[Assault Rigs Codes]
Assault Rigs Codes

Psygnosis sends its first weak game to the market!

I don't even know where to begin with this game. I can't really find the game on this disc. It's just roaming around the same polygon corridors, searching for the same polygon crystals, and shooting the same polygon bullets at the same polygon enemies. It just doesn't have any sort of value.
First off, the graphics are some of the plainest polygons I have seen to date. When the game first begins, one thinks that the tank looks fairly decent. However, after seeing two or three levels of the SAME, EXACT design, with no variation even in color, I was dismayed. The enemies look terrible. They consist of little walking polygons and little floating polygons. Even the bullets look horrible; they are just little triangles. The special weapons don't look too great either. The only graphical redeeming factor for this game is the fire. It looks pretty cool.
Assault Rigs sounds nice. The sound effects are nothing to speak of, but the music is decent. That tribal chanting music sounds pretty cool. You can download a sample right here.
This game takes a lot from CyberSled, which is not a good thing. Tanks gliding around shooting each other is not an original concept. I think Psygnosis could have come up with better.
Although the controls are responsive, they possess the same annoyance factor as those of CyberSled. You can only spin with the directionals. The L and R buttons are used to glide back and forth as in CyberSled, making it a bit tough to get around. Shooting the enemies is no problem, except for the fact that it is almost impossible to shoot enemies who are sitting on certain levels of the room.
Assault Rigs was just not fun to play. The levels seemed pointless, and the enemies didn't change as the game progressed, they just took a few more hits to kill. The special weapons were not worth getting, as they looked suspiciously like the regular weapons and didn't do much more damage. Don't bother with this one, it isn't much fun at all.

And now for the grades...
