Chapter 4: Trouble

Robert seemed to find a way to get Jesse to spend her days with him for the couple. They were having a pretty good time, plus Jesse always came back home at 8 every night. Then one night something happened. Something bad.

Jesse was with Robert at his house. He said he had something to show her. They were standing at the bottom of the stair case.

"So. What is it you want to show me?"

"You know that upstairs tour I said was for later?"

"Yeah."

"Well, it's later." Robert smiled, then took Jesse's hand and lead her up the stairs.

"What's going on, Robert?"

"You'll see." He headed into the first door of the room they came to. He twirled Jesse into the room.

"Wow! This room is beautiful!"

"What about the bed?" Jesse went over to the unmade bed.

"Robert, is this real silk?"

"Yep. Lie down. Comfortable?" Jesse flipped onto the bed.

"You sleep this way every night?"

"Uh-huh. Except tonight's going to be a little different." Jesse heard a click and sat up in the bed.

"Robert, what was that sound?" He walked over to where she was sitting.

"Nothing. Just a little reassurance. Now, lie back down. We've got a tour to get to." Jesse tried to scoot farther back in the bed, away from Robert.

"Robert, wouldn't a tour contain going to the other rooms?" Robert leaned over towards her.

"Wrong tour, Jesse." He slid his hand along the bed til it hit hers, making her slide back.

"Robert, perhaps we shoudln't do this. In fact, I'm pretty sure we shouldn't do this." He started to climb onto the bed.

"Why not?"

"For starters, I have a boyfriend."

"And ten years ago you had a brother. Only this, he can't stop me." Jesse started to try and sit back up. Robert grabbed her shoulders and forced her down.

"Robert, stop. Robert, please, you're hurting me." She struggled hard against his grip, with no sign of loosening it. It seemed hopeless.

At the Quest compound, Jonny was getting worried. Jesse had never been this late before. He paced around in the living room.

"Something's wrong. Where is she?" Race laughed litely.

"Don't worry, Jonny. Jesse and Robert probably just lost track of time." Jonny looked at Jenny. She nodded.

"Race, there's something I need to tell you."

Jesse tried to get loose every time Robert seemed distracted by something like trying to get his shirt off. He slapped her.

"Jesse, stop fighting. I don't want to hurt you, but you're making this so difficult. Just relax. Once you feel how wonderful it is, you'll start to feel the way I do. Trust me."

"Robert, I trusted you to have a good soul, which I shouldn't have done. Do you really think I'm gonna trust you now?" He reached back to slap her as he took off his belt. Before he could, they both heard a loud screech outside as a car came to a stop. Jesse smiled. Robert grimaced, then smiled evilly. He pushed Jesse down hard and walked towards a desk in the corner near the door. "What are you doing?" Jesse couldn't bring herself to sit up from the pain that Robert had caused her. Robert reached into a drawer, then pulled out a gun as they heard the sound of a door crashing down.

"You were taken from me once. It's not gonna happen again." He aimed at the shouts coming from the stairs.

"Race, there's a door at the top of the stairs. She might be in there."

"Then check it out." A loud thump hit the door.

"It's locked. Jesse! Jesse, are you in there?!" Before Jesse could respond, Robert lowered the gun to the point in the door where the voice had come from. Everything happened in slow-motion. Robert started to pull the trigger as the door flew open from the force of an extremely strong pull. Jonny saw the gun, and Jesse jumped up and ran to stop Robert.

"No!! I lost Jacob to a gun, I won't lose Jonny!" She rammed into Robert as the gun went off. The bullet went into the frame above the door. There was confusion for a moment as Jonny disarmed Robert, but was unsuccessful in stopping him from getting away. Unable to stop him, everyone heard his car squeal away through the night. Jesse ran to Jonny, crying. "I'm sorry, Jonny. I'm so sorry." Jonny hugged her tightly.

"You have nothing to be sorry for. You didn't do anything. And you couldn't have known what Robert was really like. Come on. Let's go home."
