was a Spencer. And ah, we Spencer's we're connected. I am grateful, I am so grateful for my connection to Lucky. He taught me a lot. He taught me about things that I couldn't see and I only half believed in half the time. Things like honor and truth… and love. It would not have been my choice that my adulthood would come at the price of his." Lucky couldn't stop the tears. His father had cried. In front of all those people he had ears running down his face. His mother was sobbing and Nikolas was trying hard to help both her and Elizabeth. The camera showed all their faces. Helena must have had them everywhere and dubbed the tapes together. "How could you do this? You have no heart you bitch!"

She laughed at him. "You haven't seen nothing yet. Take a look at this."

Elizabeth was sitting on the pew in the front row of the church. Candles were lit and she was alone. She was looking at his picture and crying. Then she started to talk. "You have my heart, that's a permanent lock. Everything I am is in love with you. My mind my soul my body my spirit and that will never change. I pledge myself to you Lucky, today and forever." Then she started crying even more. Lucky watched her sitting there in the church. She had repeated the words he'd said to her on Valentine's Day. He was still crying, listening to all these people talk and say how much he meant to them and how much they love him it hurt. It hurt worse than anything. "What do you want from me?" he asked trying to calm the tears.

"It's not from you I want anything. I want what I've always wanted. Your father to pay for what he did to my Stavros."

The phone rang and woke Carly and Jason up. "It's the private line Jason."

"It's three in the morning Carly, it might be important." He leaned over and picked it up. "Morgan?"

"Jason?"

"Liz? What's wrong?"

"I promised Carly I'd call when I went into labor." That's all she got out before she screamed.

Maria took the phone, "Mr. Morgan? We are at the house. The doctor Mr. Corenthos set up for her is on the way."

"Thanks Maria. We'll get there as soon as we can." Jason hung up with a smile. Carly looked at him anxiously. "Elizabeth is in labor. Get our stuff together. I'll get Sonny to come sleep here with Michael and he can follow us there tomorrow. I don't want to wake Michael up."

Elizabeth was I pain. The baby was giving her a hard time. "Liz, calm down a little and don't push until the doctor says to okay." Said Carla. Carla and Maria were with her, Maria helping the doctor and Carla helping her.

"It hurts." She cried. The doctor told her to push and she did and a few seconds later she heard crying. "Oh."

"Congratulations Elizabeth you have a son." Maria cleaned the baby off and the doctor checked him out and then placed him in Liz's waiting arms.

He looked up at her, she knew he couldn't see her yet but she could see him. He was perfect. She looked into his eyes and started to cry. "Liz? What's wrong?" asked Carla.

"He has Lucky's eyes. They are so blue. Oh God. He is so perfect."

A little while later the Maria brought the papers in and Elizabeth signed them all. Her baby had a name.

Jason was mad. He had wanted to leave last night but there pilot couldn't fly them out do to a storm in Port Charles. They were all in the plane now but he wanted to be with his friend. He knew how much she probably needed him right now. "Jason honey relax. Liz will understand."

"Da see Libet?"

"Yeah Michael we're going to go see Elizabeth. Sonny should we call Luke?"

"No. Let Liz. It's up to her weather she comes home or stays at the island. They all love her there. Maria says she keeps Carla away from all the old guys with the money. What do you think she had?"

Liz was sitting in a rocking chair holding her son. After everyone had left her alone with him this morning she'd checked him out. He was the most precious baby in the world. She couldn't wait for everyone to get here. Paulo from the main island had called to say they were on their way almost a half-hour ago. That meant they'd be there soon.

Lucky looked around his new room. They had taken him out of the old place last night. They had driven a long time. Then they waited for dark blindfolded him and went into the new place. This one was not as technical as the other was. There weren't mechanical doors or any cameras that he could see. Helena had said that they'd only be here a short time. Maybe she thought he'd never try to leave. She thought wrong!

"Jason come on hurry walk faster."

Sonny and Jason laughed, "Carly you were the one telling him not to worry Liz would understand."

"Yeah well now we're here and I want to see my friend and her baby."

They walked into the house and a girl came up to them. "Can I help you? No one announced any visitors."

Maria came walking over. "Carla please. I'm sorry Mr. Corenthos. How are you? And you Mr. Morgan? And hello Michael."

Carly looked confused so Jason explained about coming to the island before. He introduced Carly and Maria called for a guy to take all their bags. "Carla will you please show Mr. Corenthos and his guests to Elizabeth's room. And don't stay, you've spent enough time with her today."

Liz looked up when the door opened hoping it was Carla again. The girl was a good friend but really starting to get on her nerves. She smiled when she saw Carly, Jason, Michael, and Sonny enter the room. "You made it."
