Escaflowne Episode 10
(FOX episodes 8 and 9)
Summary: The group arrives in Freid and has an audience with Prince Chid, Millerna's nephew. A captured Dragonslayer (Migel) is readied for interrogation, but the monk coming to do the interrogation, Plactu, has his body stolen by Zongi, a doppelganger. Meanwhile, Hitomi tries to teach Van to use the Force. Chid comes in and asks to have Hitomi read his fortune. At this point, it is announced that Plactu has arrived. Plactu/Zongi goes down to the dungeon to "interrogate" Migel, and makes it so that Migel says that Allen and his friends are the enemies. Migel attempts to escape, but Zongi, annoyed at him, kills him. The group is then thrown into the dungeon, where Hitomi realizes that there's some sort of connection between Chid and Allen (cough).

Since this isn't the beginning of the FOX episode, the title card was cut. Well, actually, it was moved to the beginning of the FOX episode.

When Chid is disappointed that Allen fell in battle and talks about how there's no such thing as a perfect knight, a transparent image of Scherezade is put in the window he's looking out of.

Originally, Allen remembers Marlene's ring as soon as he wakes up. Now, they make him remember it when he sees the ring on Chid (which, quite frankly, is a more logical place to put that shot, anyway).

More commercials! These are added after Van explains to Chid about what Allen had to do to get to Freid to warn him about Zaibach's attack.

After Van calls Hitomi out to teach him "The Force", the whole scene with Zongi taking Plactu's body was here, but it was moved to the end of the episode. And they left both Zongi and Plactu buck nekkid, too! Oh, the humanity! They really didn't need to end the episode with a shot of Plactu's butt.

When Hitomi uses her abilities to find Merle, the BGM track "Charm" was replaced with "White Dove". I'm just annoyed that the signature "pendant music" is always gone.

After the afrementioned moved Zongi/Plactu scene, the episode ends. No ifs or ands, but lots of butts.

Predictions for Episode 11
-They've still got the rest of episode 10 to get through, with Migel's murder at the hands of Zongi. What they'll do with this, I don't know.
-Oh yeah. If you don't wanna be spoiled about a major event, don't read the rest of this line. Okay, you've been warned. In episode 11, Hitomi, um, dies. Rather blatantly dies. Millerna takes off Hitomi's shirt, and she and Van take turns giving her CPR. But since it's not a bloody death, maybe it's okay.
-And how about Allen holding Chid hostage with Merle's nail file? Child abuse!

Like I said before, every episode from now on originally had no recap whatsoever, however, one was added to the beginning of this one, using the familiar tarot cards in space backdrop.

A shot of Freid is added to the beginning, with a supertitle proclaiming "The Kingdom of Freid". For some reason, adding titles like that just looks incredibly tacky.

The scene from the previous FOX episode of Van learning to "use the Force" is shown again at the beginning of this episode, although rather abbreviated.

After Hitomi finds Merle, Chid comes down, applauding her, asking how she did that. Merle butts in and says that Hitomi is a scary, creepy person. Hitomi explains that she can see the future. Chid is amazed, saying that even Plactu can't predict the future, and asks if Hitomi will tell him his future. Just then, a guard comes in announcing that Plactu has arrived.

When Migel says that Allen and Van are conspiring against everyone, it cuts to a shot of Van from about 11:58 (this shot was contained in the cut above). Originally here was a picture of Millerna opening the window for Allen.

After Chid yells that Migel is lying, a commercial break is added.

There goes "Dance of Curse" again -_-. It plays when Van comes flying in to fight Migel. Originally, the "Vision of Escaflowne" theme was playing here.

A pan up on Migel hiding, showing that his leg is bleeding.

Zongi chokes Migel to death. In the cut, it just looks like he knocked him out.

The shot of Zongi standing over Migel's body is played backwards. It was originally a pan up, now it's a pan down.

Zongi looks out of the alley to see that Escaflowne has been captured.
