3/20/99 *Updated*
UPDATE: I've been adding tidbits to today's news throughout the day (I have nothing better to do since I'm sick), and here's some news that would just ruin what I have below if I just changed it. DD's episode is now called "Shades of Grey" instead of what I said below. A very quick change of mind for CC&Co.
I got back Thursday but haven't been able to update until today. First off, I'd like to say that I just finished watching the last episode I hadn't seen before--I've seen 'em all now! I ordered a tape from someone on the newsgroup with all the episodes I hadn't seen yet. Anyway, the title is in for 6X20, and it's "Black Sun." The episode right before that, "B.R.M.," will partly take place in a casino. David Duchovny won't be in it because of the prep for episode 20. And here is the print ad for "Arcadia."
Anyway, I have some news on Strange World. It was canceled by ABC, with only 3 out of 13 episodes aired, but it looks like UPN or Fox may pick up the rest of the episodes, fortunately. And here's some info on Harsh Realm. The cast will not include Nick Lea or Chris Owens as previously reported, but Terry O'Quinn and Millennium's Rachel Hayward and Sarah Jane Redmond will be in it. The main character, Dexter Green, was taken out of the storyline by Chris Carter. Instead of a private detective he is now a military type named Thomas Hobbes, played by D.B. Sweeney. Scott Bairstow is a co-star. Other cast members include Max Martini and Samantha Mathis. The pilot is currently filming and started on March 17. Daniel Sackheim is directing, Joel Ransom is the director of photography, and Graeme Murray is the production designer, to mention a few familiar names. Incidentally, Flight 180, Glen Morgan & James Wong's movie, is also currently in production in Vancouver (which is where Harsh Realm is filming). No word on Rob Bowman's I Am Legend with Arnold Schwartzenegger. I suppose it was either dropped or someone else is directing since Bowman directed "Trevor" (which I assume is the correct spelling). And, David Duchovny's next movie, Return to Me, starts filming in Chicago this May.
I have a bunch of merchandise info too. First, there is another movie shirt that I wasn't aware of. I don't have a picture, but the front has the FTF logo at the left breast. The back has "The X-Files" in big text. Also, the "One Son" video in Australia wasn't released as File 13 or File 14. It was released as an "X-Files feature video." It comes with a card that is a piece of a puzzle that is made up of 9 cards. The second card will come with the retail release of the movie in Australia. Now, here is another movie poster. It has the poster D image, but notice that it has the bands who are on the soundtrack running down the right side. The dimensions are 12x19". Interesting. Also, the U.K. Foo Fighters "Walking After You" single (which also includes "Beacon Light" by Ween) was also released as a vinyl single--a 45. Here is the picture. And, there is a TV spot for the movie on video in Argentina. Here is a screen shot.
Mark Snow--as if he wasn't busy enough already--is composing the music for the interactive computer game Giants: Citizen Kabuto. Finally, That 70s Show will no longer be the lead-in to The X-Files starting March 28. Matt Groening's new series Futurama will be previewed for two weeks, then Family Guy will start its regular run on April 11 in the same Sunday 8:30-9 p.m. timeslot.

Quick update and I have to go. I'll be gone until Thursday night so don't expect an update until then or Friday. Unfortunately, Nick Lea did not get the lead role in Harsh Realm, Chris Carter's upcoming series. That honor goes to Scott Bairstow. Also, David Duchovny's episode starts filming later this week. It will take place in 1947 and involve Roswell, New Mexico, in addition to the Negro Leagues and an alien in love with baseball. Arthur Dales is returning for the episode, too. In other news, I found out that Steven Williams has an official site, so here it is. Speaking of official sites, the German movie site is offline, and the British movie site is now the official The Thin Red Line British Web site, interestingly enough. So the screensaver, desktop application, and British trailers are offline. Those items are linked to in the Media section which, incidentally, I just converted to the new design today, fixing the broken links and making it more organized. So check it out!

