Finally I have time for a mini update. Now how about last episode? I admit on first viewing I thought it was plain weird. But on second viewing I realized just how good it was. The last scene was priceless, and the tie-ins to the Anasazi were refreshing. The Mulder being CSM's son thing did turn out to be true! We've all seen it coming, and at least I kind of denied that it could be true until "Amor Fati." Look at "Anasazi," "Herrenvolk," and "The Red and the Black." All have specific references suggesting that Mulder is CSM's son. I'm not that sad to see Fowley go, but at least she died because she helped Scully. Hosteen made a fine exit. And I will say again, the last scene was amazing. Love the extra touch of the Yankees cap, and the love was just so obvious! BTW I heard that the hallway scene was filmed and added only 10 days ago! So...a mythology update is coming soon. Today I'm busy (again) so I'll just put up this DD quote (more news and page updates tomorrow):

"I mean, I wouldn't say 'never' about anything, but as of right now, my contract is up at the end of this coming year, so I'm living my life as if this would be the last year, and I'd be fine if it were the last year. I'm really proud of the six years so far, and seven years is a long time to be doing one show, and I have other things to do. But again, I don't know."

UPDATE: Ouch! The spoiler that I said was for "Signs and Wonders" is actually for "The Widow's Eye." I changed it below.

The webmaster of The FBI Database was Foxed, but not taken to court. :-| Anyway...tonight's episode is supposed to be just incredible, judging from people who have seen it or read the summary (frown). I can't wait. "Orison" was moved up to Dec. 12, so "The Goldberg Variation" will have to air Dec. 26, since "How the Ghosts Stole Christmas" is showing on Dec. 19. And it looks like the William Gibson episode is 7X13 not 7X11, because the official site says that "William Gibson is lucky 13." Which makes "The Widow's Eye" either 7X11 or 7X12. I'll change it to 7X11 for now. The episode will involve "Mulder and Scully doing some soul-searching mixed in with some ancient Chinese religion." And the last episode info I have is from Dennis X, who found out that "Sein Und Zeit" is the title of Martin Heidegger's "master work" on philosophy. I don't even hope to understand his point of view.

Finally Neil Main sent me pictures of 2 movie items, one of which I didn't already have listed. The first picture is of the U.K. Special Edition Limited First Edition video cover (limited to 50,000), and the new item is a U.K. 2-sided mini poster.

UPDATE: Apparently the webmaster of The FBI Database is being taken to court by Fox for copyright infringement! Anyone know about this? It's a U.K. site right?

There have been a lot of really specific spoilers (dialogue etc.) that I'm not going to post here (or read). So check out the Haven if you want to see the specific stuff--mostly for "Orison," "Rush," "The Goldberg Variation," etc. One thing that I picked up for the latter before I stopped reading was that one part of the episode is in a warehouse with hanging chains, laundry carts, etc. Should be cool. The official site updated, and it looks like the official writing credit for next episode is "Written by David Duchovny and Chris Carter." New episode info! 7X10 is "Sein Und Zeit" ("Being and Time"), written by Frank Spotnitz and Chris Carter and directed by Michael Watkins. It is about parents suspected of abducting children and starts filming Thursday. 7X12 is "The Widow's Eye," written by John Shiban and directed by Kim Manners. Supposedly it's about a guy who steals souls. The Lone Gunmen are contracted to 6 episodes this season, but aren't in the first 7 episodes at least. We know that they will be in 7X11. "The Amazing Maleeni" takes place in California and is about the mysterious death of a magician--"he loses his head." A magician named LaBonge (named after the 2nd-unit XF director of photography) flirts with an unwilling Scully. Anyway I forgot to write the dates for the next official magazine and yearbook, from the ad in the current issue. Magazine #12 comes out Dec. 7, and the yearbook hits newsstands Nov. 23. "You know, it's a book...a character I created, probably about 12 years ago, and it's just been something that's been sitting around. I always knew I wanted to do something with it. I thought, you know, why not do a TV series or movie, but then I thought, it's the perfect character for a series of books. So I'm currently at work on that."

He then said that "he's kind of a rapscallion himself. He's a guy who sits around.... There are two characters...who work together and it's set post-World War II...[it] is really fun to write in that era. It has kind of detective qualities, but it owes something to The X-Files, too." Anyway Jason sent me the print ad for "Amor Fati"! Millennium fans take note:

"MILLENNIUM/THE X-FILES CROSSOVER MARATHON on Sunday, November 28 at 12 p.m.-9 p.m. ET/PT On Sunday, November 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the Fox Network will air a special The X-Files/Millennium crossover episode, guest starring Lance Henriksen (Millennium's Frank Black character), that will wrap up all of the series' loose ends. For fans and viewers who missed this moody, supernatural drama the first time around, FX will present a nine-hour marathon leading up to the special crossover. This marathon will introduce viewers to Frank Black, an ex-FBI agent who has the ability to enter the minds of criminals, and highlights crucial moments with the Millennium Group, an underground organization that battles the forces of evil. As we approach the year 2000, this marathon will serve as a kick-off for December's Millennium Month. Makes me wish I had FX. I heard on the newsgroup that CSM himself (Bill Davis) is involved in a sexual harrassment lawsuit filed by someone enrolled in his acting school. Hrm. The final ratings for the premiere are 10.5/15 (household rating; ranked #15 for the week in # of households and #11 in number of viewers, total 17,827,000 viewers) and 9.6/20 (adults 18-49 rating). This is down from "The Beginning"'s 11.9/17 household rating (the season 7 premiere ratings went down from the prelims). But the premiere finished first in the timeslot in 18-49 adults, and was second to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Plus its ratings far surpassed that of any other Fox show. That's it for today.

