YRU-Up, One Man's ViewTo Dave: | ![]() |
Dear Reader.
Today I’d like to dedicate this column to someone. On December 6th, my Uncle Dave Ryan passed away. He lost his battle with prostate cancer, and is now, we all hope, in a better place. I can’t say that we had been very close, but I was able to visit him in his last days. A visit that meant a great deal to me, and changed me very profoundly. These words don’t come easy.
I think we all run a grand race. Running through time, filling it, and touching what we can. And at the finish, the reward comes to us, and we figure out what all the running was for. I hope I can look back on my time and say it was the greatest life I could have ever lived. And shed only tears of joy at what came before me. As I touch the infinite and mingle with the stars.
So to Dave, I say I love you, and we miss you on this earth. I know you’re with me now as I write this. I want you to know your race was worth running. Though you finished too soon, you still live with me. And I pray that I someday find the peace that you now know. You fought the good fight. Goodbye Dave.