Finally I have time for an update. Well first off, the delay in the DVD release date is because of a technical problem with the commentary track, not the addition of any new features (which I am still hoping for, extra scenes hint hint). Anyway, William B. Davis was in a chat on Thursday, and here are three snippets that may provide some information on upcoming episodes:
"[Moderator] [felty] to [Producer]: Since you appeared to have killed your son and the syndicate is all but gone. Will more people be brought in to help your cause?
[William] Frankly I doubt it but I am not sure where they will take it from here. And Strughold is still out there somewhere.
"[Moderator] [Mulder] to [Producer]: Speaking of sex, would you like your character to be involved with someone or do you consider this a weakness for CSM?
[William] Well Mrs Mulder and I used to ask when we were going to get our bed scene but now it looks as if it might be with Diana Fowley but in truth I don't hold out a lot of hope
"[Moderator] [Bearleft] to [Producer]: Have you suggested or thought of suggesting a storyline to Chris Carter?
[William] I have tried several ideas that only served to tell me how hard it is to write for this series but I have one now that I will pitch to them in a couple of weeks"
OK, interesting. Anyway, season 6 starts on March 18 in Croatia. Speaking of season 6, the currently rumored title for episode 21, part 1 of 3, is "Lies." Sounds a little too simple for me, but whatever. And "Alpha" will take place in a shipyard. That must be where the werewolves are.
Finally, I am taking on the cause of TomBli on the newsgroup, who is trying to get all X-philes like us to e-mail strangeworld@bflg.com and simply put "WE WANT STRANGE WORLD!" in the body. This will help the old X-Files crew members in Vancouver, since Howard Gordon, who was a producer and writer for XF, rehired most of the crew for his new show, Strange World, which airs on ABC. I haven't even seen it, but I sent the message because those are the same crew members who provided people like me and you with spoilers for upcoming episodes. So support the crew and take a second to e-mail ABC so that the show doesn't go off the air. Thank you.

Got some cool stuff today. The X-Files movie was nominated for 4 categories in the Saturn Awards: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Sci-Fi Film, and Best Director; and Best Series on Network TV. Anyway, I remember back in maybe July seeing a rumor of a David Duchovny-directed episode to be called "The Empire." The rumor said that it wasn't going to be made. Now, the rumors came back and said that Duchovny's baseball episode will be called "The Empire." GF2020 on SpoilerVille, the one who originally discredited the rumor, said that it was still wrong. Well, just reporting the facts. It is still untitled. (Could it have been a previous title?)
Well I have a lot of merchandise news. First the gruesome. The DVD was delayed AGAIN!!!!!(%^*$^(&)#*%^@$#%^@! Now instead of April 20, it's May 4. Same features, but I'm hoping all these delays are for a big surprise x-tra. Now some cool news: Mark Snow's CD, which I talked about a while ago, will apparently be called Snow Files and may come out...in May. This will most likely be a compilation of his previous attempts at the show's theme song. Now I have some pictures of new items: a 3x3' plastic square promo poster for the movie (only about 1000 made), the Japanese version of the Making of book, and the U.K. version of the official movie magazine, which included the P1 promo card. And an item already listed now has a picture: the Australian video promo poster.