Not too much today. First I want to say that all the buzz over an "ever-changing schedule" is probably unfounded since the schedule is not made that far ahead in time. I'm not changing the schedule here unless I get good info from FoxFlash or a TV schedule. Although a rerun of "How the Ghosts Stole Christmas" would make sense. So I'm just following the FoxFlash airdates, and past that I'm assuming that the airdates for each episode in subsequent production order are one week apart. But I will say again that I've heard about February airdates for "Orison" and the possible Clooney-starring Carter/Duchovny standalone. Plus the 2-parter, which elwood blues said on SpoilerVille will have Krycek, Covarrubias, and the rebels, which would make sense I guess.... Well anyway, that PlayStation ad is now on alt.binaries.x-files. In overseas news, season 4 returns on Friday, Nov. 12 on SABC 2 in South Africa. Here is another brief summary of next week's ep: "Mulder is taken from the hospital to 'a kind of witness-protection program,' and Skinner tells Scully he must distance himself from the case." Finally, I forgot to mention that there was more movie score sampling in the premiere. Whatever.

Check yesterday's update for the additions I made. Anyway. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! The premiere was incredible! I loved it so much, the mix of mythology and standalone elements, the religious and mystical stuff, all explainable! XF has been leading up to this mixture for a long time now. Gotta love the Scully/Mulder moment, Mulder tapping the monitors, and the dead translator killing Barnes! Wow. Anyway, it's amazing how much the premiere storyline has changed since the Fox memo! The summary there talked about a med student who falls in love with Scully while helping her out...glad they took that out. The summary was made before the ep was written though. 2 new promos too...one "In 45 Minutes..." and the other "In 10 Minutes...." Cool. The preliminary Nielsens are higher than the final ratings for "The Beginning" last year, which is especially good since Who Wants to Be a Millionaire returned opposite the premiere on ABC. The XF rating was an X-cellent 12.5/17. There weren't too many revelations in the episode, but I loved the return of KR.....itschgau (that was great how we were teased like that). Next week...how great does the ep look? We'll be getting the answers then! And Krycek's back, wielding his precious video! Nick Lea made it to L.A. to film his part apparently! Can't believe the promo had CSM saying "I am your father" at the end! Even if it's not true somehow, come on!! BTW the promo is on alt.binaries.x-files. That's a revelation meant to be a surprise. And Hosteen's back on his feet! Yay! OK, calm, calm. Calmed.

Anyway all the major sections are now in the "new" design--I updated Links, Archive, and Site Updates yesterday. I'll update the Mythology section to the premiere today too. Mostly stuff on Kritschgau and Mulder's abilities and the spaceship's powers. Official site updates: Can you believe that the new official site added the summary of "The Sixth Extinction" TODAY? Yeah! Plus the fan club is selling 250 autographed scripts of the episode, along with scripts of various other episodes, all added today.

Spoiler time. In "The Amazing Maleeni," Maleeni stages a bank heist during the daytime (that's where the bank heist rumor and the previous title come in!) using his magic. Anyway got some more juicy info from the newly redesigned Haven. An X-Cursions article had a bunch of stuff: There are only 2 lighter episodes in the first 12 ("The Amazing Maleeni" and 7X11?). (BTW I realized that 7X11 will be the 150th episode to film!) Frank Spotnitz: "The mythology episodes in February plant seeds that come to fruition in May, whether the show continues or not." We'll get lots of Fowley this season, and more info on her ties to CSM and her previous relationship with Mulder. "Orison" airs in February. William B. Davis's episode will air sometime early next year. The article again confirmed that WMM most likely will return sometime this season. We'll find more out about Samantha and what happened after the abduction. Mulder's "past marriage" will be "indirectly addressed" this season too. Also more spoilers at the Haven, from "Orison." "Now, the song in question [remember the Fox memo?] is the song Scully keeps hearing throughout the day. Three times she hears it...and it was a song she hasn't heard since high school. Now, what's odd, is that Scully admits earlier in the day that this song was the song she was listening to when she found out her Sunday school teacher was murdered. It was a moment of her realizing the existence of good and evil in the world. On this particular day, she has heard it three times and the day is revolving around their investigation of 3 escaped convicts (one Donnie Pfaster included). Now, to make it even more confusing, when Scully questions a Rev. Orison who is involved, he talks to her about her faith....and calls her 'Scout'...the name the Sunday school teacher used to call her. So, we have an interesting story, folks. Good vs. evil. A further exploration of Scully's faith (which may be weak considering this premiere stuff) and some icky Donnie Pfaster stuff that could create some shippy moments." Plus: "How's this: Mulder receives a phone call, but he isn't home. The marshall leaves a message on Mulder's machine: 'Agent Mulder, this is Marshall ?? (didn't catch the name). Just talked to a call girl who ID's Donnie Pfaster as an attacker. Said Pfaster got real upset when she was wearing a wig. Upset she wasn't a redhead. This mean anything to you? Appreciate a call back.' Mulder comes in after the call. Feeds the fish. Doesn't check the machine." That last scene...amazing!

Finally:

YET ANOTHER UPDATE? YES INDEED: During the football game on Fox, another new promo was shown (#12 by my count) showing the scene with the person digging out the spaceship, plus the screeching car shining its headlights at the screen. The text read: "Tonight 9/8c." Less than 4 hours!!!!

