PART 3
Prologue
The past week had been great for Dawson and Joey. After their date by the lake Sunday night, they decided to become an "official" couple. They had been spending every waking moment together.
Things with Pacey and Jenn hadn't been so wonderful, though - to Pacey's great dismay. After they saw Armageddon together, Jenn called Pacey "Dawson" as they were walking home… leaving Pacey heartbroken.

Dawson looked over at Joey, who was concentrating on the movie they were watching- some sappy romantic flick. 'She's so beautiful,' he thought to himself. He moved next to her, and pulled her close.
"Hey gorgeous," Dawson whispered.
"Shhh…" Joey replied, not paying attention to the compliment Dawson had just given her. "I'm trying to watch the movie."
Dawson started to laugh.
"What?" Joey said, tearing herself away from the TV screen. Dawson just kept laughing. "What's so funny, Dawson? "
"Jo, you're so cute," he said, and leaned in to kiss her. They didn't even hear the knock on his bedroom door, or notice when someone entered the room.

"My life completely SUCKS!" Pacey yelled at the creek. He was so excited when Jenn agreed to go out with him. He had hoped that she was over Dawson by now, but obviously she wasn't. Pacey reached into his pocket for a cigarette, and lit up. Nobody (other than Dawson) knew that he smoked occasionally. Usually just when he was really stressed out - when his Dad was on his case, when he got his report card, when he found out the girl of his dreams still wanted his best friend…
"Pacey, my man - looks like you're doing the same thing as me," Mitch Leery said with a laugh as he walked up. "Let me guess - trouble with women?"
"Uh, Mr. Leery, how are ya?" Pacey said, embarrassed to have Dawson's dad catch him smoking. He took one last puff, and then flicked the cigarette out into the creek. "You know, I don't usually do this…please don't tell my father…"
"Don't worry about a thing, Pacey. I understand. And no, I'm not going to tell your father. You should know I wouldn't do that," Mr. Leery said with a smile, before he lit a cigarette of his own. "Now," he paused, "Was I right? Is it a woman that has you so mixed up? Cuz if it is, I can surely relate."
"OK, get this. I took this girl out the other night, and we had a great time. I've liked her for awhile, you see. Anyway. I was walking her home, and she calls me by the name of her ex-boyfriend. Turns out she still wants him. Now, she won't even talk to me. I put a note in her locker Monday at school. Asked her to meet me outside at lunch. Does she come? No, she stands me up," Pacey pauses for a second, and then continues. "You don't know how bad I want to grow up and get out of here. My life sucks, Mr. Leery. Plain and simple."
"Pacey, your life doesn't suck. And it's not just you who have these problems. I've been married for 20 years, and Gail and I still have problems very similar…" Mr. Leery stops, obviously hitting a sore spot. He just looked out at the creek, not saying anything.
After about 5 minutes, Mitch Leery stood up and started walking back towards his house. He turned around, and said, "Ya know, Pacey, life doesn't get any easier just because you're an adult. In fact, I think it gets harder…"

"Oh, uh… excuse me for intruding…" Jenn started, with a shocked look on her face. She had heard around school that Dawson and Joey were together, but hadn't believed it.
"Oh! Jenn, um, what are you doing here?" a startled Dawson said.
"No kidding," Joey said under her breath.
"I'm sorry… I just needed to talk to you about something, Dawson. But, I don't really think I'm wanted here, so I'll just leave you two alone," Jenn says as she walks towards the door.
"No, Jenn, you can-- OW! Joey!" he said, rubbing his side where Joey elbowed him.
"No, I'll just talk to you later, Dawson," Jenn says, holding back tears as she hurries out the door.
"Jenn! Can't you at least shut the door for us?" Joey calls after her, with a smirk on her face. Jenn turns around and slams the door behind her.
"Joey! Come on, what's gotten into you?"
"Sorry, Dawson… she's just really bugging me lately. Now, where were we?" Joey said as she kissed Dawson on the lips.