I actually liked "Arcadia," especially the voiceover at the end--kind of like an old episode. I wonder what special effects were causing the problem??! I have the title of episode 19: "B.R.M." That is the "Unusual Suspects" sequel, and it stands for "Biological Response Modifier." It is a biological agent used to treat cancer. We'll see how this ties into nanotechnology.... Anyway, I found an interesting piece of news: A triple murder in a Helsinki, Finland shooting club led police to suspect that the woman responsible acted after watching the X-Files episode "Blood." They spent hours watching tapes of old episodes to look for clues. Wow. And one more miscellaneous item: Chris Carter won the Vision Award for Artistic Achievement for "Post-Modern Prometheus." No SAGs this year.
OK merchandise info. The movie DVD will include all three trailers, as opposed to only A & C on the video. Now I will return to the topic of the Video CDs, which I touched on a while back. I found some reliable information on them. Out of the three pictures I have in the Merchandise section, two are doctored or of bootlegs. The other (the small one) looks real. The only real Video CDs are released in Malaysia and Hong Kong, and the release date for the X-Files movie there was November 30, 1998. The rest are all bootlegs. Now, here is a description of another set of two movie magnets:
"The first magnet (2.5x4") features the poster art from the X-Files movie. (Has a young boy holding up a skull in an underground cave, with black helicoptors flying overhead. Has the ghostly image of Mulder and Scully, along with the X-Files logo through center.) The second magnet (2x4") features a huge black 'X' surrounded by eerie blue light with beams blasting from behind it."
Guy Jackson has fortunately provided me with more information today. First, the promo LP I mentioned last update isn't actually from X-Files: First Files. I'll try to find out from where. And, in Japan, seasons 1-5 have already been released in box sets!! He explained to me the reasons behind the differences in international vs. domestic release of episodes on video: Fox has episodes in syndication (X2) and on cable (FX) here in the United States, which makes it more profitable to sell only the most popular episodes. Otherwise no one would watch reruns. Finally, File 13: "Dreamland" came out in France on February 24. The season 5 box set is expected there in 8-9 months.
Just a few more things. In Australia I guess File 13 is actually "One Son." It comes out on March 19 (date changed again). And, in the Russian Republic of Chechenia, an entire set of 9 X-Files stamps, two of which are from the movie, were released. Here is a picture. The movie stamps are the poster D one and the one with CSM and Strughold.

I have two awesome things to post. First I have the cover for the DVD, which is kind of disappointing because it's the same as the video's. This was originally sent to me by Jon Gibson of the Digital Bayou, but I got a better picture from The Digital Bits. Now, here's something really cool. Remember the German single X-Files: First Files with remixes of the theme? Well, I was waiting for some vinyl to come out and I got it. A promo LP, that's 12", was released with three of the songs. I'm pretty sure they're from the single since that's the only movie-related album with theme remixes on it. A very rare item. Anyway, "Dreamland" and "Dreamland II" are being rerun on March 14 and 21, and those are the precise dates on which no new episodes will air, so that works out. More season 6 rumors.... From a source on the newsgroup, Spender may appear in a dream sequence and subsequent episodes. Apparently all the answers about his death will be answered. Then again, this could be as reliable as that Nirvana rumor...or this one, which says that Nick Cave of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds will make an appearance on the show. Finally, here's something funny I thought I'd share. Ever imagine William B. Davis skiing? You won't have to after he skis in the Remedy Corporation Celebrity Winterfest, benefiting the Special Olympics March 5-6. He will be on a 10-member team.

