Table of Contents

Ivan's Life

  1. What is Ivan's full name?
Ivan's full name is Ivan Peter Dudynsky.
  2. That's an interesting name. What's its nation of origin?
Ivan says himself that he is "100% Ukrainian."
  3. What do Ivan's friends call him?
We have it from a reliable source that his nickname is Dutch.
  4. Now wait a second. Isn't his character name in "Newsies" Dutchy? Which came first, the character or the nickname?
We think the nickname, but your guess is as good as ours.
  5. How old is Ivan?
Ivan was born on November 20, 1970.
  6. So where's he from then?
Ivan hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jess, the Montanan, assures the rest of the Triumvirate that such good looks are atypical of the midwest.
  7. How tall is Ivan?
Ivan is five feet, nine and a half inches tall.
  8. What does he like to do in his spare time?
Ivan enjoys soccer, photography, drawing, and motorcycling.
  9. I thought I saw Ivan showing off a tattoo in a Roundhouse episode. Does he have one?
    Yup.
  10. Don't toy with me so. What is it and where is it?
Ivan's tattoo, on his left bicep, depicts the Ukrainian symbol for peace and freedom.
  11. What does he drive?
A motorcycle, as of 1994. He always wears a helmet.
  12. What about Ivan's family life? Is he married?
Well, all we know for sure is that he has three dogs, a mother, and a younger sister. Besides, it's not really any of our business, and we like to maintain the fantasy world in which he has no girlfriend or wife. Considering the fact that we are probably never going to meet him, and we certainly would not have the spherical objects to ask him, this is how things are. Live with it. You're not going to become his girlfriend if he's looking for one.

Ivan's Career

  1. How did Ivan get his break?
Ivan was discovered dancing with three friends on "Star Search" at the tender age of 15 (if you do the math, that's 1986). If anyone has this on tape, we'd REAAAALLY like to see it.
  2. What film projects has Ivan been involved with?
Ivan was a featured character in the 1992 Disney movie musical "Newsies." He played the part of Dutchy. We heard this rumor that his Ivanness has also appeared in the movie "Encino Man." (and assisted with choreography)
  3. Cool. Was he really in it?
His name does not appear in the credits, but there are two scenes in which someone who looks suspiciously like him appears. During the first school scene, we see three times a guy in a black t-shirt and shades that looks very much like Ivan. Then, later, in the prom scene a certain skilled blond dancer in a stripey tux is near the front of the crowd, but our view of his face is obstructed by that mop of gorgeous hair so we don't know for sure. The verdict: if this guy ISN'T really Ivan, we'd probably date him anyway.
  4. OK, that's great, but you have to really be looking for him to find him in anything you've just mentioned. Where else can I find him?
Ivan was prominent in the Nickelodeon variety show "Roundhouse," which aired from 1992 to 1994. 52 episodes were made over the course of four halcyon seasons.
  5. What's he doing now?
Ivan tells us: "I have been directing, photographing, and developing short films, music videos, TV shows, and commercials...remember the name GROUND ZERO- it's a new talk show that I am developing for me and Mark David to co-host. It's a combination of The Jon Stewart Show, MTV Unplugged, The Tonight Show with Carson, and Mad TV." You can be sure that the Triumvirate will post the latest information on this when we know more about it.
  6. How can I contact Ivan?
The Triumvirate does not have permission from Ivan to post information on how to get in touch with him personally. Therefore, we're not going to tell you.

Ivan in "Newsies."

  1. Which one is Ivan?
Ivan is Dutchy, and we understand that this can be confusing since his name is never mentioned in the movie. But he is the attractive blond kid with the wire-rimmed spectacles and the predilection for taking off his hat and putting it back on.
  2. What does Dutchy say in the movie?
Dutchy has two lines. While painting a sign, he says, "So did I spell it right, Kloppman?" and then rereads what he has written proudly: "strike." Later on, he is seen handing out fliers with Kid Blink (played by Trey Parker) and says, "Hey, read this scrap!" and "Spread the word".
  3. That ain't much. What else of Dutchy is there?
Well, gee, we're glad you asked that question. Dutchy is seen in just about every scene in which there are a lot of newsies. He is usually featured prominently in the background, but we are not going to tell you where in every scene.
  4. Why not?
Because it's more fun to find him yourself.
  5. This is starting to sound like some sort of game.
It certainly is. Dutchyspotting is sweeping the nation. If you can't find a store that sells Tickle Me Dutchy, this is a good substitute.
  6. How do I play?
Full rules can be found on our "Newsies" page. It's really very simple. Just watch "Newsies," and every time you see Dutchy, point to the screen and gleefully shout "Dutchy!" There are no losers since everyone gets to see him. NOTE: Playing Dutchyspotting with anything other than Newsies, i.e. Roundhouse, will get very annoying very quickly, so it's our recommendation that you don't.

Ivan in Roundhouse

  1. What the heck was Roundhouse anyway?
Roundhouse was a sketch comedy show that aired on Nickelodeon for four seasons, beginning in 1992 and ending in 1994. This show mixed found-object prop acting with improvisation, minimal sets, recurring jokes, and just a dash of hip-hop dancing.
  2. What part(s) did Ivan play?
You name it, Ivan played it. He did everything from professional wrestler to five-year-old child to Dan Quayle to Boyfriend-in-a-bottle. For a complete rundown, see the Roundhouse episode guide found elsewhere on the page.
  3. Where can I find this wondrous show?
Sad fact of the matter is, you can't. It's incredibly hard to locate. If you are lucky you may run into someone, like we did, who has all the episodes on tape and is willing to take the time to dub them for you. Or you could join us in lobbying Nickelooodeon to bring back the reruns. I mean, just look at the puerile drivel they're passing off as quality children's programming these days. What's this world coming to?
  4. Hey, I'm the one asking the questions here.
    Oh. Sorry.

That's all for now. More to come later. Back to DutchyWeb

The Triumvirate wishes to thank Ivan Dudynsky, Adge, Nickelodeon, and Michelle for their assistance in this endeavor.