ANOTHER UPDATE: This is going to be a long day! Neil Main sent me more U.K. movie merchandise info. Remember the Special Limited Edition U.K. movie videos? We now have more info on them: They come in cardboard boxes and the boxes are the same as the Special Editions but have a black stripe across the front saying "Special Limited Edition." The number of the video (out of the number made) is on the spine of the box. It was limited to more than 1000 (which I previously thought it was limited to). Cardboard-boxed limited-edition videos are called "Warm Packs" in the U.K. And Neil confirmed that the videos are not metallic and were supposed to include cards but didn't. The movie card came, in addition to the "One Son" card, with the "One Son" video. Also here's a good picture of the movie Maglite Solitaire also from Neil.

UPDATE: I taped "Sanguinarium" which aired at 3 a.m. this morning here, and just watched it. During the ads there was a promo for the PlayStation game, and two different "combined" promos with all the shows airing this Sunday night, including the premiere. One of those promos had a new X-Files portion, so that's promo #11. If you get FX a promo for the Thanksgiving Marathon is also showing. Also Neil Main has told me about another U.K. movie merchandise item: A big clear plastic poster with the movie "X" on it.

NOVEMBER 7!!!!! We've been waiting for half a year, and the day is upon us. I can't wait!!! Check yesterday's update, I added to the update twice during the day. Just two tidbits today, thanks to script_grrrl: "The Amazing Maleeni" was written by Frank Spotnitz plus Vince Gilligan and John Shiban. And Ricky Jay plays Maleeni. Enjoy the premiere!

Just wanted to mention that the name listed for the X-Files season 1 DVD set (it will be sold together but don't know about separately) is The X-Files: Season One. Big, big news today!!! Two major "promises" are being kept by Fox: An official site update and episode DVDs. The official site is completely new and updated! It also has another address, www.fox.com/thexfiles/. Check out Fox.com for a cool promo intro for the site and premiere. The season 6 episode guide is complete, and the season 7 episode list goes all the way up to "Signs and Wonders"! Major improvement here. 7X08's new title is "The Amazing Maleeni," which I got from the site. Also there's a new message board from Delphi. In other X-Files site updates, the X-Files Store has added a Mugs section, and the Vault is now selling The X-Files 1999 Yearbook, which I guess is also in newsstands already. And about the episode DVDs? For 2000 Fox is releasing the entire season 1, in 7 or 8 discs of 3 episodes each. No word on the exact date, whether they will be sold together or separate or both (but it's called a "gift pack," so they'll be sold together probably), or what extras there will be. Spoiler time. "Amor Fati" will have Albert Hosteen, Mrs. Mulder, and (confirming what I said earlier) Samantha...or someone looking a lot like her, in it. When Mulder disappears from the hospital he actually escapes. "The Amazing Maleeni" is about a magician, and magician Ricky Jay is a guest star. A set report also hinted that it would involve a bank heist. Gillian Anderson was on The Martin Short Show yesterday and a scene from the premiere was shown: "Scene shows Scully in some kind of small, wooden structure, looking toward a lantern that large moths have gathered around. As she goes up to turn the flame down/off, we see someone standing just inside the cloth flap that seems to be an entrance. Scully quickly looks over, saying, 'Who's there? Also a new promo has hit the airwaves, featuring a scene with Scully confronting Skinner. Thanks CP Dana A! Want the truth about Stephen Rea? From Chris Carter: "We considered bringing in Rea for a [multiple-episode] arc at the beginning of this season, but in no way did anybody suggest him as a replacement for David." Anyway, the following article on the PlayStation game is pretty interesting:

Check out the Mythology section for the pre-premiere update! Refresh your X-Files knowledge for the new season! Many things added and clarified. Anyway, 7X09 info is already in thanks to Autumn T. on the AOL boards, posted to SpoilerVille by Sea. It's Jeffrey Bell's 4th script, called "Signs and Wonders," to be directed by Kim Manners and starts filming Nov. 8. "It's about a fire and brimstone church, the Church of God with Signs and Wonders, that is one of those snake handling churches." All righty then. I just remembered that we know the director of the currently filming episode (7X08), Thomas J. Wright, from the Fox memo. Does anyone know the writer? John Shiban maybe? Anyway the same Japanese online magazine that interviewed Rob Bowman interviewed Kim Manners, and there is some good stuff in it. He was standing in for Rob Bowman while filming "Orison" the day the interview was done, and was directing because Bowman was sick that day. Manners will direct 5 more episodes after "The Sixth Extinction," including "Signs and Wonders." In "Orison" Orison is the name of the priest apparently, played by Scott Wilson. Manners talked about the premiere and confirmed that Mulder's illness is caused by the black oil. About season 7, he said this: "The agents will finally find out the whereabouts of Mulder's sister, and what really happened to her, him, and his family. We'll see where human beings originally came from. The chemistry between Mulder and Scully will be exposed in depth." Manners also said that Krycek is working with...the rebels! It seems from the interview that Krycek will be in one or both of the premiere episodes. On the same site as the interview, it says that in "The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati" a Samantha (clone or not, we don't know) will return, and the issue of whether CSM is Mulder's father is brought up. From Chris Carter's AOL chat, I got two tidbits. Spotnitz said in the official magazine that a "major new character" is introduced in the premiere, but Carter said that no new recurring characters are introduced in the first 8 episodes. Also CC clarified the goal of the rebels: The rebels want Earth and its resources to control for themselves.

In December the season 6 episode guide will come out. Also a new novelization, Ascension, which I think includes "Duane Barry," "Ascension," and "One Breath," was supposed to come out in September but I think was delayed. Finally here's a very interesting article from today's L.A. Times:

"As The X-Files prepares for the launch of its seventh season this weekend on Fox, there is continuing drama over the series' uncertain future.