3/2/99 *Updated*
Indeed, File 13 is "Dreamland" and File 14 is "One Son." Thanks to The French Thinker for that one. Speaking of foreign videos, the season 5 box set is slated for release...sometime. I have no idea when, most likely in a few months, but it's coming out in the U.K. and Europe. Anyway, here's a bit of news continuing the rumor that Mark Snow has another CD coming out:
"Mark Snow and movie soundtrack producer David Was are currently trying to compile and release a CD with the unheard and unused theme song attempts that were tried before settling on the familiar whistle and echo. From what Snow told me a while ago in an e-mail, he said to expect at least 5 tracks, possibly more. Who knows. Just a little bonus for the Phile with it all, I suppose."
Now, on to movie merchandise news!! Here's a really cool tidbit on Fox DVDs which applies to The X-Files:
"Just a brief note that in addition to all the nifty titles Fox has announced lately, they also will be upgrading the general features on their discs, including full-motion menus, cast/crew biographies and film notes. Best of all, you will (finally) be able to switch audio on the fly without always having to go to the menu." ...Also Fox will have some "unadvertised goodies" on their upcoming DVDs too.
AZXphile's site has the Mark Snow info above and the following rumor. But take this with a large spoonful of salt, because that site has some very wrong, outdated, and just dumb rumors on it. But I'm just the reporter here:
"As we all know, Fight The Future came out on video on 10/13...however, that is NOT THE ONLY version to be released! "Rumor" has it that a DIRECTOR'S CUT will be out soon...but usually all DIRECTOR'S CUT copies are delayed a bit, to let the original's popularity wane, then to hit them with something bigger and better to drive sales back up. Be on the lookout!!!"
I'm too lazy to do the conversion, so I'm going to say that the Singapore movie promo card is 15x10.5 cm. What is it? It's a card with the poster D graphic on it, and a contest on the back (already over). It was apparently organized by the theaters in Singapore. Now, two more small items. First, I got my first mailing from the McFarlane Toys Collector's Club (free), and no mention of X-Files figures or any exclusive items. So we can safely assume that none will be made or were made. Second, I can't believe it, but I had the chance to vote for GA, DD, and XF in the SAG Awards. My friend is a SAG member, and every member gets a ballot. He is indifferent about the show. Of course with my luck, what happens? He tells me after the voting ends. Great. My chance to influence 1/20000000000 of the votes is shot.
I got some more tidbits (added later). Corey Kaplan, production designer; Sandy Getzler and Lauren Polizzi, art directors; and Kevin Kavanaugh, assistant art director won the Society of Motion Picture and Television Art Directors' Excellence in Production Design Award. Also, Dean Haglund recently did a chat, in which he gave a few interesting bits of information. The Lone Gunmen figures may be coming out in September. Will these be made by McFarlane Toys? The series figures were canceled. He will start selling things on his Web site starting in 2 or 3 weeks, with an auction for charity in mid-April. Incidentally...great minds think alike!...Haglund thinks there should be an episode about ancient Egypt. That's what I've been thinking for a long time. And so has my friend Sang, whose birthday was yesterday!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! [Off-topic rant end.] Finally, the X-Files movie will be released on March 3 (tomorrow) for rent in Holland.

I keep getting new Australian news, so I keep posting it. I can't help but think I'm being unbalanced here, so if anyone knows some good European and Asian news sites (preferably in English), please let me know. I heard that File 14: "Dreamland" is already out in France (so probably in the rest of Europe too). Which means that File 13 is out there too. But that seems wrong. Maybe the numbers are backward. Anyway, the date for File 13: "One Son" was changed, apparently, to April 14 in Australia. Also, in September (or August maybe), the video will be released in the previously mentioned Special Edition with the extra scenes, and also in the theatrical version. So if both are released in both widescreen and pan & scan, that means there will be 4 videos in Australia! I also heard that there are two different versions of the Fox behind-the-scenes special hosted by Martin Landau, in addition to the U.S. version. The German version is dubbed but has extra scenes and a 10-minute interview with David Duchovny. The Australian version is the same except that it replaced Landau with someone else, there is footage of the U.S. movie premiere, the MSNBC premiere chat, and extra interviews that came after the chat.

Today I got some really cool stuff. But before I go on to that, let me get this over with: The extra scenes and alternate ending will never see the light of day. Yes, the DVD will only include the extra scenes that were on the video, nothing more will be edited back in. Arghhh! Well, on to better things: Episode 17 now has a name, "Trever." And an awesome piece of merchandise: a 22x38" promo poster for the X-Files movie on Divx. I know, DIVX SUCKS, but this is a rare item for just that reason. It's printed on thick card stock. Oh yeah, I've totally updated and revamped the Merchandise section including making it better organized, easier to read, and converting it to the new design! Check it out!! Anyway, I'm always interested in international merchandise info, so I've found some great sites to cover Australian stuff (check out the Links section), and that's where I found out that in addition to the ad for the retail video being on sale in September (which may happen in August) and the "One" by Filter music video, the Australian rental video also has other extras not on the videos in the U.S. I'm sure this applies to the other U.K. and European versions of the video too. It has an ad for File 13: "One Son," a promo for the Wave 2 videos (they're being sold in other countries too??! They get Files and Waves??!) and one for Files 1-12, which are soon to be taken off the market in Australia. It also has a promo for the soundtrack, which may or may not be the same as the soundtrack promo I have in the Media section. Now I'm sure that the retail version of the video in Australia won't have all these ads, but remember that the rental version does NOT have the U.S. video extras--extra scenes, interviews, and trailers. Those come out with the retail version, which is why it's being released there as a "Special Edition." Oh yeah, those Australian Video Ezy exclusive magnets? Not being sold anymore. Finally, Gillian Anderson was nominated for Best Actress in a Sci-Fi Movie in the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards. Go vote!