THREE HOURS LATER
"Ahhh," Dawson sighed as he lay back on the dock by his house. "Movie night has never sounded so appealing to me right now." Just thinking about Joey made him smile. Now that they were together, he saw everything in a new light. 'She should be getting out of work pretty soon,' he thought as he looked at his watch. Just then, he heard someone walking behind him on the dock. Figuring it was Joey, he popped a peppermint in his mouth and turned around, ready to greet her with a kiss.
"Hey Jo- uh, Jenn!" He tried not to let his disappointment show. He knew Jenn was already upset about what had happened earlier that day.
"Dawson, I've gotta talk to you," Jenn said with a serious look on her face.
"OK, why don't you sit down?" He said with a curious look on his face.
"Um… so you and Joey are together now?"
"Yeah. Is that what you wanted to talk about? Because, let me warn you, I could go on all night about Joey," Dawson said, smiling.
"Well, no, that's not the only thing I wanted to talk to you about. I really don't know how to say this, so bear with me. I really regret breaking up with you. I miss you so much," Jenn said as she burst into tears.
'Oh no…' Dawson thought. He just looked at her, unsure of what to do next.
"Dawson, if it weren't for you, I'd go back to New York. You're the only thing that's keeping me here."
"Jenn, you don't mean that. You have lots going for you here in Capeside," Dawson said, feeling dumb because he couldn't think of anything better to say.
"Yeah right. Maybe I should just move back to New York. Nobody cares about me here," Jenn said, standing up. Dawson stood up too, and looked her in the eye.
"Jenn Lindley, stop talking like that. You're my friend, and you mean a lot to me. I don't want you to go back to New York."
"Oh, Dawson," Jenn said, fresh tears flowing down her face. "You mean so much to me… I… well, I…--"
"What are you trying to say?" Dawson said.
"Let me show you," Jenn said, as she wrapped her arms around Dawson and kissed him.

"Hey, Pacey!" Joey said as she took off her apron. Her shift at the Icehouse was finally over, and she was just about to leave for Dawson's.
"Joey," Pacey said with a nod.
"Woah…no hello? That's it? Man, what's gotten into you? Where's my insult?" Joey said as she sat down at Pacey's table. "Boy, you reek like smoke! Where have you been?"
"Forget it, Joey."
"Pacey! Come on, cheer up! Hey, do you have your Dad's Jeep with you tonight?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Can you please, please, please drive me over to Dawson's? I'm kinda tired, and I'd really appreciate the ride," Joey said, plastering her puppy-dog look on her face.
"Well, alright Jo. But just this once. And don't get used to me being so nice!" Pacey said, smiling for the first time all day.
"Alright!" Joey said, jumping up. She and Pacey walked over to where the Jeep was parked, and as she waited for Pacey to unlock her door, started babbling again. This time Pacey didn't even pay attention. Once they were in, Joey turned the radio to her favorite station, singing along with the radio all the way to Dawson's house. Pacey pulled into his driveway, and Joey hopped out. "Come on, Pacey! You can come too."
"You sure?"
"Yes!" Joey said as she ran up to the ladder. She climbed into Dawson's room, and saw that he wasn't there. "Oh, he must be at the dock, Pacey," she called down. She climbed down the ladder, and she and Pacey headed for Dawson's dock. Once they were about ten feet away from it, Joey saw it. She saw Dawson and Jenn kiss.
"Oh…" Joey said, putting her hands up to her mouth. She turned around and ran back to Pacey's Jeep, where it sat with the keys in the ignition. She hopped in the driver's side, and slammed it into reverse.
"Joey!! You can't drive! You don't even know how!" Pacey screamed at the fast moving car, which was swerving all over. It didn't even matter to Joey anymore. All she wanted to do was get out of there, and fast. She put the car in drive, and raced away from Dawson's house.
Ten minutes later, Joey looked down at the speedometer. She was going 95 MPH, down a two-lane road by the ocean. She was so blinded by tears, she couldn't even see that she was heading off the road, and towards a massive tree. Suddenly, her vision cleared, and she saw the tree. She felt the impact, and then everything went black.