"The X-Files returns Sunday on Fox for its seventh season, scaring and mystifying viewers with its tales of the paranormal and the unexplainable. But though he knows how the cliffhanger that launches the season premiere turns out, the ultimate truth is still out there for the show's creator, Chris Carter.

"That is, whether this season will be the end of the line for Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson--and the show itself.

"The contracts for Carter and Duchovny, who plays FBI Agent Fox Mulder, are both up this season. And Anderson, who portrays FBI Agent Dana Scully, has declared that she will not return, even though she is contracted for another season. Both 20th Century Fox Television, for whom Carter produces the series, and the Fox network say they would like everyone back for an eighth season, and Carter says he's interested. But there are obstacles--primarily of a financial nature. At a cost of about $3 million per episode, The X-Files already is the most expensive series on network TV, and that would climb even higher with the extra money it presumably would take to keep the key players in the fold.

"But Fox, off to a disastrous start to the season with the almost total failure of its fall lineup, badly needs to keep the few hits it has.

"'We would love to have the show back,' Fox Entertainment President Doug Herzog said. 'There are a couple of hurdles that need to be jumped over. But we are already in discussions with the studio, and when the time is right, we will sit down with Chris. The wheels are in motion.'

"In an interview this week, Carter indicated that he would very much like The X-Files to continue--if some major issues are resolved and Duchovny, Anderson and other key principals are on board. He said he is extremely excited, personally and creatively, about the coming season.

"Carter outlined some of the highlights of things to come this season. The central characters, particularly Mulder, will have a renewed vigor and purpose in their investigation of the unknown. The series will deal more with the personal relationship--and romantic tension--between the two agents; they may even finally kiss. Carter added: 'And there are a lot of great stories left to tell.'

"But Carter said pointedly that while studio chief Sandy Grushow has approached him about another season of the drama, Herzog has not. He feels that some answers have to come early next year. He also said he felt Herzog was 'not a fan of the show.'

"Responded Herzog: 'I'm not going to comment on that.'

"Carter realizes Fox owns the drama and can continue it without him. 'I don't know what their plans are,' he said. 'But it's their show. They can put it on without any of the principals being involved.'

"Besides the financial hurdles, the show's future is clouded by the lawsuit filed last August by Duchovny against 20th Century Fox Film Corp., the parent of the television studio. Duchovny alleges in the Los Angeles Superior Court suit that Fox gave its broadcast stations and FX cable channel sweetheart licensing deals for reruns of The X-Files rather than seek the highest bid in a competitive auction.

"Casting even more uncertainty is the strain between the network and Carter following the cancellation of Carter's new drama series, Harsh Realm, after just three weeks. Carter criticized Fox for failing to promote the show properly.

"'I really don't know how the Harsh Realm situation will affect The X-Files, but it hasn't created any greater desire for me to work harder to create a TV series for a network that is unwilling to promote it and unwilling to take a chance,' he said.

"Nevertheless, Carter said he has been proceeding with this season of The X-Files with the same enthusiasm and freshness as previous seasons. And for now, he is not steering the series toward a conclusion. 'As always, I want to tell good stories, scare people, leaven it with some funny episodes, expand and possibly wind down the X-Files mythology,' he said.

"Sunday's season premiere picks up where last season left off: Mulder has lost his mind and is locked away in a padded cell, while Scully is on the Ivory Coast, looking at what appears to be a spaceship in a tide pool. The installment, which continues next week with an episode written by Carter and Duchovny, 'reinvests and redefines Mulder with a new spirit in his quest,' Carter said.

"Several other surprises are in store. Prominent will be a New Year's Eve-themed episode in which Mulder and Scully find themselves 'in a position that men and women find themselves in at midnight.' The two agents, who have always put their personal feelings for each other aside, may finally deal with them.

"'We'll explore their relationship in a way we never have before,' said Carter, giving credit to a fan who expressed frustration that producers have teased the show's followers with hints of a romance between the characters in previous episodes and in the X-Files movie, but never followed through.

"'Now we're going to address this,' Carter said, adding with a smile, 'though not exactly in a clear way, which is the manner in which The X-Files handles things.'

"That exploration will continue into the February episodes that traditionally have leaped extensively into the mythology of aliens and government conspiracies at the heart of the series.

"Also scheduled this season is an episode featuring the resurrection of criminal investigator Frank Black, the lead character of Carter's Millennium series, which was canceled after three seasons. 'We're going to wrap him up in a way we weren't able to do with the series,' he said.

"Even with the question marks about the future, Duchovny's legal action and Anderson's determination about leaving, Carter said working on the series this season has been mostly business as usual. 'With the fact of the lawsuit, working with David has created some limitations on what we can actually speak about,' Carter said. 'But we wrote a script together. And I'll be directing him. So work goes on.' It wasn't until recently, when fellow executive producer Frank Spotnitz reminded him, that the reality of a possible final countdown hit him. 'I was all excited by an idea, and after I told Frank, he said, "We may be telling our last few stories here,"' Carter recalled. 'If this indeed is our last season, there are a lot of things that we have to do. I have some big ideas.'

"And when the end finally comes? 'One thing for sure,' said Carter, taking a good-natured swipe at the much-maligned Seinfeld finale, 'our characters will not end up in a jail cell, talking among themselves.'"