A few interesting things today. Michael Watkins is directing 6X21, the first part of the season finale. Also, 6X17 may air on the 18th of April instead of the 11th. Here's a funny spoiler for "Monday": Mulder's waterbed springs a leak, shorting out his alarm clock so he's late for a meeting! Mondays.... Anyway, more info on the movie DVD coming in.... It looks like Rob Bowman will be on the secondary commentary track, as originally reported, in addition to Chris Carter. Also the alternate ending will be on it, and maybe a behind-the-scenes featurette, which I guess would be the Mitch Pileggi-narrated one from the collector's set.

2/23/99
Just a few quick season 6 tidbits. First, episode 6X17 (the tornado man) is filming now, and it's directed by Rob Bowman, who is apparently not doing the Schwartzenegger movie. I'll try to find out more about that, and about the conflicting information that the episode was written by Vince Gilligan, but it's been previously confirmed that it was written by two freelancers. Anyway, I'm about 99% sure that all the current info on the Season 6 Spoilers page on the episodes after "Monday" is correct. Finally, here's a shocking rumor if it's true: Scully (highlight) will get raped in the season finale two-parter, and the culprit only gets two years in jail for it. Sounds kind of harsh and random, but it might not be true....
Now finally, I'm kind of getting pissed off at how quickly Fox is releasing videos of season 6 internationally. File 14: "Dreamland" has just been announced, seasons 1-4 are available in box sets, and season 6 hasn't even started airing yet in many foreign countries. We get a wave or two a year, while maybe half of the episodes of each season get released in separate "Files" or "Dossiers" internationally, sometimes hitting stores before they even air. Why can't we get them too??

About the DVD...I don't know if the extra footage (alternate ending, etc.) is being edited into it, but let's hope for the best! Also, TV episodes will start coming out on DVD this summer. And, this site was featured in xfiles.miningco.com again, and this time it's the Mythology section! I'm planning a minor update to it today, because I just found out that there were cut scenes in "Two Fathers" which actually reveal a lot! Check out the official site's episode guide, which was just updated, for the cut scenes. Anyway, I have some season 6 news. "Alpha," 6X16, is about killer dogs, and is being directed by Peter Markle ("Christmas Carol"). I'm pretty sure the schedule for episodes 6X16-6X18 are correct in the Season 6 Spoilers page (now featuring the new design!). And, Bill Roe won the American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Award for which he was nominated, for his work on "Drive." The other X-Files nominee was Joel Ransom for "Travelers."
Finally, I have two small items of merchandise info. First, there was a Japanese version of the movie press kit. And second, there may be a second version of the lunchboxes coming out.
And just a side note, I thought "Agua Mala" was great. I think it was pretty original, with the hurricane and sea monster, and I liked Arthur Dales being brought back. Good scary fun. Oh yeah, Scully looks great with wet hair. OK I'm done now.

It has been confirmed! The movie DVD comes out on April 20, and it will include a secondary audio track with Chris Carter. It will also have a booklet inside the case with notes. It probably won't be in anamorphic 16X9, but you never know. Sounds cool!

