How to participate in PageTV

Put the PageTV logo on your page(s).

The easiest way to support PageTV is by putting the above PageTV logo on any of the pages on your site, preferably on the index page and all other main entrances to your site. To do this, you can rightclick on the logo, save it on your computer and add it to your website files. A more simple way is to make a link to the logo on this site, as follows:
 Go to PageTV

No need to go to the source code of this page! Simply highlight the above HTML-code, copy it and paste it into the source code of your own page!

To enable people to click on the PageTV-logo, you must add a hyperlink to the image, using additional HTML-code. In front of the above logo-code, you put the following code:

and after the logo code, you add the following closing tag:

You may want to put the image on the center of your page. For this you add the
tag in front of the code and behind it the closing tag

To start on a new line, you may also want to add a following tag:

Now you have the PageTV logo on your page and if visitors click on it, they will go to the PageTV index page. If you use all of the above pieces of code, the entire string will look like this:

 Go to PageTV

Of course, by changing this URL, you can bring visitors to another PageTV-page than the index page. Remember how the above code was built-up - one part is the hyperlink, the other part the image link. In the hyperlink code there is an address, or a URL, i.e. the string in between the quotes. You can replace this URL for the URL of your choice, as long as it is a PageTV-page.

Create your own PageTV-page.

To create a PageTV-page yourself, duplicate one of your best pages and put it on your site with a URL ending in something such as PageTV.html or pagetv.htm. This allows URL-searches to recognize your page as a PageTV-page. Furthermore, add the following code to the source code of your page:

Put this code in between the HEAD-tags at the top of your page. Note that there only are quotation marks before the number 7 (= seconds waiting time before the next page comes up) and at the end of the URL, but nowhere in between! You can vary the number of seconds depending on how long it takes to view your page, but make sure that you link up to this PageTV-page. With the above code, the page will automatically refresh to display the welcome page from where visitors can choose to watch further pages, including yours.

Participate in quotes.

In the above section, your page is included on the bottom part of the PageTV index-page, i.e. the screen. Instead, you may want one of your quotes inserted into the top frame, i.e. above the screen. Then submit a request to PageTV, send an email to PageTV@GeoCities.com. Include the quote, as well as a URL and title of the page where the quote was taken from. If approved, the quote will be added the PageTV index-page top frame. This means that another quote will be removed. Quotes can only be included for a limited period.

Notes.

Note also that it may take some time for your submission to be processed and that unsuitable pages can be rejected without notification.

Tips.

Be careful if you apply the refresh-method on your own site. If you add too many quotes or if you loop them, you may cause irritation, as in some browsers the loop will continue until people close their browser! A refresh time of between 4 and 10 seconds is recommended to allow enough time for loading without viewers getting bored. Many viewers prefer simple pages, so, most importantly, keep your page simple to avoid long loading times by avoiding frames and large graphics. In order for your page to be more visible on WEB-TV and other Internet-enabled television sets, choose colors that are not fully saturated. Avoid making pages that require scrolling for the full text to be visible (recommended is a 544x378-pixel viewing area or less). Be careful with wallpaper, frames, sound, Java, Javascript pop-up windows, large graphics, and anything else that may make loading difficult. Do not include code that prevents pages to be cached, as viewers may want to get the entire chain on cache before they start watching. Do not include code that sends cookies or that offers secure payments. Such code may cause browsers to present the viewer with a choice and thus stop the chain until such a choice is made. Just keep your page as simple as possible. If viewers like your page, they will click on it and go to more of your pages, i.e. pages that are not part of PageTV, so you can include all the bells and whistles in those pages. Choose the right chain! The server where you keep your page on, may insist on sending out cookies and large ads. In that case, do not join a chain that tries to avoid such things.