First of all, don't read the following if you don't want serious spoilers for shippers: Fowley makes a confession of love to Mulder while he's at the hospital: "I've always loved you. Now we can be together." She admits she did betray him, but that she still loves him. Mulder hears the speech. This happens in the premiere, which got a great review from Entertainment Weekly BTW! It said that the climax is great and spooky. Yay!! Anyway those in Australia take note:

Less than a week away, folks! How about "Home" eh? My tape of the original broadcast cut off the teaser, so it was great to see again. I enjoyed seeing the "Parental Discretion" advisories and "TV-MA" rating (with violence, sex, and language!). That's our X-Files. It really is a classic episode though. Anyway two new promos are out. The 45-second one on Sunday was the same one I described last update. Also another one was the preview for next week's episode after "Home" ended. And on Saturday, I saw the 2nd new promo which starts out with "11 * 7 * 99 The Wait is Over," but includes a high-up shot of the UFO and the digging etc. You can download the 45-second promo here and the next week preview here. The "Millennium" story was done by Chris Carter I'm pretty sure. VG & FS did the teleplay then. This was posted to the newsgroup: "Over at the Web site Haven for the FBI's Most Unwanted, a chick named Electra, who has claimed to be an insider at Fox, says she has seen the much-hyped kiss on the "Millennium" episode. Her reaction: the outtakes were better from what she hears, and the kiss itself is fast, uncomfortable and has no depth or meaning. She says CC and Co. are hyping it because they're 'scared' (duh)." Hrm. What I think is, in real life it would be pretty awkward anyway. I think 1013's ahead of the game. The REAL kiss is coming up later! Right?? Another thing I heard about the episode is that the agents find Frank Black in a psychiatric ward! Anyway check out this summary of "The Sixth Extinction":

"The seventh-season opener is the first of a two-part episode that begins where last season's cliffhanger left off--Mulder is in a padded cell and Scully is in Africa trying to find out why. To her dismay, Scully's Ivory Coast investigation into the mysterious surface of the spacecraft is joined by two people, both with a connection to the late Dr. Merkmallen. Back in D.C., Skinner is told by a doctor that Mulder's brain is exhibiting activity that 'none of us has ever seen.' But Skinner is able to extract a clue that leads him to one former Mulder ally who's helpful, while the loyalty of another is dubious."

Which one is Kritschgau? Anyway last Thursday Chris Carter did a chat at AOL, and hinted at the return of Samantha. Here's some good news--"Home" got great overnight ratings, especially for a rerun, 9/14. The episode DVDs (3 sets of 2 episodes planned) have been put on hold, or postponed by Fox. This would agree with what I said earlier about a release around February. Finally check this out:

"Fox Broadcasting, struggling with its slate in this current season, has committed to two pilots for next season.

"The network gave the go-ahead to a drama from the creators of fledgling ABC hit Once and Again, and a supernatural-themed soap called Ultraviolet.

I'm still here! Now for a nice-sized update. I'll start with the new stuff then do catch-up. FX's Secret Ballot Marathon Sweepstakes page is up. Voting starts tomorrow. 7X08 is called "Daybreak" and two locations are a warehouse and a theatre with musicians. It is filming now. It is confirmed that the kiss in "Millennium" will happen. Another official summary of the episode is: "Mulder and Scully enlist the help of former FBI agent Frank Black to unravel a mystery of apocalyptic proportions. The agents race against time to stop a member of the Millennium Group who holds the ability to summon the dead and plans to use this power to end the world as the millennium draws to a close." "Rush" will air Dec. 5 and "The Goldberg Variation" has been moved back a week to Dec. 12. "The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati" was written by Chris Carter and David Duchovny, and Mulder will disappear from the hospital in the episode. There are two new promos being shown. The first is exactly the same as the long one except it starts out with "Next Week on Fox The Wait is Over." You can download it here, thanks to Gertie's Archives. The second is completely new, 45 seconds long, and will air tomorrow during "Home." To be more exact, it will be the last ad (after the ad for E*Trade) during the second commercial break of the episode, at precisely 20 seconds past 9:21 p.m. EST. Thanks to SLR for posting this to the newsgroup! Jason saw the ad already and said that one scene has Mulder in a tank of water and Scully touching the glass with "pure emotion." Oh yeah, Mitch Pileggi will be on Mad TV in about a month. And William B. Davis's "The Cure is Out There" auction has started on Dean Haglund's site. One cool item is a framed movie card signed by DD. Haglund's performance "Paranoia Will Destroy Ya" has also been extended by popular demand. The Lone Gunmen will host the Thanksgiving marathon on FX. In the Chris Carter chat, he answered a question asking about the answers we will get this season with this: "Sit back, put your feet up, no clicking, and we will explain it all for you." Will we learn more about M&S's personal lives? "Yes, definitely."

Anyway the novelization of "Soft Light," Dark Matter, just came out or was rereleased because it's getting publicity at online stores. Also the book X Marks the Spot (about the locations in Vancouver) is out now, and it's supposed to be a great read. For Australian fans, here is a contest with a prize of the Special Edition movie video. And also, the movie figures (Case B) were canceled (not shipped) this month. Anyway on Tuesday, November 11 at 9 p.m. there will be a chat with XF science adviser Anne Simon at SCIFI.COM. Now it's time to paste:

I'm saddened (and, needless to say, unemployed) by Fox's decision to cancel Harsh Realm. We were officially given our notice today [Thursday, Oct. 28] at 0930 Pacific Time, and, as I was in prep mode for episode 9, I was no longer needed at all.

"I cleaned out my desk and headed to set around noon to visit the even episodes shooting crew, who were still giving 110% to filming episode 8, despite the fact that they'll all be unemployed by next Wednesday. The mood was somber, but the crew are outstanding, and continued to shoot with their usual skill, enthusiasm and professionalism.