I have a load of news today, and every bit of it is international stuff. Season 6 starts in Hong Kong on March 23 at 8:30 p.m. on Peral. In Singapore, season 6 starts on March 3 on TCS 5. In Latin America, season 6 starts on March 10 on CanalFox Latino, and it starts on March 16 on DR 2 in Denmark. And in Australia, "Two Fathers" and "One Son" will be released as File 13: "One Son" on March 17, before the episodes even air. "The Beginning" will not be released on video in Australia. The movie video came out there on February 17, but only for rent. Amazingly, the video won't be available to buy until September 1999! The Australian version of the video has the "One" by Filter music video and an ad for the video release in September, in addition to the other extras. There are some promotional items for the video in Australia, including a poster, which looks like the U.K. box cover, a cap, a shirt, and a magnet, all of which are new and different than the posters, caps, shirts, and magnet currently listed in the Merchandise section. The magnet is exclusive to Video Ezy stores. There is also a print ad for the video release. There are four contests going on now for the Australian video release:
At Civic Video you can win one of 30 prizes consisting of:
Making of The X-Files Book
X-Files T-Shirt
Scully Figurine
All you have to do in 25 words or less is say what kind of insect attacks Scully in the movie, and why you wouldn't want it attacking you. Visit the Web site or go to your local Civic Video store for details. Competition closes March 17.
At Video Ezy visit the Web site and fill in the form to win one of five X-Files packs consisting of:
X-Files Movie CD
X-Files "Making of the Movie" book
X-Files Movie Cap
X-Files Movie T-Shirt
At Blockbuster if you pick up their new releases magazine, call the phone number listed there, and answer the question "In which city does the spectacular explosion of an office building occur?" you could win one of these prizes:
First prize - a Toshiba notebook valued at $3,000 and a copy of the movie
Runners-up prize x 10 - an autographed photo of Gillian Anderson, the movie soundtrack CD, a making of the X-Files movie book, and the set of five season one videos (video waves 1 and 2, minus video #4 which has already been released as "Tooms")
Consolation prize x 30 - a movie soundtrack CD
Competition closes March 17.
And, at Top Video you can win one of 2 limited-edition movie scripts signed by Chris Carter himself, a video, movie soundtrack, cap, and t-shirt. 30 runners-up will get the CD soundtrack, cap, and t-shirt. All you have to do is pick up their new releases magazine, fill in the form and send it in. Competition closes March 17.
Finally, this isn't news, but on February 5 The X-Files was shown at the Philips OpenAir Cinema, a special event. That's it for now.

I have info on a new episode, "Milagro" ("Miracle"), on the Season 6 Spoilers page. I don't know, but for now I'm going to say it's 6X18. I've also changed around some air dates for episodes. Anyway, I got a picture of a promo shirt for the movie, very old because it still uses the series font. It was probably a movie crew item or a promo that came out before the first trailer.

2/17/99
I have an even smaller update today. Just two things. First, "Arcadia" still isn't ready for February 28 so it will in fact go after both 6X14 and 6X15, on March 7. And, I got the official magazine finally, and was surprised that there were flashbacks in "Two Fathers" that were cut, and also scenes with Mulder's mom that never made it to the screen. Anyway, the official magazine is making exclusive merchandise, and next to the announcement is a collage of scenes from the movie. It looks like it might be a lithograph or something, but I'll wait until I get the catalog when it comes out. I'm betting there will be some movie merchandise in it. There is a survey in the issue, so fill it out and tell 'em you want stuff from the movie!

Just a small update today, and it involves the latest in X-Files movie merchandise...sweatshirts. They just had to be made sometime. There are two, with designs from the t-shirts, Together Alone and Buildings. They're made by Signature Group and are limited because the production of sweatshirts was requested by the X-Files Total Resource, a distributor, so the sweatshirts are exclusive to them. The logo is on the front. Also, here is the print ad for "Agua Mala."

Whew! What an episode. That was amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if CSM recruited an entirely new Syndicate. That would be interesting. Anyway, I messed up yesterday about David Duchovny's story credit--that's for the season finale; for his own episode he's getting a "Written and Directed by" credit. That's a good thing, because "Anasazi" and "Talitha Cumi" were amazing season finales, and Duchovny helped out with those stories too. Anyway, I got some upcoming episode news from SpoilerVille. Episode 16 (I think) is called "Alpha" and is written by Jeffrey Bell. 6X17 is written by two writers who aren't on the staff, one of whom is the props man for Millennium! It's a gory episode about someone who was affected by a tornado and can walk through walls. And I have one bit of merchandise news:
"2 great-looking X-Files 'Fight the Future' stickers. The first sticker (6x4.5") features an eerie blackened sky, with the ghostly images of Mulder and Scully looking upward with a glowing red 'X' cast over the image. Has the X-Files logo in center, and says 'Fight the Future' below it. The second sticker (4x5") features another creepy sky scene, with the ghostly image of Mulder resting his head on Scully's shoulder. Also has a glowing 'X' cast over image."

