The Boston Story

Sandy's Part:

Michaela didn't have the faintest idea where she should start looking for Sully or even if she would be able to find him.

She stepped outside and took a big breath of air. Thinking of all the luxuries she had at her fingertips in Boston she couldn't help thinking of the fresh air in Colorado Springs.

The smell of the wilderness and pine trees. No, it couldn't be possible, she didn't miss Colorado Springs did she?

"Ma'am", as she was brought out of thought.

"I'm sorry, Harrison, what is it you said?"

"I was asking if you needed the carriage, Ma'am."

"Thank you Harrison, but can you get a horse ready for me? I will be back in a few minutes."

Michaela ran inside to change into proper and more comfortable riding gear.

As Sully sat looking over the bank of the River Charles, he thought of the first time Michaela was brought by the Indians with her request to help look for Brian. How beautiful she looked even in her fear.

"After all that we have been through, how can she doubt my love and my feelings for her??" As Sully closed his eyes he thought,

"I don't even recognize her as the same person here in Boston.

She says she loves me...is she having doubts, does she really love me.

Can she really want all the things that Boston can offer her...instead of the true unmaterialistic things back home along with people that really, truly care for things with their heart and soul...."

As Michaela was riding, she had a feeling come over her. No, he couldn't be there could he? Would he really remember?

She thought of the strong bonds that they had together and even the "visions" that they had shared. Didn't she find him when he lay hurt and everyone thought he was dead?

She rode faster and faster, suddenly stopping when she saw him sitting there, eyes closed but with a distressed look on his face.

"Sully?"

He looked up in surprise. His heart leaped when he saw Michaela running towards him.

"Sully, I have the most wonderful news."

"Michaela, we have to talk"....

Their heads suddenly turned as they heard a twig snap but the stranger was gone....

Jean's Part:

Michaela could see the unhappiness in Sully's eyes.

She could hear it in the tone of his voice but worst of all she could feel it in her own heart and knew he was feeling it too.

He wasn't happy here and for that matter...neither was she!

Michaela had been confused when she received the telegram from her sister Rebecca.

Her mother had not been ill but simply passed away in her sleep one night.

Overcome with shock and sorrow, she felt the need to get back to her roots. The words on the telegram kept coming back in her mind over and over..

.'So sorry to have to tell you this Michaela, but Mother has just passed away.'

She had to go home. But she hadn't given much thought to the wants and needs of her own family.

Maybe it had been a selfish act on her part to move the family to Boston, but it was something that she felt was right at that time and now she could see it had been a mistake.

Colleen and Andrew were giving up everything to be with them in Boston and now with the news that her own daughter was with child, she dreaded the thought of the baby being born here.

Not here. Not like this.

Katie had been conceived and delivered with such love and joy in Colorado Springs and that was where Colleen's baby should be born as well. Not here in Boston.

'No,' she said to herself. 'I want my grandchild born in Colorado Springs, our home'.

She no longer felt the need to stay in Boston. Her job here was done.

Her sisters had everything under control and since Rebecca had moved her family into the mansion, she was no longer needed. It was Rebecca's home now.

It wasn't the same without her parents and would never be the same again.

She wanted to go home now and could hardly wait to share her enthusiasm with this man who stood before her.

The time had come to go home and once again be that loving family they had formed.

Michaela's excitement got the better of her and had caused her to lose her balance as she tried to dismount from the horse.

"Sully!," she cried and with that almost landed face first on the grassy riverbank.

Sully had seen it coming and eagerly ran to catch his falling wife.

"Whoa Michaela! What's got you so fired up?" he gasped with a grin that replaced the distress of earlier.

As he gently set her safely to the ground..

"Oh Sully, I'm so sorry! I know now that I wasn't thinking clearly. Sully, I want to go home.

I want us to go home, All of us. Back to Colorado Springs. Sully it's where we belong. It's where we became a family and now with the baby coming and Colleen and Andrew giving up their practice and.........."

She was almost out of breath but still rambled on. Sully could barely understand a word she had said. But he did manage to hear 'The Baby'.

"Hold on Michaela! Slow down! Baby? What baby?" he asked as he grabbed her shoulders to try to calm her down.

"Why our baby. Well not yours and mine. Colleen and Andrew's baby. Our first grandchild Sully. Colleen and Andrew are having a baby!"

"A baby? Colleen? Our Colleen?" Sully asked.

"Yes Sully. Our Colleen. Isn't it wonderful!" she cried

Suddenly Sully couldn't resist and he picked his wife up swinging her around and around. Together they danced in joy and kissed each other's smiling faces.

"A grandbaby. That's the best news I've had in weeks. I gonna be a grandpa!"

There was no mistaking Sully's happiness. Tears of joy were building in his eyes.

"Sully let's go home. I don't want the baby to be born here. They gave up their dreams of a partnership at the Chateau to be here with us. I don't want that. I want to go home Sully! All of us! Please?!"

She didn't need to ask him twice. He hated Boston and all it stood for.

He had been very patient with Michaela but his patience had run out for Boston. This was like a dream. Home! Back to the land and the life he loved. Back to the place where he could be a man again.

Freedom! This was all her ever wanted and was so overwhelmed to see that his wife had finally come to her senses.

"Let's go tell the kids," Sully said, the twinkle finally returning to those steely blue eyes.

"Yes, let's," Michaela replied as she embraced her husband and the future.

They were, as one, again.

So engulfed in their own revelations, they were unaware of the rider who by now had heard it all and had decided it was time to head back to the Quinn mansion.

"Do you think the children will be happy?" she asked, staring up at him with an impish grin on her face.

Sully, with his own brand of teasing finally answered, "You even need to ask that?"

And after one last embrace and final kiss, they mounted their horses an set off home.

They were going back home. Not to the stuffy, prim and proper walls of the city but home to the freedom, the openness of the country.

The West could be harsh at times. It was not without its own challenges.

But they had managed to overcome many hard times and felt they were better people for doing so.

This was where they first met, fell in love and became the family they are today.

This was, 'Their Home'.

Vicki's Part:

Six months later, Michaela, Sully, and Colleen and Andrew were making final preparations for their move back home.

They needed to go now, or wait until Colleen had her baby in Boston. Since they all wanted the newest member of the family to be born in Colorado Springs, they would be leaving in the morning.

There was some risk in allowing Colleen to travel at this point in her pregnancy, but since she had been quite healthy throughout, the family was confident that she and the baby would tolerate the trip well. After all, she was a doctor who would be travelling with two other doctors, as well as a man who had some experience in assisting with childbirth. Colleen was very happy to be going home.

Jean's Part:

"Could you please tell me how much is a one way ticket to Colorado?" inquired the excited stranger.

"My final destination? Colorado Springs."

Replying "Thank you," to the ticket agent and not wanting anyone to see the grin of delight or hear the private outspoken thoughts, the stranger sighed.

"I'll follow you anywhere. I'm coming.....my love".