"Episode 8 is based in post-nuclear attack New York City, and the sets and prosthetic makeup were our best yet. The hardest part of this turn of events is Fox's decision to no longer air Harsh Realm at all, despite the fact that there are eight completed episodes (8 will finish shooting on Friday). Episode 3 ["Inga Fossa," 1ADC02] was the last episode you'll see on Fox. I have heard, however, that that the eight complete episodes may be sold to another network, possibly the Sci-Fi Channel or Space, so don't touch that dial!

"We all worked so hard, putting in 12- to 20-hour days every day since July to deliver an exceptional TV adventure, only to have our work discarded by invisible money-counters in L.A., who would rather give you voyeuristic 'reality' programming which costs pennies to produce (plus the cost of the dignity of people injured, killed, or made homeless to be used as objects of cheap entertainment for half-witted viewers), than exercise any creativity or take any risks at all.

"I became a filmmaker to tell stories, and Harsh Realm was a very good story, indeed. We had our share of development and script problems, and a few birthing pains, but we made, for you, an adventure. We gave our time, ingenuity, blood, sweat, and tears to entertain you, and it's very comforting right now to see you enjoyed it so much.

"I'm sorry we'll never be able to see our friends Hobbes, Pinocchio and Florence escape from the Realm (of course, everybody knows Pinocchio preferred life in the Realm anyway), or to see Santiago, Waters and Inga get their due, but that's showbiz.

"What happens next to the characters is limited only by your imaginations. I hope someone out there with more creativity than I have decides to carry on where we left off. How about a graphic novel series? Get doodling!

Jason sent me print ads of "Home" and the last one for Harsh Realm. Well even though it was canceled, how about I type the last HR upcoming episode news? Another official summary of "Kein Ausgang," which should have aired yesterday, is: "While looking for a soldier who once nearly penetrated Santiago's forces, Hobbes and Pinocchio get stuck in a combat simulation game of a World War II battle. They must find the jump-portal to escape the game, or else be destined to watch the battle scenario repeat over and over with the same outcome." The lawsuit against CC/Fox was for $5 million and was supposed to go to court in New York sometime last week. In fact the credit to Hudnall et al. in the ending credits was changed in the last episode to: "Inspired by the Harsh Realm Comics series; Written by James D. Hudnall; Pencilled by Andrew Paquette; Published by Harris Publications, Inc." But that still didn't make them happy. Oh well. In the chat with D.B. Sweeney, he said that in later episodes Pinocchio gets some kind of female sidekick. And I'll end with Chris Carter's opinion: "I think in the end it looks rather misguided to have premiered the show without any promotional base, certainly when the reviews of it were good. I have a feeling we're victim of a much bigger problem at Fox. When I first met [Fox Entertainment President] Doug [Herzog] I realized he wasn't a fan of The X-Files, which made me paranoid that he didn't know what we did over here."

Harsh Realm has been canceled. What everyone feared has happened. Saw it in the newspaper this morning. After only three episodes! The humanity! Well we know now the real reason: Not bad TV, but bad publicity. Fox definitely has an advertising problem, and Chris Carter made a point of it in his angry statements. Anyone who saw the same lame season 7 promo during "Biogenesis" knows that. Well anyway, "Inga Fossa" was the last episode aired, and all we can hope for is that the Sci-Fi Channel or something picks up the remaining episodes.

Let's hope Chris Carter takes all his remaining energy and puts it into the LAST (hopefully) season of XF. Speaking of which (why didn't I see this coming?), "Orison" is the "Irresistible" sequel! Directed by Rob Bowman. Airing in December. Scully-centered. The clues were all there! Well it's been confirmed now by set reports. "The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati" was written by Chris Carter and David Duchovny, and in the episode Mulder will disappear from the hospital. I have more news, but I'll put it up later. This week I'll be pretty busy. :-(

I have a lot of news to report. "Inga Fossa" was great! BTW "Three Percenters" and "Reunion" have had switched production numbers all along. The former is 1H06 and the latter is 1H05, and they're airing in order ("Reunion" first). Another summary of "Reunion" is: "Pinocchio and Hobbes are captured by bounty hunters and taken to a labor camp." On a related topic, Jane and Lance Henriksen's daughter Sage Ariel was born Oct. 12 in L.A. BTW there was another season 7 promo during Harsh Realm. It was even more lame than the first one and showed even less. The text: 11 * 7 * 99 The Event You've Been Waiting For. Sigh. Anyway, I forgot to give Gertie's Archives the credit for the links to the 2nd season 7 promo I posted. The links have changed though: Location 1 and 2.

