Battle Arena Toshinden Codes
Polygon Power!!

Battle Arena Toshinden, the flagship title for the Sony Playstation, is also one of the best first generation releases for the new system. It combines Street Fighter-like gameplay with flawless, texture-mapped polygon graphics, which always makes for a good fighting experience.
The graphics in Battle Arena Toshinden are flawless, with almost no room for improvement. The beautiful characters, backgrounds, and moves are a real visual treat. However, all of these onscreen polygons sometimes cause slight traces of slowdown, especially during some of the Desperation moves, but this rarely impedes the action. Also, great death and pain animations make up for the lack of gore.
The sounds are outrageous. Great symphonic tunes accompany the action, and the sound effects are superb. The voices are remarkably clear, with the exception of Gaia's.
This is a really original disc in some respects, but it plays too much like Street Fighter. The whole 3-D concept really shines, but the play mechanics are much too similar to those of past games.
This game plays really well, with tight, responsive controls and easy to learn moves. However, its similarity to Street Fighter leaves fighting fans yearning for deeper controls.
This game is fun to play at first, but it has nothing really new in terms of gameplay. The graphics make it hold its own for a while, but eventually, it just falls short.
And now for the grades....
- Graphics-18/20
- Sound-5/5
- Originality/Innovation-3/5
- Play Control/Gameplay-32/40
- FunFactor-26/30
- Total-84/100
