The Escape...

Her finger slid along the row of sunglasses hanging in her latest apartment. She sighed deeply. The silence was enough to make her scream. Walking across the floor boards she could hear the swoosh of the material on the floor as she crossed to the window.

"Even a cat would be nice....", she thought to herself. Her own humanity wouldn't let her. If she ever got caught.... or killed, who would feed it? Besides, it would be impractical to have an animal. Dragging it from place to place. "What kind of freedom is this? I can't even have a friend."

The tears began to course down her cheeks. She mopped at them angrily with the corner of her shirt. It had been four months since Michael had helped her escape and she vowed to cry no more idle tears.

Staring out the window with blurred eyes she spotted a man who quickly glanced in her direction. She almost cried out his name and caught herself. Every passing stranger, every passing car, all seemed to hold him as if to mock her feelings. If she had only known, she could have told him before she left. Atleast to have that bit of relief, but she couldn't and never would be able to again. The communicator blinked on.... "Nikita..... Are you there?" She couldn't answer it. He must know that, why does he keep trying? She turned abruptly and laid down on the cot, wanting nothing more than to be done with all of this. Done with life itself.

Her mind slid from her body as she stared up at the cracked, dingy ceiling. She felt herself slipping into sleep, and passingly wondered if this new softness within her was going to be the death of her. She let go and tumbled end over end deeper. Back in time, back into his world.

She was laying in his arms. She could feel the sweat drying on her body. She could smell him. Feel his kisses on her shoulder, the nape of her neck. They had made love over and over and each time it had gotten more intense. Edgar Cayce was right she marveled, maybe there really are soul mates for us in this world. If only we could always be like this... then the section wouldn't matter. Only we would matter. She could remember a time on the streets when she was so desperate, lonely, cold, that she thought she could never be warm again, or trust, or be loved. Maybe it was all worth it for this moment alone. She never thought she would feel this protected... this... warm again. He whispered her name.... again and again. She couldn't shake the feeling of Deja Vu that she was feeling. She had been here before.

Someone was shaking her.... saying her name over and over and over.....

"Nikita, wake up, the away team is assembled, they're waiting for you...", it was Madeline.

She stopped and looked at herself in the reflective glass. The dream fresh in her mind was pushed aside for the time being, she could reminisce about it later. Her heart went back out to Stanley, she had to find a way to get him out. She started to zip her coat as she walked down the hall towards the away teams van bay. Michael was standing in the doorway waiting for the last member of his team. Memories of her dream flooded back into her head and she desperately wished she could express them.

As she looked into his eyes she asked, "Michael, what's wrong?"

"Nothing.", he stated stoically with a haunted look in his eyes.

She just tilted her head and climbed aboard the van, her thoughts once again turning to Stanley... she had to find a way for him to....escape.