Can't wait till tonight!! I have a few small things to add today. First, from SpoilerVille, David Duchovny will get a "Story by" credit for his episode, like in "Anasazi" and "Talitha Cumi." Chris Carter probably helped him write it. 6X22 will be directed by Kim Manners. And, it seems that Jeremiah Smith will return for at least one of the finale episodes! Cool! "Arcadia" had reshoots and rewrites (in addition to the screwed-up effects) because of continuity. It was supposed to be Mulder and Scully's first X-File since reopening, but now that "Agua Mala" comes right after "One Son," it will have to be changed. Incidentally, "Arcadia" now will probably come in between "Agua Mala" and "Monday." And finally, "Triangle" will be rerun on Friday the 19th at 8 p.m. because Brimstone was canceled. Not to mention, in Chris Carter's AOL chat he revealed two interesting tidbits: First, he has a story in mind for a crossover involving Frank, Scully, and Emma. Second, some character actors from feature films may be making appearances on the show.
Anyway, here is a neat picture of the Japanese version of the novelization. That's it for now.

Don't forget to check yesterday's update, because I added some things to it after I posted it. Anyway, the Mythology section has been revised a lot and it has the new design. It covers everything up to "Two Fathers," so check it out! Anyway, I can't wait until "One Son," so until Sunday here is the print ad for the second part. Well The X-Files made the finals for being nominated for an Oscar, but didn't get any nominations. Oh well. I heard on SpoilerVille that WMM was going to be in 3 upcoming episodes, but don't hope for much. And, sadly, the finale is in fact a 3-parter with the first two in this season, not a 4-parter as originally anticipated. Also, the German video release date was the 9th, not the 11th as I said before. And McFarlane Toys has canceled the series figures because of disappointing movie figure sales. In directing news, Bryan Spicer will direct the Lone Gunmen episode. He has directed a bunch of weird stuff, including The Power Rangers Movie, among other things. Finally, here is a picture of a very old flyer from Fox's Sci-Fox magazine, which had a preview of the X-Files movie.

I have some catching up to do today. First, the cover of the DTS version of the LaserDisc is slightly different, so here it is. I also now have a better picture of the AC-3 version, at the same link as below. Also in merchandise news, there was a display stand for video stores that held the videos for buying. The bottom is a generic piece used for all movies, but the top is unique. Click here for a picture of the display case top. And here's something very interesting: A German import single from the soundtrack, the only single to have songs not on the actual album. They are techno remixes of the theme, and the title of the single is The X-Files: First Files (by Various, that is, various artists). Here's the case. Also, there may possibly be a two-cassette version of the audiobook, but the source I found this from wasn't too clear. And also for German fans: the video comes out the 11th. Finally, here is a banner promoting a lecture given by Ann Simmons, scientific adviser to the show and movie, where the movie was shown afterward.
"Two Fathers"!! WHAT A SHOW! That was incredible. And to think that finally David Duchovny got his wish--that Mulder be shown to be a basketball player. I remember him saying that maybe 3 years ago. Anyway, I seriously thought that First Elder was going to die! Well, the show never ceases to surprise me, but that's partly due to me boycotting spoilers from the 2-parter for the past 2 weeks--they got waaaay too detailed, and I found out some things that I wanted to keep secret until showtime.... Oh well. I guess Elder 2 is now Elder 1/First Elder again. George Murdock was probably treated to a larger and more important role in his last episode. "One Son" will probably be even better with the return of Covarrubias, Kersh, and Mulder's mom...and...Fowley. Anyway, there is a second print ad for the 2-parter. Also, in episode rumors, Gibson may return next season and there may be a flashback episode with Mulder and Fowley. The schedule is also getting changed around again: David Duchovny's baseball episode is now 6X20, and the "Unusual Suspects" sequel is 6X19. That means that either the season finale will be 3 parts in all (2 in this season), or there will be 23, not 22, episodes this season. Plus, the latest sequel rumors are that it will come out in summer 2000 or 2001. Frank Spotnitz, apparently, won't leave after this season since he's been named president of Ten Thirteen and has signed a new contract with Fox. And one more item (a different one than the previous sound nomination that I listed):
"The X-Files movie was among eleven films nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing by the Cinema Audio Society. Winners will be announced at the society's awards gala, March 6, at the Universal City Sheraton Hotel."

