Sleeping Diamonds
Open the door to the snow filled day, Eyes wide open with wonder at the beauty of the flakes Which fall like angels from the heavens Showering the mortal world with lovely gifts of magnificence. The frigid breeze stings your cheeks And flakes capture your eyelashes and hold them prisoner Yet still you cannot turn your face away from what your eyes behold. The world is completely silent except for the clacking Of ice encrusted barren branches mating in the wind. No people venture out on the streets this day. It's as if you are the only human left in the big big world. Glancing across the blanketed yards and meadows The diamonds lay sleeping in the dim gray light, But soon they will find the sun and gleam brightly Millions of them glowing incandescently In the morning sun. ã Stormi Sunday, October 18, 1998 |
