Summary

It "looks" good, like a nicely wrapped package, but inside is a lump of coal!

Analysis

I guess all of you have seen that oh-so hip, trendy, and provocative casting special by now. Gee, it does beg a question/comment....or 20! Like who were they fooling with that casting contest which is about as phony as a $3 dollar bill? Anyone with access to the Internet already knew who the cast of both shows were months in advance.

On top of that, they gave out this cheesy flashing 1-800-???-???? number that only appeared for 2 seconds; but if the phone lines were jammed, MTV/BMP invited viewers to come on-line and select the cast. Hello! Wouldn't anyone firmly established "on-line" already know the identities of the cast? So why the run-around? Who do they think there fooling? Unless there're banking on the millions of misinformed drones without computers. Either that, or the folks over at BMP are bigger idiots than I thought!

And since I'm on the subject......is there some special rule in the B-M casting department that states every black finalist must under-go the racial awareness examination? What were the first words we heard come out of that quack's mouth a pond conducting the interview with Teck? Were they--"What are your hobbies? What are your goals in life? What do you do for fun?" Hell no! "How will being the only (gasp) black affect your persona? Will it make you angry enough to shout at the white girls?"

Give me a freakin break! I sometimes feel that the black characters are cast for the sole purpose of being "black"! As if B-M has some PC status quo to uphold otherwise they'd be labeled "racist". Another example, when Clay Newbill and some casting dweeb were grilling Ayanna on how she'd cope with the possibility of being the only black person on the ship; treating it as though it's a freakin handicap! As if, there're hoping she'll crack under the pressure and go postal on her fellow travelmates......"Casting For Conflict" indeed!

Speaking of which. Colin had one of the casting dweebs penned in the corner, grilling him on whether B-M cast for the sole purpose of conflict. To which the dweeb spat out some lame lie that "he" couldn't even keep a straight face through! The casting stooges contradicted themselves several times during the show. One noticeable highlight was when this one casting lady summarized one of the finalist by saying, "They'd make a good instigator" But I thought BMP doesn't "Cast For Conflict" A statement which as about as hallow as Clinton's, "I did not sleep with that woman" speech! Did Mary Ellis and her witless drones actually thought they had put one over on us with that--"Oh, he (David) isn't so interesting to us anymore since he's in jail." Ya right, you're just pissed because the long arm of the law got to him before you did! And now you're trying to brush it off as....."No Big Deal" Get real!

And it's also apparent that BMP's trying to make-up for 7 years of discriminatory casting by composing a minority/majority Road Rules cast. But alas, it looks like Real World will always be The Real World! And it's obvious that somewhere in the casting rule book there's a--"Must have blonde girl" clause because it seems like it's a firmly embedded casting procedure (Especially since they chose that ditzy Amaya who looks and acts like the poster girl for Aron Spelling Entertainment! That other blonde (Katarzyna) from the projects was far more interesting than poor-little-rich-girl, Torri)

And frankly, Real World has had the same standard racial/gender make-up for the past 4 seasons now. I'm not kidding, the similarities are startling: Usually there're 2 to 3 white guys, 1 black guy, 2 to 3 white girls (Rest assure that one of them is a blonde!), and 1 ethnic girl thrown in for good measure. I for one am sick of these standardize racial/gender make-ups that play-out every season....I'm game for something new!

Sorry for dragging the race issue through the dirt, but since "BMP" brought it up, I might as well clear-up a few things!

That's all I'm going to say for now. So until next week....remember, B-M's always looking for real people to exploit!
