Lady J's Opinion Easily one of the finest shows ever done on television (discounting the last season, which still had a few shining moments). When I was in the Army and lived in a barracks, every week I would take control of the floor television and watch this show, and I soon had my whole floor as addicted to it as I was. Really more of a dramadey then drama, Moonlighting told the story of an ex-model who inherits a detective agency along with a smart-assed partner. It really reminded me, and most of the critics at the time, of the old screwball comedies of Hollywood. It had exquisite writing and didn't condescend to the audience, you had to pay attention to keep up. The thing is, it also had many, many fine dramatic moments, mostly in the interplay between Shepherd and Willis. There were also fine supporting characters and good story lines. But most of the tension came from the doomed love story between the lead characters, and once they finally got together, the show slid downhill rather quickly. But if you get the chance, do try and start at the beginning and watch it. Lifetime television shows it occasionally, and it's available on video I think. | Links: |