Some of the call sheets for episodes have leaked. "The Sixth Extinction: Amor Fati" will have a 60-year-old fat Mulder in his vision. "The Sixth Extinction" (7X03) was only written by Chris Carter I think. "Millennium" (I posted pictures in yesterday's update) will partly take place in Florida. Here are some quotes from that episode's sheet: It calls for "rainy, foggy, misty nightwork"; "Mulder inside grave talks to Scully regarding evidence," "Crime scene--Mulder reads clues. It looks like someone inside really wanted to get out [of the grave]. Begin Act 1," "Basement--Scully arrives on time," and "Medical Center--Happy New Year Everyone." Plus some sets include Mulder getting locked in a basement, Mulder getting in trouble, and one that says "Flares, Bullets and Zombies, oh my." "Rush" takes place partly at a fictional Adams High School. The three main characters are Tony, Chastity, and Max. Sheriff Harden is Max's dad. Here's what else the Haven's source wrote: "There is a dead cop in the beginning and Tony is being questioned about it. Chastity knows something but is hesitant to talk. She is about to share with M&S when Max shows up and tells her she shouldn't say anything unless they have a warrant. Max is suspected of paranormal behavior, at least by Mulder. It seems Max has had rising discipline and attendance problems at school, but his grades have gone way up. This is shown to us when Max aces his science midterm in one minute. His teacher, Mr. Babbit, thinks he cheated so he flunks Max. Big mistake. Mr. Babbit dies in a grisly accident in the cafeteria, after we see Max leaning on a nearby wall. Mr. B is pinned to the wall by a table and a chair flies through the air and lodges itself into the wall, smashing the teacher's head flat as a pancake." Mulder notices goo on the ground and suspects Max knows what it is and has psychokinetic powers. Max collapses in the parking lot after the attack. Here's a funny part from the script: "Max looks Scully up and down then says as he walks away: 'You must have been a Betty back in the day.' Scully turns to Mulder and says: 'A Betty?' Mulder: 'Back in the day.' Of course then Scully's phone rings." More upcoming episode news is that the "Irresistible" sequel rumors are probably true. Rumor has it that possibly in December (which would make it 7X08) Nick Chinlund will play Donnie Pfaster again in an episode to be directed by Rob Bowman, and I'd assume written by Chris Carter. From someone who apparently read the script: "Donnie is in jail for his previous crimes, but manages to escape with help from a ghost-like prison chaplain. As in 'Irresistible,' Donnie has a fetish for women's hair/shoes, and ends up going after Scully. In my opinion, this sequel is pulled off better than the 'Pusher' sequel." In the 2nd season 7 promo, the text written on the hand shown says "Kritschgau." Weird! And 7X07 could possibly have been renamed to "Beautiful." The "Now we can be together" line by Fowley in the promo shows her holding a hand--but if you look closely, it's an old wrinkled hand!

On to more general news. Apparently Mimi Rogers is voicing over Phillip Morris's new TV ads! X-Philes in Denmark, Finland, or Sweden: The movie started showing today on KIOSK, which I think is pay-per-view. Looks like someone has been keeping busy:

"He's a New Yorker living in Paris. He wrote a book, How to Make a Jewish Western, and now, at age 72, he's just sold his first novel, Coney to publishing director Tracy Carns at Penguin Putnam's Overlook Press. His name is Amran Duchovny, and he's David's dad. 'There's definitely a bit of a family resemblance,' Carns said of The X-Files star and his father. Overlook plans to make Duchovny's historical novel its lead fiction title for next fall. Set in Coney Island during the 1930s, Coney has a 'noir crime theme,' Carns said, and features 1950s and '60s city power-broker Robert Moses as the villain of the piece. The book is 'very literary,' she added."

The scream that you can hear when sending a Gillian Anderson SCREAMail (which I posted the link to 2 days ago) is actually her voice! BTW it looks like Wave 8 has been delayed to February (and probably the first episode DVD too), because of "market saturation." I guess I should mention that X Marks the Spot is out (or out soon). It's about the locations in Vancouver during seasons 1-5 and is written by the former location managers. The foreword is by Chris Carter. It actually looked very interesting. That's it for now. UPDATE: Info on a fourth promo from SpoilerVille: "I saw a coming attraction to The X-Files while I was watching the Yankees game and it showed a lot. It showed Scully getting attacked by bees, Mulder being restrained by Skinner and Fowley, someone or something walking on a road with a bright light coming from behind it, Scully pointing her gun at something, and people digging out the alien spaceship Scully found in the last episode."

There are three season 7 promos so far--the one shown during Harsh Realm, the one everybody is talking about, with Scully and a machete (and also the scene with her whacking something with a chair, so it's the same promo as the "November" one I referred to last update), and also apparently a variation on this one with Mulder yelling for Scully. The two latest ones are being shown on FX and Comedy Central, and possibly also Fox, but not often. The text is: "In Two Weeks...The Wait is Over." You can download the second promo here or here. There are pictures of it here. Thanks to Zurrix for giving me the links! The Haven can no longer post promos or screen captures because the inevitable happened...a "Cease and Desist" order from Fox. More is learned about the true nature of Inga Fossa, and her relationships with other characters in the Realm."

My pages were down for a little less than two days, and I'm sorry. But they're all back up now, and it was a GeoCities problem--no pages displaying the banners would show up. So instead of waiting for it to be fixed, I went through and removed all of the banners, since the popup ads won't show up anyway without them (the GeoBoxes will instead). Oh yeah, and spread the word about (and join) Spoiler Realm, the first and only Harsh Realm spoiler mailing list! I will put up a page and advertise it soon.

Oh dear, I've been spelling "Pinocchio" wrong all along (remember the dog tags from last episode?). So I've changed all instances to the correct spelling. Here's the relevant info (excerpts) taken from the recent Japanese Rob Bowman interview. Now, it's pretty weird. Sometimes it seems like Bowman doesn't know what he's talking about, and other times the translation is a little weird. He talks about the black cancer as if it's actually cancer, and that the aliens will reward those who make a vaccine for it. Yet he directed "One Son" in which the exact opposite (the aliens aren't supposed to know about the vaccine) was clearly stated. Plus he seems to have forgotten that Skinner has nanorobots in his bloodstream, and talks as if Skinner was being blackmailed--but so far this isn't true, and doesn't really seem plausible. But there is some interesting info on the future of this season.

"I will have little involvement in the next season of the show because I've been working on a feature film, Riptide, for Twentieth Century Fox since last January."