I found the official Japanese movie site, and a page for the movie in Sweden. The Japanese site is very interesting (even if you don't know Japanese) because it has an extra section that the other versions of the official site don't have--a summary of each of the main characters and plot points. It also has the Japanese versions of the trailers, a message board, a quiz, and more.
Anyway, here is some cool merchandise news. The X-Files came out on Video CD--a CD-ROM with an MPEG video which can be played on computers--in October 1998 (I'll try to find out when exactly). It's on two CDs, the first having the interviews, trailers, etc. I don't know how accurate this is (doubtful), but the pictures I obtained say that it is in Dolby Digital and DTS Digital, and THX certified. I don't know how valid these pictures are, but this one seems the most accurate. This is another (?) cover for the front that looks...doctored. And this is most likely the real back too. Speaking of Video CDs, I have a scan of the LaserDisc--it works for both the Dolby Digital and DTS versions. Also, the April 20 DVD release date has been confirmed by Fox.
And finally, the Cher episode may have been in talks but never happened.

I have a lot of news today. Producer Paul "The 'Ffft' Guy" Rabwin said recently that they are working hard to create a new look for the show that wouldn't destroy its integrity--still all the smoke and moodiness. I don't know how recent that quote is, it could be from around the season premiere. But I think the look could use a little tweaking anyway. Also, I mentioned a while ago that the video for the movie comes out March 29 in U.K. I didn't mention, however, that it has been available to rent since February 1. In fact, Blockbuster has a contest for U.K. residents going on (it looks like a real tough one):
This is for UK and Northern Ireland fans ONLY.
To coincide with the release of the X-Files movie, Blockbuster Video has a competition running to win:
1 Signed Film Script
1 X-Files Poster
1 T-Shirt
Files 1-12 Videos of the Show
There will also be nine runner-up prizes consisting of:
1 T-Shirt
1 Poster
The Question:
"What is Mulder's first name?"
a) Fox
b) Squirrel
c) Agent

Here is the cover of the U.K. video box. Almost exactly the same as the Australian promo card graphics. I have heard from other sources, however, that the box is red. Maybe this means that there is a red box inside the cover? Anyone? Like I mentioned before, the tape is clear!
Anyway, in season 6 news (rumors, it seems), Cher may be signing up for two episodes as an alien who falls in love with Mulder, not knowing her secret. Great. Instead of playing herself in "Post-Modern Prometheus," she plays an alien. Other sources have said that she will only be in one episode, and not as an alien. "Arcadia" is airing March 7, not the 14th. I thought previously that the 7th was a rerun. And, here are three pictures from "Agua Mala": one two three! If your browser asks for a username and password, they're both "guest." The previous few things are from SpoilerVille. And thanks to ALFORNOS on the newsgroup, we now know that Chris Carter was nominated by the Directors Guild for "Triangle." I really think he deserves that award. Finally, our dear friend First Elder seems to have had a name change...to Elder 2, according to the "Two Fathers" press kit. Elder 2 is now Elder 1 (not First Elder as before). Hmm.

Just a really quick update. First, David Duchovny won the TV Guide Awards for Best Actor in a Drama. Unfortunately, Gillian Anderson and the show didn't win. But in his speech, he said that the award was half hers. How sweet! Anyway, when the X-Files movie comes out on video in U.K., there will be a different cover (which I should get a picture of soon), and the video itself will be clear, just like a cassette tape. There will be pan-and-scan and widescreen versions available.