"Next season, we're going to find out Krycek has somehow blackmailed Skinner. He must know something about Skinner, that is, for Skinner to agree to go along with him [forgot about the nanorobots?]. Skinner promised Mulder and Scully that he'd never side against them again, but something happens between he and Krycek. Skinner definitely has a deep connection to CSM, too. He supposedly noticed what's behind these two from the very beginning when CSM sent Krycek as Mulder's new partner. I can't tell you what the resolution is, but Skinner is the man who plays the people underneath. If you need a certain thing [that] is very important in your life, he'll find that out and stop from getting it unless you do him a favor. He follows people, and people's needs. Somehow he's going to acquire the fact that the spaceship is perhaps speculation [?]. That's what Chris has told me."

"In season 7 we start focusing on Mulder's sister and family. What was the origin of alien arrival on Earth, and how that also impacted on Mulder's life. I think that most of the storylines are light or deep [?]. From my point of view, to do conspiracies and spaceships is automatically not the theme of the show. They are: Mulder's sister's abduction and his father's death in the bathroom in the house. Why his father was killed, what happened to his sister, and where is she now, are what Mulder wants to know. I think they're going to make a very powerful storyline about Mulder and his sister because that really is the theme of the foundation of the show."

"Orison" is Scully-centered. I've heard about 1-2 new season 7 promos. One was shown on Comedy Central, and another is being readied for November. Or, maybe they're both the same one. But the November one features Scully whacking someone or something with a chair in her "Ivory Coast garb." The ad shown on cable was a lot longer than the one shown during Harsh Realm. This is from someone who saw it: "Skinner was talking to Scully about Mulder or something and they kept showing Mulder strapped down to his hospital bed. Diana, Skinner, and Scully are seen hovering over his bed (though not all at the same time). Scully leans over his bed and says (almost crying) "I found the key to everything" or something very similar. The person [Scully] being attacked by bees was also in the trailer and so was the Spooked!Scully image. The artifact was also shown." Also a scene from the premiere involves Scully threatening Dr. Barnes with a machete! Yeah! In other news, Darren McGavin is recovering from the stroke that prevented him from being in "The Unnatural," and "he courageously vows to resume his role on The X-Files." About the PlayStation game, it is apparently "easier" than the PC version, and is out already. Fox Studios Australia opens on Nov. 8, and there will be a replica of Mulder's office there open to the public. Now look at this:

"Could the Fox TV network be okaying a project as a possible replacement for their possibly soon-to-depart The X-Files? Writer John Ridley (Three Kings) has signed a deal with the Greenblatt-Janollari Studio to develop potential comedy and drama projects for television. Among the projects he has in the works is a supernatural action pilot for the Fox network. Though the title of the pilot has yet to be revealed, Variety is reporting that the potential series premise is about 'a group of people that are in various stages of living and dead who go around dealing with paranormal activity in different parts of the world.' Current plans are for the pilot to have a female lead. Beyond that, Ridley himself provides a further idea of what we can expect, saying, 'I'm a big fan of the Hong Kong [style of moviemaking], which is visually exciting and fanciful. I want to try to transfer that feel to one-hour television.'" Sounds original. :-P

David Duchovny won't be restricted to playing basketball with Chris Owens, George Clooney, or his buddies from "Two Fathers" or Roche from "Paper Hearts":

Check this out--exclusive season 7 promo items available only to Fox employees. On to HR news. Sigh.... Ratings went even lower for "Leviathan," to a preliminary 5.02 million, 2.2/7 in adults 18-49. The show lost 2.48 million viewers, or 33% of its premiere audience, "which was considered a significant disappointment at the time." More disconcerting news, according to Dennis X, is that Alex "'Fallen Angel'/'Ghost in the Machine'" Gansa spent "about 9 minutes" on the staff of the show, then changed his mind and went to Dawson's Creek. DX also gave me another summary of "Kein Ausgang": "Hobbes and Pinocchio risk being caught in a perpetual battle loop after traveling through the virtual fabric of the game." Finally, it turns out that the simplest possibility was true: "Manus Domini" is in fact 1H04 and was written by John Shiban. "Three Percenters" is actually 1H05 and "Reunion" is 1H06.

"Leviathan" was cool. What it looks like is that the pilot, that episode, and "Inga Fossa" are a 3-episode arc setting up the show, then we'll get a string of standalones. The same preview for season 7 was shown. The Chris Carter chat was very interesting, but there are people suspicious of it. First of all, he wasn't typing, it was someone he was dictating his answers to. The spelling errors were the typist's ("Muldar") not Carter's. And second, he mentioned that they were just finishing the 3rd episode of Harsh Realm, which airs Friday. He was talking about postproduction not filming. 1H06 just finished filming. Anyway here's the info we got from the chat: 1013 has seriously considered doing cartoons. CC jokingly talked about doing a Saturday-morning XF cartoon! We will get more explanation on Skinner's nanorobots. He denied the Clooney rumor, saying he'd never heard it. So I think it's still a possibility if DD hasn't told CC yet or if he's trying to make it a surprise appearance. The bee domes could reappear, but he said that people are "sick of bees," meaning those aren't bees most likely in the premiere. 1013 is continuing to seriously consider a Lone Gunmen spinoff. Other than sci-fi/horror, CC would like to do a "romantic period piece." He described Harsh Realm as "colonial America" if it were circa 1995. And there will be more guest appearances by XF/MM actors on the show, one of which will be Brendan Beiser a.k.a. Pendrell!! He is considering putting our friend William B. Davis in the show too. And he explained 2 things about HR: If you die in Harsh Realm you become comatose in the real world. If you die in the real world you become a VC in Harsh Realm. And CC said that the show will address countries other than America later in the show, and said jokingly or seriously (I couldn't tell) that season 3 would take place in Australia. Did anyone notice that the home in the teaser of last night's episode was from "Home"? I didn't at first; what threw me off was that there was no fence in front of it in the episode. And the lack of the old Chevy. :-)
